my tinfoil hat conspiracy theory at this point is that she chose a thursday for the boiler room so she could surprise drop the album the same night and the drawn out release for the single was secretly to build hype for the album without explicitly giving anything away, which is why we still don't have a date for von dutch because she's actually dropping the whole album. this way she appeases the label and who's gonna be mad that von dutch took so long when there's like 11 other songs to listen to. her month off was to make sure everything was lined up and ready to go. seems very antithetical to the 8 month lead up to crash, "similar in its ethos" to the quick release of pop2, and very on brand for her idgaf era. so xcx6 out this friday.

the long lead up is just incompatible with the vibe she is trying to sell with this era lol, even 2 weeks for the single would have been pushing it. the best nights out are spontaneous and crazy, last minute plans, club hopping etc and instead she's like hurry up and wait. whatever honestly she's missed the mark in my opinion so i'm gonna lower my expectations

Not saying she was a stripper but I'm also not sure why people are so quick to say she never did and it was all made up just because there's no 'proof'? If she really did strip back in the day, what proof would we even have? I feel like most of her older music is her fantasizing or glamorizing her own life, so it's really hard to say.

I think it just reads differently because that’s Lana discussing her past & sexuality on her own terms, versus a bunch of strangers debating it on a public forum. Not saying this conversation absolutely shouldn’t happen, especially because we’re people who consider ourselves fans and allies, but it’s complicated! I think it’s healthy to have some boundaries and maybe even a certain level of discomfort when digging into intimate parts of LDR or any other celebrities’ lives, esp. when it continues to be normalized to a scary extent on the internet. That she’s willing to tackle it in her music certainly opens up the conversation, but shouldn’t equal full reign to turn her story into total fan gossip fodder. The lines can be crazy blurry, but luckily I feel like most people on LB try hard to walk the line of curiosity as opposed to invasion of privacy

I agree that there’s no way of knowing for sure, and I lean on the side of it being a semi-imagined experience——perhaps she’s had brushes with that industry or the people involved in it. What I do think is fully true, however, is that she resonates with the psychological experiences of women who do that kind of work and incorporated it into the music for evocative purposes and to reify her kinship with all women generally. It’s really an alluring artistic vehicle to explore complicated emotional subject matter, and the important thing is that even if it’s not her exact experience, Lana has embodied it very respectfully and tastefully.

Yeah, I'm definitely not trying to deny the possibility of LDR doing some variety of stripping etc. out of some sort of moral judgement lol I doubt that's anyone's motivation here! Lana's just a special case of an artist who self-mythologizes a lot, seemingly both with intention and without. She has a long history of fudging details even when going on the factual record, so while it's interesting to speculate about what secrets her songs might reveal, I think all us naysayers are just trying to gently point towards their fallibility. And, of course, while we've all made it clear that we'd pass no judgement on Lana if this was a real part of her past, discussions about a person's history with sex work and drugs are invariably going to get kind of thorny, so I think it's necessary to approach speculative discussion like this with a good degree of sensitivity and tact. I dont know why anyone actually thought she was going to surprise drop an album... none of the labels are letting artists do this right now. Every artist is being forced to post the snippet in tiktoks over and over again for weeks to "build hype". I feel like I've heard lil nas x's new song a zillion times and its not even out, I dont even know the name of it. Its ridiculous but yeah they are going to draw out this release for months. I do think this is going to be a great album from Charli although personally I find the visuals a bit lacking so far. It seems like she really made exactly what her fans have been asking for. More polished than HIFN but less commercial safe than Crash its exactly in that lane that I want from Charli songs. That being said I'm tired of hearing the von dutch snippet and just want it to be released and done with so we can get more snippets of the other tracks.
