  1. Over the last week or so...

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (never had a physical copy of just this one, haha)

    Rihanna - Unapologetic

    The Weeknd - Trilogy

Alicia Keys - Girl On Fire

    t.A.T.u. - 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane: 10th Anniversary Edition

    Peter Gabriel - So

  2. Apart from "Bel Air" and maybe "Body Electric," nothing on "Paradise" is as haunting as the best moments on "Born To Die."

I'm not necessarily disappointed in the EP, since I like almost everything on it. It just doesn't get under my skin as much. "Born To Die" is one of those rare albums that can still give me chills long after the point I should have overplayed the thrill out of it. I'm not sure if "Paradise" will hold up the same way yet.

  4. I hate the way Rihanna is spewing out albums... and I have to say the Diamonds song didn't peak my interest at all. We'll see what else comes out...

I'll never love her like i do other artists since she doesn't write her own stuff, but she's had the privilege of some great songs. Man Down, Rude Boy, Hard, We Found Love. I'm sure there are more.

What is this thing of spelling things wrong she has? Roc me out. You da one. Phresh Out the Runway. Is this some attempt at appearing hip to youth or something? I don't get it.

"Roc Me Out" is a nod to her record label, Roc Nation. Rita Ora, her labelmate, has the similarly titled "Roc the Life."

    The others are just slang/Twitterspeak.

  5. I actually really liked the snippets. As pure (guilty?) pleasure pop, she's never disappointed me, and this new album looks like it's loaded with exactly the kind of thing I like from her --- grimy beats.

  6. Kerosene + Affection + Pale Flesh + Sad Eyes + Violent Youth = :legend:

That said, I seriously love the whole album. I'm not sure if it tops (II) yet for me, but it's definitely right up there with it.

  7. Pitchfork: The idea of "purity" shows up a lot as well-- do you think that is an unrealistic ideal, or something that can be achieved if it were not for forces aimed at sullying such purity? What is pure to you?

AG: Purity is an illusion. The idea of purity has been used as an excuse for calamities like honor killings, bride burnings, child molestation. Purification is genocide.

YES, YES, YES. Alice eloquently explains something I've felt for a long time but didn't know how to say. I want "Purification is Genocide" on a t-shirt.

  8. I finally got to see my ultimate fave live for the first time last night. :legend:

We had 2nd Row seats along the left side of the "outer triangle," which was where she seemed to do the very best parts of the show! Well worth the wait, especially since she did my two "wishlist" songs that I've waited for YEARS to see ("Express Yourself" and "Open Your Heart"). The new songs really came to life, too, especially a stripped-down version of "Love Spent" and (somewhat surprisingly) GMAYL.
