Completely agree; her/her label (mostly the latter) play it way, way, way too safe with single choices. Even Bounce or GNO, for example, may be too experimental by pop standards, yet they’d probably draw in a lot more attention just for standing out! I don’t understand why Atlantic won’t ever take a chance with Charli.

I feel like Charli's current brand of pop isn't concurrent with any of the trends (or up and coming trends) going on right now. It's a sound that the GP wouldn't understand and would see as just another shallow, basic pop act. For example, even with tropical house (arguably the "it" sound rn), it was very clear that it was about to blow up, but there's no sign of that happening with PC/hybrid pop besides Charli, and her label clearly isn't willing to invest in this era because like you said, they'd rather play it safe than take a risk. I'm pretty sure the only reason Atlantic even tried promoting Sucker was because of Boom Clap. It's all so fucked up, she'll never score a hit the size of Boom Clap with such mediocre singles, especially considering BC was on the soundtrack for TFIOS. Boys was a moderate success but not because it was a good song, because of all the cameos. Her label needs to fuck off tbh

I really believe she never had any intention of releasing those songs, seeing as she was so adamant about that since their debut (which is totally whack, lol - don’t get me wrong). As I’ve said before, I don’t think we’d even have Roll With Me to this day had Number 1 Angel not happened, and she changed her mind about No Angel as well because of the overwhelming reception (and I’m sure Sophie’s liking of the song had a part in that as well).

 

I think it’s more likely she would’ve released outtakes from the mixtape, or remixes of its songs, demos, things of that sort. But who knows for sure!

That's probably healthier to believe but I'd like to believe we almost had the exchange songs (is she really releasing them if she goes through a twitter fanpage to leak them? lol)

When I do a mental recap of this era and realize how XCX3 has been done for over a year now, and how Charli went from being frustrated at her label in the beginning of this year for delaying it for the first time to her having to pretend like she's ok with them DELAYING it a second time and then having to pretend like it's "just a release schedule", and how she released two "lead singles" 271 days apart, and how we went from thirsting over the release of new music to hoping for leaks (and getting them), and how Charli went from saying the album is being pushed to 2018 because it's "just the best time for her" to saying "it's being delayed because people keep leaking it and I have to rewrite it", and how Charli said in May that she had the best label meeting ever and literally can't wait to get all this new music to us but it's been over 5 months and she hasn't said anything about that since... I realize this era has honestly and truly been an absolute mess. This era was SO promising and Charli had the potential to change pop music just like she hoped she would, but now it's all a mess and she's been relegated to being a supporting act for hasley, performing songs from 3 years ago.

Leaks are fucked up but but XCX3 has been delayed by Atlantic three times already with no proof that it's not gonna happen again. If she hadn't made any announcements whatsoever about when the album might be released (Spring 2017, May 2017, September 2017, 2018), or that it was "80 percent done", and just made an announcement for the actual release date like all other artists do, her fans wouldn't feel the need to leak the music that was supposed to come out last month but didn't. Charli and Atlantic are to blame, not the hackers. Release your shit M.I.A. style and take agency.

Charli should've kept her mouth shut and that's the tea. We wouldn't know about Atlantic delaying her album if she didn't keep giving new unofficial release dates, and we wouldn't know about this music she's sitting on if she didn't perform it at Exchange (or performed R&R multiple times, or performed Rita's track, effectively stopping it from ever being released). She needs to take responsibility for her part and stop blaming the leakers for her not releasing music.
