I agree with the ideas behind your post, but I do think your wording is quite harsh.

Depression isn't an easy road, it eats away at people. And I don't think you can really blame Lana for her lack of promotion, live shows, and care for her appearance considering that she most likely is still suffering from depression/anxiety, and also after all the criticism and hate she got from people after the big break of BTD. It's easy for you to say, "I'm entitled as a fan to see a proper performance of hers" but you don't really know how hard things may have been for Lana. I presume you're  no famous celebrity with eyes watching from every angle. You've never had to deal with the crap Lana has over the past few years therefore I don't think you can make statements about what Lana should have done/should be doing, because you obviously don't know what's been going on inside her head and the situations she's had to deal with since the rise of her fame.

I do agree that a live performance and a little more care for her appearance wouldn't go astray every now and then, and I'd certainly take a little more promo any day, but I think it's hard for us as fans and not as people who know Lana or her situation personally to make proper judgments on what Lana should be doing. It's her life and if she's happy just putting out an album with no promo, no live performances, no TV, not having to worry too much about how she looks, then good for her! She has every right as a human being to do what she wants and we all need to learn that we aren't entitled to anything from Lana. At the end of the day, just be glad you're still getting anything from her. She's such a prolific songwriter, she releases so much music all the time and we've gotten HUNDREDS of leaks yet no one seems to ever be satisfied and everyone just wants more and more. Let Lana live, for goodness sake! She technically owes us nothing so be grateful you've gotten anything over the last few years - considering the backlash she got from BTD, she could have easily just said stuff it and given up, but she kept releasing music because it's what she loves and she wants to treat her fans.

Honestly, I didn't listen very far into that speech before, but this comment of yours made me want to go back and listen properly, and I actually found a heap of quotes he says that links back to the Lana universe. Some of these might be reaching for the stars and have no connection, but just thought I'd share regardless.

Here are some of the things he said and how I relate it back to Lana/UV.

"Secretly inside I just wanted to be liked. I mean, it doesn't manifest like that, I might hit you, but I really just want to be liked." (That sounds so similar to "he hit me and it felt like a kiss". Wonder if Lana caught the bad side of this Jim?)

"and next thing I know we're off to the races!" (clearly this is a pretty Lana thing to say, maybe she got it off him, or vice versa?)

He's also talking about Budweiser beers as well. I've always wondered why Lana wears that Budweiser beer shirt, and had a parodied shirt of it in the Ride video too. I doubt she drinks beer herself.

He also talked about being involved in an armed robbery? Wonder if this perhaps somehow relates to Tropico, and the boyfriend of Lana's that also was involved in armed robbery in the short film? And he also talks about stealing and crashing a car... This is What Makes us Girls teas anyone?

"I got down on my knees and said a prayer to a God I don't believe in" (Reminds me of "When I'm down on my knees, you're how I pray", pretty sure these aren't related but just interesting)

"I've got these white tennis shoes on" (Swan Song reference anyone? If you also look at Swan Song it's about wanting to escape a life of work and responsibilities. This guy Jim speaks about his past and how he was caught up in a number of businesses, owing large sums of money, and he was basically broke, but also how he overcame that. This seems to fit in quite well with the "you've got your money now, you've got your legacy... let's leave the world for the one's who change everything." It's also quite strange that they're WHITE tennis shoes and not just any shoes)

He also makes a joke near the end about how the group is a "cult" and they're gonna "sacrifice a virgin if they can find one". Although it was a joke, I wonder if they were at all cult-like in their behaviour. Sometimes a joke represents a deeper truth. Probably not got anything to do with sacrifices, but it is possible their group is cult-like.

Once again, I'd just like to state that these are all just correlations and could very well be mere coincidences and I could be reaching totally for the stars, but it's just peculiar how many things he says remind me of Lana and how well his story seems to fit into the lyrics of Lana's songs.

Not gonna lie, I love this trashy, upbeat pop Lana too. I would say overall I prefer her more serious, introspective side in most of her official discography but nevertheless I love this style too - it's nice to break up some of her darker material with some fun bops like these. It's a nice contrast and definitely one of the reasons I love Lana so much, she manages to explore so many different perspectives and moods but all brilliantly.
I do agree this bop would be a tad better without the rapping, but still amazing regardless in my opinion.

Hi there! Just want to point out that I'm replying via my new account (the user you just quoted is my old account which I can no longer access).

Sorry, I didn't mean that to come across as if I was offended. I'm not super religious at all (in fact, I wouldn't even call myself a 100% practicing Christian anymore). I'd read a theory about this song being about Lana having a relationship with a priest, which I did find a bit off-putting, especially since I'd always considered this song to just be another one of her songs about a "bad boy". I know this kind of thing happens a lot, and there is a lot of abuse within the Church, which is rather upsetting (child abuse, priests having relationships, homophobia, etc).  Looking back at it though, I don't think it's about a relationship with a priest. As you stated, "preacher" probably relates more to a religious person, or a person "preaching" a certain belief, rather than "preacher" explicitly equalling a priest.

Lana's lyrics are always somewhat ambiguous, which leads people to make really strange interpretations sometimes. It does certainly make for an interesting dialogue though!

I don't think she's saying "asking for forgiveness, unsexy". It sounds like she's either saying "I'm sexy" or "umm... sexy"
Go and listen to it, it's really clear it's not an 'n' sound. But then again, none of those options really make sense either.
It also could be "asking for forgiveness, on texting"... that doesn't really make much sense either but who knows? I just don't think "unsexy" is the right word, it sounds like something else to me??

Although I've never watched that film, judging by your comments it seems you may have figured it out, so great analysis!

I've always seen Jump as a song about suicide. The music is relatively upbeat and there are clapping sounds yet the lyrics seem to reference suicide ("Do you wanna jump? jump? jump?") For me the song has always resembled the idea that depression and suicidal thoughts are very difficult to recognize in another person. The music sounds happy but if you look at the lyrics it's much darker than that. I feel like the song is supposed to show how people can be struggling and contemplating suicide, and it can be right in front of your face, yet it's still so difficult to really notice. To me that's what Jump has always been about, but I think your analysis also makes a lot of sense. The best thing about Lana songs is that everyone picks it up and derives a different interpretation which is fantasic!

Something I found interesting from reading that Superstar Machine article is this:

I really doubt Lana is "Poppy" or any of the other pseudonymous women, but it could be possible she was involved in this group for some period of time.

To me, it also sounds like Princess Superstar's comment is the exact kind of thing Greg would have forced the girls to say to hide the truth of his organization.

Another note, there is a "Jim" who appears all over the net linked to the Atlantic Group. Here is a link to a speech he presented. I wonder if there is any correlation between the "Jim" we hear in UV and the "Jim" associated with the Atlantic Group? It would make so much considering Lana has stated before that in UV she is singing about alcohol, and that "Jim" was this figurehead in a group supposedly promoting sobriety. I also found a Bill who was quite prominent on a few sites involved in the Alcoholics Anonymous... could be possible Lana is also referencing him in some of her songs as well? Or just coincidence? I guess we'll never know

  19. Beautiful Loser liked a post in a topic by HawaiianTropic in Lana's Personality Type
Hi everyone! For those of you who have studied/know about the work of Carl Jung/Myers-Briggs, I'd love to hear what you think Lana's personality type is, using the Myers-Briggs type indicator.

I know we've had a thread dedicated to the types of users on this forum, but we never discussed what we think Lana's type is. I've read on external websites but a lot of the posts were made during the BTD/Paradise era, and I don't think at that time we had the best view of Lana's personality, as a lot of people were still making comments about how she's "fake" and "inauthentic" and so on, which I think made a lot of the guesses inaccurate and biased.

Personally, I think she's either an INFJ or INFP, but I'm not sure which fits her the best. I am an INFJ myself, so I'm not sure if that's subconsciously influencing my typing of her, and possibly making it a biased analysis. I do see a lot of INFJ tendencies in her, but also in some ways, I think she could be an INFP as well. I'll try to explain my typing.

To begin with, she's easily an introvert - I really don't see the point in debating it. She clearly draws her energy from her internal world and this is clear in her art and through the way she acts in her interviews. Plus, she's even stated it herself:

I definitely think she's an iNtuitive and Feeling type. The quote above could also be used to highlight her iNtuitive trait.
She seems to fit this description quite well about the NF (Idealist) temperament:

She always states she's a songwriter first, then a singer. I think this is interesting considering the above description.

She's certainly an intuitive person, and you can see that through a lot of her work. She's certainly a feeling type as well, in my opinion. Remember that video of her comforting a crying fan (I believe this took place in France)? Well, she seemed genuinely concerned for her and stayed with her for a while. I think she takes on the emotional state of others. For example, I feel like Ultraviolence is such a dark album because she absorbed a lot of the emotional darkness from Barrie. He was suffering from depression, insomnia and a number of other things that obviously had a negative impact on his mental health, and I think Lana soaked a lot of that energy from him and took it upon herself.

The J and the P is where I struggle to define her. A part of me thinks she's clearly a P. She seems to take things as they come rather than plan miles in advance. The "Ride" video in particular makes me think she's a P. But at the same time, I do believe that she often exaggerates her life, experiences and ideas for the sake of enhancing her music and her art, so it's hard to tell if the "Ride" video is "100% autobiographical" as she always states her music is, or whether there are a number of embellishments and a heap of hyperboles just to make the music more interesting and "cinematic", as she puts it.

The reason I doubt she could be an INFP is because their dominant function is Introverted Feeling, and I feel like Lana has a lot more Extroverted Feeling, especially since she tends to absorb the emotions of those around her, as I stated above. I feel like her intuition is more Introverted than Extroverted as well. Sensing and Thinking I'm not too sure about.

Personally I can only see her as being an INF- type, just unsure about the P/J. I've seen some people type her as an S over N, but I don't see it as much as her intuitive side.

    What do y'all think?

    No worries.
Her voice can be a bit odd at the start and you might find the compositions a bit unusual but after a few listens her songs really grow on you and her eccentric voice becomes the best thing about her.

omg only just saw those videos. So cute!! I can't erase the smile off my face right now. Dare I say it, she has never seemed this happy EVER. Like:
She's been at the beach so much lately just having a good ol' time
She's been taking so much more care of her appearance and her new hair is what I'm living for
She's been going to heaps of events
She seems to have reconciled and sorted out her shit with Lady Gaga which is amazing because she went from writing a diss track about her to showing up to her birthday party and posing with her
These new videos on Insta indicate she's having a good time and she's gained back a lot of her confidence
And her manager just said "beautiful new songs" which is crazy because it sounds like the first time in forever since any of her management have appeared to be truly happy with where she's heading.
She's been using her social media more regularly lately so she doesn't seem as withdrawn
She's doing festivals!! so she must be in a better state of mind to even be thinking of that
Plus she's not with Francesco anymore and I feel like he was a part of her weird moods earlier on.

I'm just so happy for her right now, I have so much faith in the next record and whatever direction she's heading musically. There's no way she can write a slow, lethargic album like Honeymoon again now that she's in such a positive state of mind. I don't want another BTD but I do want something with a bit more energy and passion and I definitely have a feeling we're gonna get that. I mean, she even said in that interview last year she could see herself doing a NY record again with more energy.

That would be true, but recent news has it Lizzy is back with revenge taking over Lana's career this time.... cheeky Lizzy

"LIZZY GRANT IS BACK, BITCHES! GET READY TO HAVE YOUR WEAVES SNATCHED WITH LIZZY GRANT AKA LANA DEL RAY 2.0"

What's the difference between a turtle and a tortoise???
