It does seem like every 2 or 3 years there is a month where a virus is overhyped and talked about for weeks then nobody mentions it again, swine flu, bird flu, ebola, this probably been a couple more.

they are hyped up, but for good reason honestly. the reason they don’t become as serious as killing millions off is down to how safe we’ve made containing an outbreak. quite honestly, Ebola could have wiped out a large proportion of the human race ala the Black Plague and the Spanish flu. Viruses like these have the potential to do that, which is why they’re widely reported and people are made aware quickly.

just another scare tactic in the media, probably trying to divert attention from another story they're trying to cover up

Okay but Ebola had a very high death rate and the country that it most recently broke out in basically had no health care or facilities to deal with sanitization and prevent the spread so um, just saying, it's not really comparable and we really should not refer to ebola as "overhyped".

But what IS overhyped is the fact that everyone in countries other than China is dead scared they'll get the coronovirus when it hasn't even reached over 20 cases anywhere else as it's been a very manageable and steady incline. For Wuhan though, we will have to see.

I agree with you, but I would just like to add that we need to take in mind incubation periods (2 weeks, give it or take). So far, the virus has been thought to be contagious during this asymptomatic span of time, so a sick person abroad could have already given it to someone else, that could have given it to someone else, and so on. I think the ratio is about 2-3, meaning every infection has the potential to infect an average of other 2-3 people.

Anyways, I would also like to add that even if the actual numbers are higher than what is reported, we have to keep in mind a bunch of people could have gotten this and will never know simply because their illness wasn't that serious and/or suspicious. I think most cases abroad are very mild, so that's a good sign. Maybe it's getting weaker already and the worst has passed.

Yes thank you!

I wouldn't say it's getting weaker, but the recovery rate is about the same if not higher than death rates now. But number of cases is still growing exponentially.

The global number of confirmed coronavirus cases has now reached 45,169

The virus outbreak has now killed 1,115 people worldwide.

71,331 cases have been confirmed now, with 1,775 deaths. So crazy how fast this has gone down :(

Yeah, its only been a month.

Its going to get worse for those poor defenceless people :(

No cure has been discovered yet and they say that it may take over 8 to 12 months to find a cure !

By that time, many more people will die.

May God bless them all and embrace all in heaven. R.I.P.

I am nust kinda thankful that I finish my travels just days before the outbreak and have no plans for any recent trips...
It seems that traveling now is not a good idea

it's a really interesting thing, though. sorry i'm just jumping in here, BUT I do have some interesting things to talk about on the subject of coronavirus... Get your tinfoil hats on bois we're going on a weird trip

I've heard plenty of reports stating that China is rounding up Muslim people, fewer Christians, but mostly Muslims in the number of almost a million and putting them into concentration camps. With this said, those reports have said they're doing sterilization, testing torture techniques, and also human medical experiments. So I'm wondering if they've been testing this coronavirus on some of these people, maybe testing the disease and testing an antidote or a vaccine for the ones who can afford it who are Han Chinese.

This makes me wonder if coronavirus was originally a controlled disease, used for testing in future biowarfare, or if it was an experiment gone wrong, maybe someone infected escaped? Who knows...

Another thing, now this is true and not speculation, a friend of mine is working in California as a clean up crew manager and he's told me there's at least several cases the CDC is refusing to make public here in the US, they say its to try to not cause panic but I think it would do more harm than good. They wear heavy duty hazmat suits and he said they went as far as telling them to change their hazmat suits so they aren't as frightening to the public. He said, fuck no, he's not risking the lives of his workers for the CDC's  public image

Um. The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is near(ish)  the Mongolia / Kazakhstan border up in the northwest of the country. Wuhan is in the EES (east east south) of the country. So about 2,000 miles apart. Those issues in China are... complicated to say the least, but making the jump from wanting to wipe out all the Muslims in China to wanting a controlled epidemic to wipe out any non-Han Chinese is pretty big and incredibly s unfounded. As maxthehitman said, new and widespread diseases happen all the time. Fairly recently there was the mad cow disease. During / after WW1 there was the "Spanish" flu. SARs, Ebola, etc. It's only with SARs and Ebola (and now the corona virus) that you get racialised conspiracy theories and fears. The corona virus is just one of those things that's really unfortunate. It only started getting noticed en masse around Chinese New Year, and by then it was already too late to contain as well has it could have been. This is just part of living in the world as humans that are vulnerable to disease. You're never going to have a cure on hand for everything.
