Ooh, I've been tempted to make a thread like this for a long time but I thought it'd be critically panned by the forum members.

    Anyways:

-I read the word "Off" on a switch and I thought it said "To the Races".
-I stood to do the pledge of allegiance in school the other day and said, "I Pledge Allegiance to my Dad for teaching me-"
-During an assembly, we all stood to sing the National Anthem and I thought they meant Lana's "National Anthem"
-My dad grabbed a Mountain Dew bottle out of the fridge and I automatically whispered to myself "New York City..."
-My Spanish teacher asked the class about poems and the only poem I knew off the top of my head was Walt Whitman's, "I Sing the Body Electric"
-My Social Studies teacher said, "You can't have your cake and eat it too" - and I thought "Don't tell Lana that."

I'll think of more instances in the past as time goes.

to say gatsby's getting any oscar nods is a stretch. original song, probably, but i can't see it getting nominations in any other category, best actor included.

In the wake of a masterpiece called "Spring Breakers" - my favorite director in the business today, Sofia Coppola, has been teasing her new film with a similar girls-gone-bad theme called "The Bling Ring." The film is based on the infamous burglar bunch that robbed the homes of some of Hollywood's elite circa 2008-2009: Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, Megan Fox, etc.

The most famous member of the sticky-fingered gang, Alexis Neiers - a legend and an inspiration to us all  - is being portrayed by Emma Watson.

The rest of the cast is comprised of newcomers, with the exceptions of Leslie Mann - who portrays Andrea Neiers and Taissa Farmiga, who is an actress in American Horror Story.

The film is based off of the iconic Vanity Fair article, "The Suspects Wore Louboutins", by Nancy Jo Sales (for all my fellow Pretty Wild fans, let's start chanting "$29 dollars" and "brown bebe shoes!"). If you really want to feed your Bling Ring fix, make sure to check out Nancy Jo Sales's novel "The Bling Ring" which comes out on May 21st.

Here's the official trailer, and most - if not all of the dialogue - is quoted verbatim from the actual Bling Ring members.

The film premiered at Cannes on Thursday to polarizing reviews, no stranger to Coppola, who received both applause and boos for her 2006 beauty "Marie Antoinette."

The film receives a limited release in New York and LA on June 14th, but a wide release on June 21st across America.

surprised there isn't a topic already - but i'd like to hear your thoughts.

For those who don't know who she is - she was just convicted in the murder of her former boyfriend Travis Alexander. The murder took place in June of 2008, but her trial began in January of this year - lasting all the way up until earlier this month. Minutes after her conviction she conducted an interview with Fox News in which she stated that she wanted the death penalty, since death was the "ultimate freedom." But more recently she made pleads for life. The jury is currently hung on whether to give her life or death. Throughout her trial and interrogations by police, she told many lies about what really happened the day of his murder, her stories constantly changing.

Before getting her mugshot, she asked the arresting officer to 'primp up.'

    some highlights of the case:

hope it's ok to bump this thread but i saw this film over a month ago, and it blew me away.

I definitely believe Spring Breakers is Korine's most fully realized project, and I am a big fan of his too. Going in, I had feelings as to what to expect, but really - this film was haunting madness. He has a knack for portraying lifestyles in a scary way. It was really captivating, every shot, it was mesmerizing up until the very last moments, where I was left haunted. The ending shot is going to probably be one of my favorites of the year (next to the ending shot of Park Chan-Wook's Stoker). The cinematography definitely helped bring the film to such a powerful level in my opinion, every shot was littered with this candy neon color that illuminated some of the darkness, but left so much to be discovered. It reminded me of that movie Havoc in some ways, of course much better. I really loved the repetition; of sound, image, it really brought forward an emptiness to what these girls really desired most. And the ending sequence, jeez, I couldn't look away - it was so f*cking perfect. My sister and I were the ones who saw it, my sister thought it was stupid, as did most of the people who left the theater according to their chatter. But since I've seen it, I've found myself having to defend it to nearly every single person I talk to about it.
I'm not a fan of James Franco, but I definitely think his performance - which was great - was a crucial aspect to the brilliance of this film, alongside the marketing and all else. I also thought Selena Gomez was really good, mostly because of that scene where she was crying about being uncomfortable. I also adored the rest of the cast and their repetitive yearnings for a spring break always slipping off their tongues. The Everytime sequence is perfect also. This film's a masterpiece in my opinion. It's going to rank in my top 5 for the year without a doubt.
