Apparently there weren't even fire alarms in the buildings and only one fire escape. Knowing your either going to get burned to death or die by smoke inhalation. Or even worse "taking control" and deciding to jumping out of the window God those poor people trapped in there must've been so afraid. Macintosh Manhattan 6,505 Posted June 15, 2017 have u ever tried renting a place in the uk though No (At my age and the wages I'm on I can't even afford to) but I've read that some not but not all private landlords do bypass and straight up ignore regulations. I also know that those that are affected by 'them' type of Landlords are usually on some sort of welfare such as housing benefits etc. I've noticed in my area that a lot of the places that a few of my mates (who have private landlords) live in should be gutted. However they're too afraid to speak out mainly beacuse their worried they will be kicked out of house or flat. I had a mate who put down a £440 deposit and had to pay over £200 rent per month for a shitty bedsit. She couldn't even drink the tap water beacuse it was cloudy and the separate bathroom next door to her had rising damp.Her landlord decided a few months later to take her separate bathroom away from her and give it to the tenant upstairs for no reason. She was the only female in the place and she was forced to use the communal one instead (which had even more damp than her one ffs). Soon after she decided to leave and go back to her Mum's but beacuse she didn't sign a contract the poor girl couldn't get her deposit back. These type of shitty situations rarely happen to higher-waged working class/middle class and that's beacuse the Private Landlords know can't take advantage of them like they can do to the lower class/unemployed. THAT is what in part happened to those poor housing tenants in that tower block. Because they weren't wealthy the company that owned the building didn't give a damn about them. The action group (The people who lived in that death trap) raised concerns with the company about the safety of the tower and the policy of what should happen if ever a fire happened but nope it feel on deaf ears. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
