Lana was seen as an easy target back in the day, it's actually really sad to think about

How to Disappear really is the worst song on the album. The vocals, the production, the mixing... All of it had so much potential. How did they approve this? God...

it’s partially misogyny and partially because critics are so disconnected from the tastes of younger people that they thought she would be just another flash in the pan that would be gone as fast as she came, and are now trying to make up for their earlier assumptions and trying to sound hip by showering her with praise

i was gonna write a long ass paragraph about why reviewers who dissed her earlier albums are now giving her amazing scores across the board and ignoring some of her dumber lyrics and the terrible production on songs like htd but i don’t have the energy someone else do it for me

All these stans making it sound like this is her Magum Opus while I'm over here enjoying just a few tracks and thinking that the production and mixing of the album falls flat and sounds downright terrible at times...

I rate it a ‘C.’ The songwriting seems lazy and flaccid on most of the songs. She seemed to be trying to achieve a very low dynamic, and she succeeded.

She also said it was a folk album with surf overtones—I certainly don’t hear folk, though the title track’s production seems to be a slight shoutout to Joni Mitchell’s ‘Court & Spark,’ and there’s the too-obvious Ladies of the Canyon reference.

Like many of her albums, there’s strong and weak tracks, good and bad. ‘HIAB’ still sounds like 3 completely different songs badly mashed together, like a third-rate B-side. She completely wastes the ‘happiness is a butterfly’ parts with the unfortunate other sections.

I also miss the pure audacity, beauty and creativity she revealed on songs like ‘Live or Die,’ ‘Last Girl on Earth,’ ‘Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight,’ and especially ‘Angels Forever,’ ‘Hollywood,’ and ‘JFK.’

Just listened to BTD/Paradise again. NFR sounds underproduced , lazy compared to it and I prefer the way Lana uses her voice on previous albums (darker, less breathy/airy). Not saying this is a bad album, still gonna play Cinnamon Girl a lot, but I do think it's going to be one of my least favorite.

Yeah IMO if any of the songs are about the Prince of Pasta, it's HIAB:

"If he is a serial killer" = if he is a heartbreaker

He's a known womaniser who would fuck anything in a skirt.

It seems to be about a tumultuous relationship in LA and NYC ... and iirc he commuted between both cities for work.

Why do something fun tomorrow when you could do it today?
Like we could all be dead tomorrow and then those of you who haven't listened will have died never having heard Cinnamon or California.
