The Ultimate, Decade-End Lana Del Rey Ranking (NOW: VIDEOGRAPHY, Vote p.13)

Recommended Posts

The put me in a movie music video, kill kill and Brite lites are missing also meet me in the pale moonlight. I really am a big fan of those and would like to see them

Probably because they're from 2008 and as far as I know there's no Meet Me In the Pale Moonlight video

Shades of Cool and Ride are the only videos that deserve a 10 and you know it. Freak and White Mustang don't deserve more than a 5 given that they are just repurposed footage and MAC, Venice Bitch and that whole messy triple video don't even deserve a 1 and that's that on that. The rest dangles between 6 and 9.  :creep:

This thread made me reflect a lot. Turns out things I am not interested in:

-Lana made videos (Carmen, Lolita etc)

-Videos where nothing happens (Honeymoon, MAC, Venice Bitch, That boring trio we got etc)

-Videos where she repurposed material (Freak, White Mustang)

So basically I don't care for 90% of her videos looool

took a while but finally got time to finish my rankings!!

tropico got 10s except for bel air which got an 8. i love it, but it has less going on and is a little less visually interesting than BE + G&M. ride obviously a total 10. i realised i actually really really love the video for summertime sadness and for love! i didn't pay much attention to either one before, but i love the stories and the trippy visuals of love. the blue velvet video is so bizarre hahah.

of all the homemade videos, i think DMD is the worst one and kinda outta luck is the best one. and video games obviously, but that doesn't really count.

Let's do this quickly...

Here it is,

the Ultimate, Decade-End Lana Del Rey Videography Ranking

giphy.gif

Let's begin with the very bottom of the list

40. Mariners apartment complex (Chuck Grant, 2018)

The release of the music video for the lead single from Norman Fucking Rockwell! was a very dark moment for Lana fans. Director Chuck E. "Cheese" Grant promised it was footage from a "bigger project", which was true to a certain extent.

39. Venice Bitch (Chuck Grant, 2018)

One week after "Mariners" came "Venice Bitch", the very same video except it has cars down a road for 5 minutes straight.

38. Bartender (Chuck Grant, 2019)

Filmed alongside the "Mariners apartment complex", "Venice Bitch" and "Happiness is a butterfly" music videos, Bartender was perhaps the most polarizing LDR video in years. What many people couldn't see is the slight social statement: people having fun and doing whatever while the world is literally ending.

37. Don't Call Me Angel (Hannah Lux Davis, 2019)

Del Rey's collaboration with Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus was chosen as the worst Lana Del Rey song of the decade. Its music video didn't meet the same fate, kinda.

PARADIXO's commentary: It wasn't that bad.

36. Happiness is a butterfly (Chuck Grant, 2019)

Same theme from "Bartender": a girl having a meltdown over his lover, her friends trying to help her while there's an alien invasion in the background.

35. White Mustang (Rich Lee, 2018)

Beyond the fact that it's terribly edited, most of us are salty it was originally intended for "The Next Best American Record".

34. Norman fucking Rockwell (Chuck Grant, 2019)

Part 1 of the "Norman fucking Rockwell"/"Bartender"/"Happiness is a butterfly" short film.

PARADIXO's commentary; How is this the best part of the film? :rip: she's literally doing nothing.

33. Lolita (Lana Del Rey, 2010)

32. Million Dollar Man (Lana Del Rey, 2010)

31. Diet Mountain Dew (Lana Del Rey, 2010)

National Anthem definitely deserved a top 10 spot over Body Electric, overall it's a pretty good list. Ride deserves the no. 1 spot but SOC is still 2nd no doubt.
