Randall's Island, NYC @ Governors Ball - June 7th, 2015

Well, fuck. On top of only liking Lana out of these people, plus I can't pull that much money out of my ass... I'm not even allowed to go to a fucking festival b/c it's a "drugfest" and no good. Not worth it regardless, but it's v annoying

Marina, mø, lana and so many other great artists :defeated:

Maybe I'll go, but my lana concert is on the 3rd so i don't think i'll be able to make it to NYC in time

edit: pfft. They all say sold out or "N/A"

I'm SO excited! I'm definitely going to go! This lineup is definitely a dream come true, only wish FKA twigs and Chet Faker was on here too.

I hope none of my favorite acts are going to be overlapped during the lineup. I'm excited to see: Lana Del Rey, St. Vincent, Marina and the Diamonds, Florence + the Machine, MØ, Björk, Future Islands, The Black Keys, Flume, SBTRKT, Charli XCX, but I'm going to check out so many of these acts I know nothing about. I want to see as much music as I can!

This would be my first music festival, especially outdoors. Give me lots of tips please, I want to be prepared. Also tips for getting super front row.

Anyone else going?

I just bought my 3-day VIP ticket! :excited:  I'm really only interested in Lana, Drake, Marina and a couple others but that's good enough because it's not like you can see every artist at these festivals. I'm so fucking happy because she doesn't have an NYC tour date yet, so I finally get to see her!

So they finally announced the times everyone is playing

and it figures

Lana is top billed on one of two main stages at around 915pm

and at the exact same time on the other main stage (which aren't close to each other) are the Black Keys

Somewhat might mean the crowd is split in two but that is to be expected in a festival.

There is always Weird Al around 6pm

Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Totally unique. a mixture of Brian WIlson Roy Orbison, Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Elton & Bernie. Born to Die/Paradise is comparable to Elton's Captain Fantastic. All the records need to be listened whole. Waiting for a box set vinyl of all 400 songs not on any lp

The Keys always thought highly of themselves prior and very vocally had put Lana down

Until sheepishly they were outwitted by Lana who let her talent prove she was not what they were putting down, and won them over

Of course, they are male, so the Rolling Stone/ Rock critic mentality immediately took to them as alt-rock heroes, sexist as they (and the Keys) were/are

Their latest album could have been done by Lana, as it is quite different in many ways from their earlier albums.

I know whom I will be seeing.

theoretically if they play a longer set and both actual start at the same time, one could maybe see the very end of the other, but it is one helleva long walk especially if one is upfront at Lana's show.

(Not sure of the layout, but I got VIP ticket only going Sunday, a smiliar thing is on a different day with Florence in conflict with someone else).

I was hoping her set would be earlier on in the day, but whatever I'm just happy I'll get to see her. I have a friend who's convinced she'll be able to see both Lana and the Black Keys even though I keep telling her they're playing at the same time...

If the crowd ends up being split that's good news for me because I'm hoping it'll be a laidback atmosphere and not a crazy mob. I have a VIP wristband too.

So Lana's set is going to be 1 hour and 15 minutes long in comparison to The Black Keys whose set is 1 hour and 45 minutes long.

I wish it was a little longer, but I'm going to try and enjoy every second of it. One of my friends had VIP tickets last year and she says it's definitely worth the money because the area is so much nicer and less crazy and you can go right up to the stage, so I'm super glad I got the VIP wristband now.
