Absolute chaos in Chile

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if it's being talked that much on international media, because God knows that our national media is being 100% controlled. I thought it was important to share it so international countries can be aware of the magnitude of the situation.

Due to my english not being that good, I searched everywhere for a quick summary of what's happening on Chile right now and I found this Twitter thread that basically explains the main problemas and concerns.

There's also some really good articles dome by The Guardian about the situation

18 October: Mass fare-dodging expands into city-wide protest

19 October: President declares state of emergency, violence escalates

21 October: Protest rage despite president's retreat over subway fare increase

The amount of violence that has been registered on camera is outstanding, it feels like Pinochet's dictatorship all over again, I'll link a few clips in case you want to check the factual reality that is not being presented on Chilean media and probably overseas too.

my friend who lives in valparaíso went into the city today to peacefully protest and said military was everywhere and they even dropped tear gas bombs, and so they had to leave since their eyes hurt. such a shame, seeing governments all over the world now abusing their power. it's not new but it definitely wasnt this bad  :crossed:

That's so sad to heat, they're literally using rear gas for everything no

Even small cities with little to no threat are being strike with those gases, close to people's homes, close to children, animals and hospitals, truly unnacaptable

Well I'm going to march on the streets right now, wish me luck :hooker:

Be safe hermano! Everything is so wild right now, and it's definitely not ending soon. It was time for the people to rise. It makes me SO FUCKING MAD how the media and the government is controlling everything and making everyone seem like fools. Even other countries are coming here to film fake news, it's fucking infuriating. I just with the best for everyone in this country  :defeated:

Thanks to all of you! I'm just grateful that the situation in my city is not bad at all, yesterday I marched from 8:30 to 19:00 and it was surprisingly pacific, I've never seen so much people united at my city, thousands of thousands all united, it was so moving.

We didn't had disturbance from the police either, except around 11:00 when we encountered a water tank and we all stood up in front of it with our arms raised completely pacific and they threw us teargas. Sadly after the march around 100 individuals robbed our local shopping mall, some were detained by the same people marching.

I'm so shocked that yesterday was so pacific in my city, due to a march done at Sunday being way more violent, even though people were calm and not threatening that didn't stopped our government to declare martial law on my city :toofunny:

All news stories in England are overshadowed by flipping Brexit, the situation is getting coverage but certainly not enough.

Stay safe our Chilean brothers and sisters; all respect and power to you.

Puerto Rico in July teas.. when the island overthrew the governor, it set off a chain reaction in Latin America [not saying the PR issue was a direct influence but nonetheless interesting]. These protests are truly needed
