Vogue Intervew : Will Lana Quit Music?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is the right section, but i found a part of the VA interview:

"Her vulnerable, studio enhanced sound is the perfect accompaniment to her detached gaze and backcombed hair, but it looks like Lana Del Rey will soon be swapping music for movies.

It's a savvy move for a girl who has withstood criticism of being a triumph of style over substance.

She told Vogue Australia: 'When I was starting, I had a vision of being a writer for film and that’s what I am doing now. I’m so happy.

'Hopefully I will branch into film work and stay there. That will be my happy place. I’d like to stay in one place for a long time.'

It's a decision fuelled by her having nothing else to put out there. 'I said everything I needed to say before I wrote this record. I don’t even talk that much. God, talking in interviews is the most I’ve talked in years.'

The 26-year old, real name Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, revealed her change of direction during an indepth interview with the glossy magazine.

The New York native can be seen gracing the cover of the prestigious title, as well as featuring in an exclusive photoshoot inside.

In one shot, she is seen sitting on a leather stool, holding her knees and flexing her bare feet.

She looks wistfully to the left, and has a model of a bluebird resting on her pointed finger.

Her casual look, a cable knit jumper with some silk shorts, is typical of the 1960's style she favours.

The move to the silver screen is an unsurprising decision from the self-styled 'gangster Nancy Sinatra', who loves nothing more than painting herself as some sort of cultural zeitgeist.

Her breathy, downtempo songs are cultural Marmite, earning her as many fans as critics, who are especially disdainful of her live performances.

Fashion icon: Lana was spotted walking through Hollywood in a more relaxed ensemble

But, she claims stage fright is the reason for her sometimes awkward live gigs.

'I love to take care of the songs – that’s my natural place – then, when I get on stage that’s not my element,' She said.

'Sometimes I kneel down because I am trembling or touch the audience because I don’t know what else to do. But the nice thing about the kids is that they feel bad for me, and pass me soft toys!'

For many, Lana's appeal is her glamorous trailerpark style, and the general air of mystery she immerses herself in.

However, at night, she claims she is immersed solely in fur.

'I have to sleep alone every night so I have this old mink from Scotland,' she said, perhaps trying to sneakily dismiss rumours she has been enjoying dalliances with Axl Rose and Marilyn Manson.

Obviously, talking to Vogue meant Lana had plenty of opportunity to talk about fashion and what it means to her.

And surprisingly, she isn't as interested in her image as the general public.

'I never expressed myself through fashion. I loved flowers in my hair, I loved guys who wore leather, but I didn’t get creative… From the age of about seven I had really specific tastes that never changed. I loved wearing white, old fur and gold.

'It’s funny because now people in fashion kind of came to my rescue when other people said they didn’t like the record but that was unexpected for me because I was never really that.

'I wear lots of white and blue shirts from Brooks Brothers and shorts when I’m in LA, and I wear this white cotton sundress every day when no-one’s looking at me. I think it’s Topshop.'

Hm, she said that she wasn't going to make another record before, but then there's now the Paradise Edition of BTD. But if she is quitting music, i'd rather that she did that instead of writing crappy songs.

She's expressed interest in moving into film scoring and things like that before, so i'm not surprised by this.

She may do more music, i just don't think the era of BTD we have atm will be something that gets repeated tbh. She'll probably just be more low key about it. BTD will be her one big moment to shine i think.

Can we complain though really? we have 300000 songs by her, she pretty much has 10 albums anyway lol.

Either way, i'd still like to see her AKA album released at some point properly, i don't care if it has singles/videos or not.

Quitting hardly a year into her mainstream career is a really stupid move, though.

Even if we don't forget and freak out about a comeback in five years or something, no one else will care. Here and now, she's all the rage.

But she doesn't care about being the rage or her current career. She's always said her music career was a luxury for her, she isn't interested in being big or a superstar or whatever else comes with oversaturing the market for the next few years by doing what everyone else does.

She's a creative person, and as we see with endless leaks, she's always doing something musically, so i'm sure we'll get things in various forms over the years.
