Gq Magazine (Interview And Photos)

I don't know that I would call this anti-feminist, per se. You can be a Playboy model and be a feminist. You can work in the porn industry and be a feminist. If she genuinely enjoyed this shoot and liked being nude and owning her body, good for her! I just wish she'd of said something like that.. idk

I don't think she is antifeminist, just the whole shoot is a bit. The boob (or no boob) grabbing picture.. it's basically exploiting her. Classy or not, it's still unsettling.

I do want to point out... did you guys see in the interview where she said something like "People won't be listening to my music next year" eep! do you think that's a tell that she'll be done w/ music soon/take a long break or maybe she just has low self esteem lol

I took it as just acknowledging the hype can't last... but you're right, there have been other comments about leaving music!

(Personally, I intend to listen to LDRAKA:LG, and some of the other surf noir unreleased, for the rest of my life G9dVt.gif)

I'm going to need all the nay-sayers to take SEVERAL seats right away. I hardly think Lana was pushed into this. Also, did anyone else think that the nudity was a physical manifestation of her being "naked" and "vulnerable" in the interview? She was "stripped" and "bared all." I loved every second of it. Check your personal reasons for being afraid of nudity at the door. Thank you.

I am relieved and find it refreshing to see people questioning aspects of Lana’s decisions rather than the obligatory OMG she is SO FLAWLESS. And PrettyBaby, i appreciate you bringing up gender a lot! There’s nothing inherently immoral, tasteless, or trashy about nudity, but sheesh, when it’s filtered through the androcentric lens of GQ then we’re just retreading the same old problematic terrain. I don’t know why anyone would want to take part in that magazine’s bullshit. That said, i thought this was a great interview.

No. It's fucking GQ magazine.

I think we were expressing our criticisms respectfully. And rather than checking my irrational fears at the door, I prefer to hold them up, look them over, and say "how the hell did I end up with THIS?" Kind of in the spirit of naked and vulnerable, you might say. ;)

Really dislike this shoot. Something about it doesn't sit well with me.

For some reason the GQ cover itself (and some of the other pics) screams "Exploitation!" to me in a way that makes me uncomfortable.

No. It's fucking GQ magazine.

It's very subjective, but I agree there's a bit of an unsettling vibe to this shoot, especially the cover, that I don't get from the "Kill Kill" outtakes, for example. For me, maybe it's because I don't think the cover photo is that flattering even though it's revealing? I don't really blame Lana. It's probably difficult to ascertain how photos will come off while you're being shot.

But I do find it problematic on GQ's behalf. I couldn't agree more with Monicker on that point. @TrailerParkDoll (forum user MissDaytona I believe?) posted this link on Twitter, which I think really says it all.

I don't think she is antifeminist, just the whole shoot is a bit. The boob (or no boob) grabbing picture.. it's basically exploiting her. Classy or not, it's still unsettling.

Now I'm probably going to trash whatever feminist cred I might've garnered with this snarky, juvenile, and objectifying observation: I don't understand the fuss about the "boob-grabbing" picture in particular-- she has no boobs to grab! :troll:

(Aw, don't hate me. I'm sure I wasn't the first to think it.)

Just playing devil's advocate here, mostly. People are saying the media is changing Lana or whatever- maybe it's true, maybe it's not. I don't really like the cover photo either. But I do really like a lot of the photos, and in all honesty- yes this is GQ, as moniker said. And she's woman of the year, no less. What did you guys expect? I guess a price to pay for one of her best interviews is that you HAVE to stare at her naked body while reading it- OH THE HORROR, OH THE SHAME.

Like I said before, hearing her lyrics "you can be the boss" "I like it when you treat me mean- you turn my mood from black to blue" and then seeing the picture where the guy looks like he is about to snap her neck and to top it all off she's naked on the cover of a men's magazine.. that's lame and doesn't send a good message.

The truth of Del Rey’s story is this: born Elizabeth Grant in New York City 26 years ago, she was raised upstate in Lake Placid.

As several of us have discussed on Twitter, why does Lana continue to lie about her age? And why do journalists mindlessly repeat it? (Although I suspect this interviewer was on to her.) Her copyright filings (among other credible sources) indicate that she is 27.

She lies about her age because Interscope wanted to put out the illusion that she was 25 when she got her record deal..26 sounded too old, I guess.. too close to 30 lol. She's had that deal w/ Interscope for a lot longer than people think

Nothing wrong with a nude photoshoot, Lana's very headstrong so I doubt she was pushed in to it or anything. Besides, if I had her body? Hell fucking yes would I show it off. Regardless of that though, what a fantastic interview! She made me well up a little. I just love her whole persona - I relate to a lot of the things she says.
