Orchestral / Classical Music

Recommended Posts

i've always had a minor thing for horror movie scores, but lately i've been really into sweeping / dramatic orchestral stuff in general (i.e the ride / tropico / gatsby stuff) but i'm kind of running low on songs / composers to listen to and need recommendations! it really helps me study too

this is the kind of stuff i like (in order of beauty):

any good suggestions? any orchestral / classical stuff is fine with me i'm open to all types, the stuff above is just to give a general idea of what i tend to listen to

:heart:

I know the score for The Virgin Suicides is more Electronic but it's really worth a listen. I managed to snag a physical copy of it not so long ago ;0;

this is probably the most beautiful score i've heard from any film:

I'm not sure if it's your cup of tea (music recs are tricky!), but Kow Ohtani's Shadow of the Colossus OST is really gorgeous:

It has also a lot of epic songs on it, like this one:

I mostly chose the slower and more athmospheric ones.

There are lots of dramatic orchestral composers one could suggest (e.g., Atterberg, Mahler, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich) but the trick is getting something not too intrusive (so you can study) but good enough to stay awake? That was sort of how I interpreted your request, so these examples struck me as possibly appropriate. Some are famous; some off the beaten track.

Phil Glass does movie scores:

There's Karl Jenkins, known for the "Diamonds" commercial,

but he writes a lot of other stuff (this is just a random selection):

Alla Pavlova writes symphonies cinematically but pastorally. This was just a random selection off of Youtube from stuff available. It's like the one or two CDs I have of her:

Maybe Myaskovsky (whom I'm more into). This written just after WWI so he's a little more PTSD than usual:
