Just because Lana wants civilian hostages freed, doesn't mean she's "pro right wing Israeli gov" or "Anti Palestine." Could she do more to support Palestinians, sure, but the idea that people are upset with this one opinion that hostages should be free is just baffling to me. TBH, it could also be argued that she and others could have done MORE to support the Jewish community after the 10/7 attacks, which resulted in the greatest loss of jewish life since the Holocaust, and yet you people are upset about a letter advocating for the freeing of hostages? Genuinely shocked at this community right now....

This recent escalation is a great reminder of how lucky I and others are to live in a Western country. USA needs to stop sending money to Israel (and every other country) and start using it to address the problems existing here. Do people think social media posts will really change the outcome of this conflict or is just the usual virtue signaling? If you care about the disenfranchised so much go out to your OWN community and donate your time.

Just to explain a few things: Gaza is the world's largest open air prison, they really have no government or resources, or anything close to what Isreal has so this situation is not equal in the slightest The last election Palestinians had was in 2006, and that is how Hamas came into power but they are more like a gang than an actual military group or government 40% of Palestinians are 18 years and younger, so they had no say in this election Israel was formed on top of Palestine, which stole land from the Palestinians and forced them back and back until they have barely anything now. People are kicked out of their own homes for Israeli settlers to live in, many of them coming from the United States. In their government and law system they are not seen as equal to Israelis and Israel has been killing them and causing them to suffer for 70+ years So, Palestinians just want to live and they want their land and homes back, while Israel sees them as a threat to their "state's" existence and respond by constantly bombing and killing them. Many countries around the world recognize Israel's occupation of Palestine as illegal as well These are things I wish they would teach us in school in the US, but the US is also very involved with Israel so

Im going to Celtic vs Atletico Madrid tonight and we have been emailed not to bring Palestine flags basically as the club will be fined for it. Crazy how they don't want people supporting Palestine as they are scared of fines but when it was Ukraine then it was fine to support them and nobody cared. That was fans from the match on Sunday and it will probably be the same tonight only will be 60,000 fans instead of 500. The last time this happened at a Celtic match under UEFA they were fined €10,000 for "illicit banners". Then the fans raised €150,000 to donate to charities in Palestine. It's really weird and a disgrace that supporting Palestine can get you fired from work, suspended, fined and stuff. Something really creepy about it.

This letter says nothing wrong and Lana can put her name to it if she likes, like the many other celebrities who have. The criticism some people seem to have is what the letter doesn’t say. I personally think that celebrities shouldn’t sign open letters which tend to be broad and bland. If they really feel they must comment, a statement should be personally issued so it can be more nuanced. I can only imagine the pressure to sign them though and avoid the “Lana Del Rey refuses to condemn terrorists” stories. If you feel it’s a mistake, it’s a small one and doesn’t mean anything anyway. Stop holding her to some sort of impossible standard please. She’s just trying to be empathetic.

Just to clarify my own position, I only started to realise what was really going on about 4 days ago. I did not start with any particular opinion besides "war is bad and taking hostages is bad". I started to feel stupid for not understanding the context of what the news was reporting, and felt a bit cornered by people showing disbelief over people taking no stance when genocide is happening. So I decided to read for 1-2 hours, and sure enough I started to see what pro-Palestine movements are talking about and why this is so desperate. So for those not sure what is going on. PLEASE READ. Please start to notice what your news is reporting, the language they choose, if they report news from both sides, etc. And read past the news too.

Don’t listen to the Zionists. I’ve followed the illegal occupation of Israel for a decade. Not when it was all over the media and every social media platform. What is happening to Palestinians is unbearable, it makes me sick and I lose sleep. I have followed people who would posts updates that are now dead. Regardless of Israel’s belief to self defense, the number of civilian deaths outweighs the death of “terrorists” the constant bombing and slaughtering of civilians only radicalizes Hamas more. And will radicalize younger generations in Palestine for years to come. I will always stand with the oppressed. Do not get confused by propaganda.

It's crazy when you look at the maps from 1967 until now It's referred to as "Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories" for a reason And that reason is that Israel keeps building illegal settlements in Palestine (not vice versa) Hamas literally said that this was the reason for the October 7 attacks. Don't get me wrong, I don't support violence against anyone, anywhere, ever, and I really feel for all the innocent people on both sides. But Hamas feels that Palestine is fighting for its very existence and desperate people will resort to desperate measures These actions also (unfortunately) stoke anti-Semitism. I've seen a lot of comments about "greedy Jews" and so forth which is very disheartening and alarming. I just think that the Israeli govt needs to look long and hard at this policy of taking land, and reconsider. And I think Western govts need to put pressure on them about it, too.

Israel are getting to the point where.. even its closest allies are struggling to justify it. Macron and the US saying that israel are making huge errors.. the UN making it clear that israel are at fault. The Israeli PM confessing that he needs to be held accountable for October 7 but “after the war”. Insanity.

She has said she never had a drinking problem and the only drug she liked to take back in 2007 was ADHD medication (she was randomly drug tested a lot back then and every one came back negative). We all love Lana and I 100% get where you're coming from but the letter clearly has a meaning that can easily be found. Thanking Biden for what? It is no doubt one of her poorest decisions and she should have known and thought more about the issue before blatantly signing it. Of course we know she has good intentions, but the world really isn't really all about intentions. Actions speak louder than intentions, which is why one should always be careful when doing something that one doesn't know much about. It is not that hard to find historical facts about what had actually happened for 70+ years in Palestine. At least it wasn't for me I guess.. People twisting her words is not a new thing at all but it does hurt to see that happening when she gets dragged right & left every time she does something random.

She hasn't spread any misinformation or ANYTHING, and the only reason we know about this letter is because of a tweet and now a handful of news articles.

What happened this month is basically a culmination of 75 years of occupation and apartheid. The fact that anybody is shocked that this happened… like just total ignorance. Some people are under the ridiculous impression that the Palestinians “elected” Hamas and are therefore complicit in the attacks - or that they should be held responsible for putting them in power. The last election in Palestine was in 2006. 7% of today’s Palestinian citizens voted for Hamas. 50% of today’s Palestinian citizens are under the age of 18. I think it comes down to people being grossly miseducated. There is a 75-year history of occupation on Palestinian land by Israel, which has been supported and acknowledged by most Western nations (as well as Egypt) for the better half of a century. The only logical way to resolve this conflict - in a way that protects the lives of both current and future Israelis and Palestinians - is to call for an immediate ceasefire and for there to be an established UN commission that lets Palestine become free from Israel and form its own government - not one that’s been imposed upon them by Israel for the last 15+ years

I don't know why you say that when we're all actually discussing and sharing information here + not even fighting about it. It's like you meant to post this in the "Lana signs letter to Biden" thread which is already a dumpster fire. Im noticing a lot of people on this site wanting to shut down and belittle conversation that makes them uncomfortable to talk about, especially when they feel "above it".
