Hey, as a vinyl fanatic and collector, I had to have the AKA and Unreleased vinyls even if I suspected the quality would be poor. I was pleasantly surprised that for the price, these vinyls have been pressed by someone who knows what they are doing! I tested the vinyls through multiple digital and analogue equipment (the good stuff from the 70's, like I said, fanatic), and it was clear to me the tracks on each vinyl had been acquired from the original master recording. It is far from uncommon for artists who have strong vision and opinions on their craft to leak their own unreleased material to bootleggers and the internet for keen fans to enjoy. This allows the artist to express their full artistic disposition without harsh backlash from their label or producers. I have all these tracks in the highest available digital copy (iTunes rip of AKA etc) and the vinyl pressing, especially where the Unreleased recordings are concerned, are far superior to their digitally available counterparts. With the volume slider set to max (and that is damn loud with my set up), the tracks were all clear, undistorted, unpitched and cleanly pressed. AKA has a distinct crackling sound throughout the pressing, and I've seen some complaints about this, but that is (in my opinion) one of the detrimental elements of the vinyls overall appeal. At the end of the day, I'm grateful that someone has pressed these vinyls at their own expense and allowed me to experience the novelty of some of Lana's finest works in all their original, untouched glory

Hey everyone! I thought I'd share this parody series I found. If you're easily offended by swearing and drug / sexual references maybe it won't be for you. It's a voice dub of The Real Housewives of Melbourne and there are two seasons of it so far! Follow the link above. Hope you guys have a good laugh

not trying to be obnoxious or something but

Why compare Lana to the girls, when one should compare her to the boys
as in Elton as in Roy Orbison as in Brian Wilson(Beach Boys) Pet Shop Boys etc.

One can over almost 50 years now, recognize an Elton John song, and see the Elton John influences and also see where Elton's music came from (Bach) his lyrics came from Bernie, but it could be said, Elton could have had #1 hits with the phone book as lyrics, and if someone found a time capsule with songs like Philadelphia Freedom, would be hardpressed to understand WTF those lyrics meant (tribute to BJ King)

I try not to put down the artists that are directly or indirectly copying or stealing from Lana, however, only so many hours in a day and I would rather spend them with her songs (Lorde's one and only album is great, like a baby sister Lana, but where is the 2nd? How many hands are attempting to put together something that will attempt to sound original and new? We have no idea as it keeps being pushed further and further back.

If Lana were vindictive, she should have sued Taylor for outright theft. Taylor should be happy she didn't. I do admire how Taylor did revolutionize the country industry, and forced them to change methology of charting, only to abandon them, move to NYC and keep making money. More power to Taylor I guess.

Reminds me of Led Zeppelin they stole Stairway from Randy California, his family long after he died sued, Led Zep won, yet the judge just said Randy's heirs do NOT
have to pay the $800,000 court costs and Zep has to pay. They should have for cheaper given Randy a credit of say 1/2% for royalities this date forward and come out ahead.

As a major Kate Bush fan from day one, sorry, but her latest stuff is not the same level Kate. And I had a ticket for her show had I wanted it (all it took was money and a plane ticket),
but when I heard her set list, I said no, I do not want to see it (this is a comment for those that insist Lana should do away with BTD or Paradise songs in her show
and only play newer stuff. HELL NO.  that's all. (and she never toured in America, so I never had a chance to see her, except I was in the audience at SNL live)  And I like both Wuthering Heights recordings

Like Lana, Kate as she grew older was able to reign her voice in and control it better than the carefree kid when she started

I don't think you're giving Lana enough credit- I mean she's still just as excited about Honeymoon, and even though she doesn't promo her shit like other artists, the music sells itself. The competition doesn't have this advantage, and that's why they don't matter.

This next record is going to have even more of a creative direction than Honeymoon did, Lana knows exactly what she is doing and that's the most exciting part is seeing where she goes from Honeymoon..

I listened to Lana Del Ray again tonight, for the millionth time-- my feelings haven't changed. This album is genius, and it definitely saddens me that Lana will likely never return to this set of aesthetics and style of music.

However, the genius of AKA is not *just* Lana. I give a sizable part of my respect for the album to David Kahne, as well. While Lana created killer melodies, lyrics, and concepts that would work extremely well under the guidance of any producer, Kahne had the perfect touch to push the songs from "excellent" to "god-like", in my opinion.

It definitely deserves repeat listens-- some subtle flourishes Kahne brought in are best noticed after you've been bowled over a few times by Lana's handiwork with the stories told and pictures painted here. To me, the perfect example of Kahne's "Midas touch" on AKA is "Pawn Shop Blues". As evidenced by a live performance and a demo, PSB was a staggeringly beautiful, tender, and poignant track when Lana was doing it on her own. However, Kahne took it to another level-- while PSB in its raw state is mournful and brimming with sadness, Kahne's instrumentation gives it depth-- it goes from being a "sad" song to something better described as "bittersweet". With the angelic echoes and trembling guitars, Kahne doesn't detract at all from Lana's lyrics-- instead, he gives them deeper meaning and manifold facets. Pawn Shop Blues becomes, all at once, a hopeful look at living for a purpose outside of yourself, a melancholy assertion on the nature of love and loss, and a somber reminder of how one can lose it all for nothing. With these extra dimensions, the track becomes infinitely interesting, as it's hard to tell where the hope begins and the desperation ends.

I'm rambling-- my point being, AKA is an absolutely genius record that I'll love 'til the day I die, and both David Kahne and Lana are geniuses for putting just the right elements in just the right places to create an album that is cohesive yet kaleidoscopic, and that has so many facets and subtleties that it demands repeat listens. Fabulous. Please continue sharing info and thoughts on AKA here, because it means the world to me and I want to know all there is to know about it!

    Thanks for reading all this
