About:

Blackbear is the stage name of LA-based producer and singer-songwriter Mat Musto, popularly known for co-writing Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend,” in 2012. Some of his first collaborations were with the likes of Pharrell Williams, MGK, and Childish Gambino. Later, Musto reinvented himself—he coined the name Blackbear, and started leaning more towards rapping and an R&B-oriented style.

His first mixtape Sex included collaborations with his peers James Blake, Maejor Ali, and “Boyfriend” co-writer Mike Posner. His EP The Afterglow followed in 2014.

In 2015, Blackbear released “idfc,” as the lead single from his debut album Deadroses. It increased his fan following and revenue, earning him millions of playback streams and a spot on Billboard’s Uncharted List of Undiscovered and Upcoming Artists. The second single, “90210,” included a feature from G-Eazy—Blackbear made an appearance in his 2014 track, “Remember You.”

Blackbear released his sophomore record Help during the same year, which was a look into good and the bad lifestyle he has lived as a successful artist in the industry.

In 2016, Drink Bleach EP dropped as a “4/20” offering. He was joined, once again, by Mike Posner on “Obvious.”

In early 2017, the newly formed duo between blackbear and frequent collaborator Mike Posner, “mansionz” released “Rich White Girls”. This would go on to be one of the leading singles off their self-titled debut album, released on March 24, 2017. Mansionz would peak at #67 on the Billboard Top 200 List.

His next album digital druglord was released on April 20th, 2017, which featured the lead single “do re mi”, blackbears biggest song since “idfc”. digital druglord peaked at #14 on the Billboard Top 200 List, and “do re mi” peaked at #87 on the Hot 100 List. In between the release of “Mansionz” and “digital druglord”, blackbear released the Salt EP.

On November 27th, 2017 blackbear released his highly anticipated fourth album, cybersex. Cybersex has been marked as a “genre-bending” album, blending in multiple styles of blackbear. cybersex included mostly features, from artists like Machine Gun Kelly, Rick Ross, T-Pain, and many more.

Wow, how did I not know Cashmere Noose came out.

Anyway, Drink Bleach and Help are fantastic. I'm surprised he's not more well known since a lot of his songs are well past 1 million plays each on Soundcloud.

He has a massive back catalog as well...I tried to get all of his older stuff when Drink Bleach came out, but it was so spread out everywhere and there were a lot of dead links so I gave up
