Tropico named 2nd biggest flop of 2013 by VH1

Good to see some free extra advertising for Tropico!

Giving negative criticism is so much easier than positive. Who says something like this is just jealous... :bye2:  :icant2:  :byeh8rs2:

(Makes me thinking of Jeremy Clarkson who slaughtered years ago the Ford Escort on TopGear UK and it was the best sold car in Britain that year)

I'm surprised it's taken that seriously.  I don't think many people outside of Lana's fans cared about this.  :magikarp:

Then again, I'm sure some lowly staff writer had to come up with a list because that's her job.  The media machine churns and nothing really gets accomplished.

Certainly not with Britney Jean around :lolno:

How did they not even pick up on the multitude of valid criticisms for Tropico? But instead saw it as a Lady Gaga ripoff with the intent of holding people's attention? ffs she is overwrought and pretentious at times but you know she genuinely thought this video was art and not a way to keep people hyped.

I completely agree with this. I think that she had even somewhat planned the Paradise EP around Tropico. A lot of it is about her experiences, I didn't see any similarities to Gaga. I have nothing against Gaga, but not every single female artist has the intent to be like her, we all know what Lana thinks of her anyway.

Tropico suffered due to delays and when there's delays, people assume it's to build hype.  Especially at the major label level.  Seems like it just got over-hyped, but Lana had to keep mentioning it to remind us that it was coming.  Seemed out of her control and she suffered for it.

Tropico would have been great as a giant teaser to Paradise.  I don't expect a video for everything off UV, but I think it'd be really cool to have a short film featuring a few songs off of it.  It would build excitement and also satisfy any artistic indulgence.  Also the visual element to any music I think always sways people positively that would be on the fence about a song.  But that won't happen,  too little time I think.

I don't know how you measure flop? But being on a list with Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga puts her with good company. My guess is that when you are big enough to be on a flop list you have made it. So she has made it.

This is really no big deal. Actors sometimes make movies that don't live up to the expectations of others and it's no big deal.

I like Tropico but my preference would have been for her to release three videos for the songs instead but I love Tropic none the less. Considering that it is a 27 minute short film or extended video these things are not very commercial anyways. I just hope she didn't lose too much money on this. lol.

I will never understand these dragging lists. Make a list of what were this year's biggest successes, but why would you even go on and make efforts to compile such lists? It's really pointless. And the use of the word "flop" has been out of hand for a while, it's absolutely ridiculous that everyone use it on every single thing that was a worldwide succes... The worst is when they even use it on that ones.

i can't even take this seriously, seeing as the #1 "flop" was artpop, which numbers can easily prove was successful. i don't think lana intended to create some incredibly successful and world famous piece -- i think she succeeded in what she was trying to do. tropico is clearly not supposed to be a film that everybody will enjoy, you either love it or you don't. also, i personally liked the songs she used. just because they aren't the newest, doesn't mean they don't fit the film. i think all her fans can at least appreciate what she was trying to do with tropico even if they didn't particularly enjoy watching it (i did, though). just like lana's music, tropico is a piece of art that will not be enjoyed by everybody, but should be respected by everybody. tropico was by no means a "flop." lana's happy with it and so am i.
