John Lennon

Recommended Posts

I just elbowed often the awe is that people are referred to as legends and then new generations just accept that and carry on that labelling without actually finding out for themselves why they may be a "legend". No offence :D

I think he is completely over rated and glorified though

I am here to further uproot this thread and initiate a riot. Smash Beatles/Lennon/McCartney idolatry and burn the temple to the ground (with no offense, of course, to those who do genuinely like them).

Most overrated music and band in the universe--given the way that they are widely viewed as the be-all and end-all of popular music, they can't possibly not be overrated. The cult-like mentality that deifies both the band and its two principal members has been damaging to the music world for close to fifty years. Not their fault, of course.

They have a few good songs though  :omfg2: (though mostly not even the Lennon ones  :uh: )

Peace, d00d. I <3 NY

Legend? Why? Fan? Name 5 of his songs

I need only one tbh. Imagine. Dont get me wrong I am not a hard core Beatles/Lenon fan but some songs are just like an anthem. To me ImagineRedemptions Songs (from Bob Marley who actually I am a huge fan), Knocking  Knocking on Heavens Door (I prefer the Guns version) are 3 examples of such type of songs. They speak more than words IMO and they are relevant until today.

Imagine is relevant and very relevant today at this exact moment. Just my opinion anyway.

I really don't like him or The Beatles. I appreciate what they've done for music, they've influenced most artist that I love, but I don't like him. He advocated peace even though he was a violent man and preached about not needing possessions while he lived in luxury . I've listen to the discographies of him, the beatles & the members and found nothing that made me believe for one second they were even a good band even though I wanted to. But honestly, I'm sure most people can say the same kind of shit about artist I listen to (Courtney Love was a drug addict, Judy Garland was bat shit crazy, addicted to pills, never showed up on time & was a complete narcissist) so it's whatever. If he's made a great impact on you, that's great, but honestly, most people only half-ass know the words to imagine, other than that they're like 'omg he's John Lennon like come on!' & can't really say anything else about him.

Speaking of...it seems Lana had the GNR version in mind for her cover (which, as i write that, i realize now that it's pretty obvious she would have).

Man, your Malcolm McDowell milk sipping gif is making me uneasy, the way it freezes for a bit and looks like a still but then it just comes to life.

OK, so I can't quite abuse this as an opportunity to post a Tool video as per usual, so I'll do the next best thing and post A Perfect Circle's dark take on "Imagine":

On another interesting Beatles-related Tool sidenote, Maynard & former Tool bassist Paul D'Amour covered McCartney's "Silly Love Songs" in a side project called the Replicants. Monicker will appreciate that it begins with the sound of Maynard pissing:
