Actually, her category was filled with great ones: Jack White, Florence + Machine, The Black Keys & Arctic Monkeys. It makes the victory sweeter I guess.

Yeah, that's true. But in a sense, this category doesn't really 'belong' here--these artists are of such different caliber than Carly, Taylor, One Direction, or Nicki. :/ Honestly, I feel like an MTV "European Alternative Music Awards" show would be much more interesting, and would put these worthy competitors in categories that would better reflect the level of their music.

I completely agree with you. These artists make music because they're passionate and care deeply for what they produce. Bieber, 1D... they are just cash machine for their label, they can't write or compose a song to save their live. All these listed above are entertainers, they're not artist to me, they don't have artistic soul.
