Best American Record

Recommended Posts

[Verse 1]

My baby used to dance underneath my architecture

To the Houses of the Holy

Smoking on them cigarettes

My baby used to dance underneath my architecture

He was cool as heck

He was cool as heck

[Pre-Chorus]

But you were so obsessed with writing the next best American record

But there was nothing left by the time we got to bed

Baby that’s a shame

You were so obsessed with writing the next best American record

You did it all for fame

You did it all for fame

[Chorus 1]

You did it all for fame

Tell me how it treats you now

You did it all for fame

How does that taste coming out

You did it all for fame

Baby, how's life treating you now

It's over

[Verse 2]

My baby used to dance underneath my architecture

He was seventies in spirit; nineties in his frame of mind

My baby used to dance underneath my architecture

We lost track of space

We lost track of time

[Pre-Chorus]

But you were so obsessed with writing the next best American record

But there was nothing left by the time we got to bed

Baby that’s a shame

You were so obsessed with writing the next best American record

You did it all for fame

You did it all for fame

(You know what I'm talking about)

[Chorus 2]

You did it all for fame

Tell me how it treats you now

You did it all for fame

How does that taste coming out

Now that you lost the game

Honey, how's life treating you now

That it's over

Baby, how you feeling now

That I told you

We're through

[bridge]

It's you

All the roads lead to you

Everything I want and do

All the things that I say

It's true

All the roads lead to you

Like the 405 I drive through

Everynight and everyday

Ah, ah

I see you for who you really are

Why the thousands of girls

Love the way Bill plays guitar

Ah, ah

[Chorus]

You did it all for fame

Tell me how it treats you now

You did it all for fame

How does that taste coming out

You did it all for fame

Honey, how you feeling now

That it's over

Baby, how's life treating you now

That I told you

[Outro]

Honey, how is it feeling now?

(Honey, how's it feeling?, Honey, how's it feeling?)

I told you

(Honey, how's it feeling?, Honey, how's it feeling?)

I told you

Sounds a lot like the melody of 'Hangin' Around' which I adore.

Also I'm nearly positive the "you know what I'm talking 'bout" line is from the same vocal take used in 'Because of You' :xcry:

Also, originally I wasn't going to allow a lyric thread for this yet, but I'm going to allow it since at this point the leak is pretty much everywhere & would be pointless to restrict a lyric thread.

Still, I am not allowing any download links as well as links directing to where the song can be found on the forum. Please do not request the song to be sent to you either.

Sounds a bit like Fine China considering the vocals and production. Her voice sounds great and I like the tropical vibes during the chorus. However I don't think it's really very intriguing. Better than Love but still not as exciting as her previous material.

Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!

well, as Elle in post 12 is allowing this

just reading the lyrics (have not searched out nor will I listen to anything until officially released) just reading the lyrics

it is very Honeymoon the album continuation like.

Is Lana self-referencing herself like I believe Honeymoon was an epic battle between Elizabeth and Lana? (so once again, there is no boy here, it is a metaphor)

it also reads like she is referencing herself from Paradise's Ride (Just one pretty song lyric) & American (I hear the Byrds on The Summer Breeze juxtaposed with "405" and rethinking the whole thing, which is

what "Love" is referencing in that there is now more important things to talk about than just "going for the gold(record)

...

makes me long for Lana to do a cover of the BeeGees "Words" (and words are all I have, to take your heart away © Barry, Robin, Maurice Gibb

I made a post that said I shall wait until hearing the whole album a couple of dozen times, but more and more I think the chapters in the book of

Elizabeth Grant are being moved forward to something that perhaps wasn't what the original intent was, but due to the times, is quite appropriate and up to date

and quite deep and literate indeed. (very Neil Tenant whose best work can be interpreted many ways and on many levels too)(no matter what beat is behind the words.

or (sorry to once again reference) Leonard Cohen- "Is this what you wanted"  (note the double or triple entendre with this specific reference)

more to follow as the weeks go by on that thought.

Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Totally unique. a mixture of Brian WIlson Roy Orbison, Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Elton & Bernie. Born to Die/Paradise is comparable to Elton's Captain Fantastic. All the records need to be listened whole. Waiting for a box set vinyl of all 400 songs not on any lp

It kind of reminds me of the ways west coast is surprising, like the way she integrates something slower and more introspective with something a lot faster and more dramatic. It makes me really emotional like I didn't get that way for Love
