JAY Z's new streaming service TIDAL

Recommended Posts

A new high-fidelity streaming music service helmed by Jay Z launches Monday. TIDAL was acquired by the rapper last month as part of a $56 million dollar deal with the Scandinavian platform Aspiro.

Full details of the service will be announced during a press conference on Monday. However, according to TIDAL’s website, it’s “the first music streaming service that combines the best High Fidelity sound quality, High Definition music videos and expertly Curated Editorial.”

There are two paid subscription options: $19.99 a month for high-fidelity audio, and $9.99 for standard quality audio. TIDAL can be streamed on the web, and downloaded for iOS and Android devices.

Several artists have already thrown their support behind TIDAL, changing their Twitter icons to light blue and tweeting the hashtag #TIDALForAll. Among them, Kanye West and Jack White’s Third Man Records:

Been following this for a minute, now it's come to fruition. It is rumoured Jay has exclusivity on streaming Taylor Swift's catalogue and it's likely huge albums like R8, So Help Me God and a solo JAY Z / Beyonce/JAY Z double disc will get exclusive stream time before they are released elsewhere. This could really be a force to be reckoned with. jay the goat.

i have a feeling this is gonna flop because it seems to be some hybrid between spotify and vevo. i don't know if someone would pay 10 dollars for this especially since a lot of people who pay for streaming services probably already have a spotify premium account..

the thing that interests me the most is the editorial they will be pairing with it. seems kinda like what he's done with life + times. and the caliber of his friends makes this far more exciting as you just know there will be an exclusive release. People speculating a new hov album will be on it

ok this trailer makes me more excited than i was at first. seems as if it's more intended for future releases that may be exclusively released through tidal. The concept isn't bad but i still think that it's a little expensive and i also don't like the whole streaming concept i prefer a buy itunes concept but however tidal seems interesting with this exclusive content strategy. Now i'm excited for the album, i just hope it's more than a single track from every artist and will feature some interesting and cool collabs  ...  :creep:

Didn't Neil Young already try the hi-fi market with not much success, except PonoMusic is basically a hi-fi version of iTunes where this is more like a paid hi-fi version of Spotify?

the gp doesn't really care about lossless music most people are fine with the itunes m4a or 320 mp3 files and the people who care probably want to buy their music on discs whatever.. i can't imagine tidal being a really ~innovative concept that works out
