Can I just say that idk what it looked like on streaming, but I was there and it was unbelievable. I was in shock the whole time. Lana drove by on the motorcycle literally right in front of me. I feel like I still haven’t processed what I saw??

I feel like everyone’s expectations in here were wild and it set a weird tone for me watching lol. Literally in reality that was one of the most gorgeous classic Lana performances ever. The entrance was So legendary… I’ll never recover. True artist.

I find that people's expectations of live shows are usually too high. It's the experience that counts, not the vocal and instrumental perfection that makes the event.

Being from another generation than most of you, some acts I've seen live, like Jeff Buckley, Leonard Cohen, the Rolling Stones, Yma Sumac, and Midnight Oil, and, in days of yore, The Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Pretenders, the Cars, and Linda Ronstadt were spot-on and perfect without sacrificing energy or originality, while others, like Blondie, Fleetwood Mac, and Marianne Faithfull--whom I've seen more times than any other artist--sounded less than letter-perfect, to put it mildly (though Faithfull's performances varied wildly from excellent to poor). In the cases of Blondie and Fleetwood Mac, sometimes it was almost impossible to identify which song they were playing, so disorganized were the arrangements and weak the vocals.

I think we all know by this time that, in terms of sound and vocals, Lana's songs are not going to sound exactly like the studio versions for several reasons, like those stated here, cutting the bridges, skipping verses, or an audio set-up that doesn't quite do her vocals justice.

As I've said here before, Lana doesn't have the powerhouse voice of a Whitney Houston, an Anne Wilson,  a Mariah Carey, or a Linda Ronstadt, vocalists who could almost break a crystal glass with their voices. So I wouldn't expect that.

Just seeing Lana enter on the back of that motorcycle was enough for me.

Lana, not Billie, is the voice of "our generation." So many people, late to the party, are just waking up to that fact, and even to her existence. Despite all the hardships, obstacles, and press attacks, Lana has persevered and had a truly admirable career.

With all the country music meant to come out this year, I think she should surprise us all with a psychedelic surf rock trip hop masterpiece …!

Let the delusions begin  can she at least sing High By The Beach from Honeymoon? It's like the only Honeymoon era song she has sung most live...

I think she’ll switch out Ocean Eyes w/ Billie for a cover or another guest performance

that outro  easily one of the most iconic moments of her entire career

it went from delightful americana to haunted 4th of July parade/The Shining to an 80's Guess supermodel/astronaut's wife/Marilyn being saluted by a line of hell's angels as she floated away into darkness

has anyone else noticed how well "hope is a dangerous thing" with lana's hologram replaced the first part of A&W? you know, before the "jimmy jimmy coco puff" starts, she sings "I'm invisible, I'm invisible, I'm a ghost now" and also in hope she sings "calling from beyond the grave", and I think that's why they used the hologram

So apparently at some point during the set the keyboard broke and also hadn’t been tuned correctly & ofc issues with her mic and ear-ins, reported by Jen Stith’s sister who heard this from Jen x

It was a mixed bag, and I'm still processing/rationalizing it. I couldn't see the live cause it's way, WAY past my bedtime, but I was grateful to see it on youtube, in a priveleged seat relative to the average audience viewer. Her singing's nice (when she's not fading) and she's killing the Jessica Rabbit look, imo. The sound guy obviously had problems keeping up with her vocal dynamics and couldn't handle when she's soft and then increases volume. LDR's singing style is definitely of a past generation, but even that generation didn't sing that way (e.g., Ella and Billy -- the other Billy -- had much more power). Her energy levels also seemed intentionally markedly depressed at times, as if it were way, WAY past her bedtime too. However, I can spin/rationalize that as a new kind of somno-style (to go with narco-swing and others), so that she and her songs, are meant to be perceived in a hypnogogic dream state, with the subdued lighting (and images) helping that. That Baptiste showed up was understandable for this concert, and I liked their interluding better than the album's. However, when Billy Eilish came on, it was like "holy shit, I really must be dreaming this stuff", and I liked that part very much ("get out of my fucking face", lol). I'm just guessing (any opinions?)... Antonoff did essentially a "live solo" with a hologram of LDR, singing what I imagine to be the original vocal stems (?); at any rate her singing seemed different from the rest of the concert.  The hologram technique is usually done with dead artists (e.g., Tupac), so LDR's appearance, as such, was unsettling. Her morbidity game is certainly on point with that, even if it's the ghost of a past performance. Liked the Young and Beautiful outro and its horns. In sum, maybe her ambition exceeded her execution a bit, but ambition is still the most important thing for me. It will be interesting to see what her second performance will be (as in identical or with switch ups, or maybe she might do the same stuff a bit more amphetiminically, without the drugs, of course), though I doubt they'll stream that too.

Just a by the way, I split the Weekend 1 & Weekend 2 performances into two different threads since this one grew so much so that way we’re not starting at page 400 come next Friday lol. If anyone wants to start discussing next week’s show, you can visit the new thread below x

if people are actively at coachella and finish a set and go on reddit their opinion is nullified and are chronically online

Aside from the iconic intro and her obviously looking the best she's ever looked, where was this energy?

I hope they do shower her with praise, but there is a difference between "negative" and "Disappointed" a lot of people (myself included) stayed up for this, and it does seem a BIT underwhelming. She looked great, and started out so strong, but vocally, whether or not they were from mic issues or in her head issues, simply weren't good and missing for more than half of the songs. She absolutely could have eaten her background singers up, but she didn't. The back ground singer hit the high note every single time. Was it a good show, absolutely. Was it not the best? also absolutely. When we can sleep on it/think on it, it probably won't be seen as so bad, but right now it is a bit disappointing.

Expectations were ungodly high, but I think deep down we all knew that

Before I can even share my thoughts, I still need to recover from the Hope is a Dangerous Thing performance. That had me bawling. I'm sure a lot of you know how much that song means to me. She portrayed it perfectly.. because sometimes when you truly are hopeless, you feel like a shell of yourself... a ghost... a withering whisper in the wind... just like a hologram. Perfect.
Quick thoughts on the rest - she looked absolutely radiant. Hair, makeup, outfit, everything perfect. Once she got the opening nerves out of her, her vocals were beautiful too. Lots of emotion on Arcadia. The pole dance during Candy Necklace was iconic. The two songs with Billie were just so incredible I don't quite have words for that either except that I would absolutely kill to be in Billie's position where my favourite artist is not only singing my song, but is letting me sing her signature song with her. What an honour.
Anyway. Need to pull it together a little bit more because Hope has destroyed me and I will be unreachable for the rest of the weekend as I have an existential crisis xx

    I liked it
I mean we are dedicated stans so for us it's repetitive but she played all her biggest songs and it made sense tbh
Definitely sounded quite nervous at the start but hopefully next week she will feel more comfortable
