I don't feel smug against the 'bandwagon' or newer fans (I love new fans tbh), just genuinely lucky to have discovered Lana back in late 2011 where I could follow her career from the build-up to BTD and watch her blossom from then on. I didn't like her music at first, but there was something striking about that woman, I thought her live vocals were terrible and shaky but her submissive behavior was what grabbed my attention. As a 13 year old, at the time, she's the first celebrity who I really took an interest in (forgetting about the jonas brothers).

Back then, I didn't know one person who liked her - people hated her and they seriously hated me for liking her and sure, she still has a LOT of hate but that's part of the package and I can name many people who may have detested her in 2012 but now have a good bit of Lana on their iPod.

What some people don't understand is, a musician doesn't have to be a perfect role model. She always gets picked up for having 'surgery' and being 'anti-feminist' etc. but so what? Everyone has controversial opinions and she doesn't have them to preach to all her fans, she has them because she's human, an independent, strong-minded woman who hasn't let herself fall victim to the music industry - this is also present in her music and although I prefer BTD to UV, I was really proud that she made an album which was so her and so NOT just what the pop industry wanted from her.

Another thing some people don't understand is, she's not a typical pop entertainer. I don't get involved in stan wars because people always insist on bringing out the 'how many awards does your fave have' and 'my fave sold this many copies in 2014' because Lana honestly doesn't give a fuck... And she's still made herself an icon (which she has undeniably always dreamed of). Jesus, I don't even know how she does it.

(btw, i really love this thread - i think it's great to have a thread where we can just celebrate and rant about our appreciation for our Lana)

Wow, there's something really appealing about a lot of these, and when the over-the-top, psychedelic style is pulled off, it's very striking, which you managed to do. Gods & Monsters, Cruel World and Dark Paradise are probably my favourites, although I love the image you used for Pin Up Galore, faded with the waves because it really reflects the atmosphere of the song.

I do agree that BTD goes a bit wish-washy after National Anthem but even more so with UV, in my opinion. FMWUTTT, MPG, Old Money, Sad Girl, PWIC, G&R are all similar-ish sounding, compared to how different Brooklyn Baby, West Coast, Ultraviolence, Shades of Cool are at the beginning which are also the stand out tracks/ones that got the most promotion so she definitely could have done the tracklisting a lot better.

Saying all that, I don't wanna put UV down because I do adore it and it's like 10000X better than if she went down the pop route instead.

AKA comes extremely close to BTD with me, I prefer the songs individually and just the whole 'surf noir' thing she was going for but I put BTD above just cos of the production and how it goes together as an album. Also Lolita and Lucky ones get slated wayyy too much, Lolita is one of my favourites.

    This.

Don't get me wrong, I like her going in a more experimental direction, with UV and probably with Honeymoon too but BTD is iconic, I'm pretty confident that she'll never come out with an album that goes together as well as this masterpiece.

Ok, I'm not a graphic designer (elegance, minimalism, sleek use of fonts, proportions etc.), and these won't be perfect imagined covers for Lana's singles that will suit everyone's taste, but my own interpretations based on my views on her art and feelings and visions she stirrs up in me. My style is a bit kitschy, baroque, psychedelic and sometimes over the top with colors or gore elements (some of the works are even morose, diabolic and macabric).
First covers are made with wrong font, because I couldn't download the propriate one, but now I got it.

Lana has a huge fanbase and she's really successful and I think that will last forever. She's EXTREMELY famous on the Internet and she's becoming more and more popular ~in the real world. I personally think she is an icon and her impact in pop culture is undeniable.

Everyone(the hipster music press) thought back around spring 2012 that she's a "flash in the pan" and will be irrelevant by 2013. Now she's bigger than ever.

From "Video Games" to "Big Eyes", Lana has never put out a song that I thought cringe-worthy or bad in any way. I know she is not the sole songwriter for many of her songs, but that doesn't change the fact that she knows how to partner up with quality songwriters too. That's a skill in itself. She has a tremendous visual arts flair that IMHO is indelible. From the videos of "Video Games", "Blue Jeans", "Summertime Sadness" with their super-8 type quality to the epic "Ride" to "Tropico" I think she's a female David Lynch.

On top of all that, a new album coming at the end of the year. She's literally the only woman in the pop industry(other than Sia) that I can celebrate.

There is a way she invokes nostalgia and sadness that is indelible. Some people have a problem with that, but someone has to carry that torch. She is fucking crazy, but she is free.

    Keep on sad-corin' Lana.

None of them. But I've kinda been a Blake shipper for a long time now. If I can't have him, she can - that would be cute seeing them perform together, plus they'd never have a long time apart because they'd be together when she tours too.

I'm kinda surprised how much I agree with her. It's definitely debatable as everyone reacts to both words differently .

As a girl, I would call a guy a 'bitch' either as a joke or if they're genuinely being an idiot because unfortunately I go to school with a disgusting amount of sexists and I know that 'bitch' will really piss them off because it's associated with femininity. But then, I'd feel uncomfortable calling someone a faggot even though boys in my school are even more homophobic than sexist because I'm straight(ish) so I feel like I'm being offensive myself.

I'm fine with girls calling each other bitches but I hate it when a guy calls me a bitch because for some reason it reminds me of a frustrated business man from the 50's talking to his degraded wife before slapping her.... idk so that's why I don't include 'faggot' in my vocabulary because it refers to people I'm not included in.
  22. Hello Heaven liked a post in a topic by longtimeman in Azealia Banks Not Okay With Gay Men Using the Word 'Bitch'
But a lot of us hate people using any of those terms as a way of putting people down.

I was called a faggot plenty of times when I was in high school and it hurt me a lot - not because of any issues around my actual sexuality, but because I was being associated with the lowest type of person in society - someone who wasn't a real man. But I at least had the comeback "fuck you - I'm not really a queer". Unfortunately, I now know there was at least one person also there who couldn't do that, and was being told by the group "that thing you actually are - which boils down to loving the wrong people - makes you actually worthless, so you better keep hiding it".

It took me a while to realise this, and work out that I didn't become a more worthwhile person by calling other men I didn't like 'faggot', and it's why I cringe any time I hear the word.

I also cringe a little when people do this. I mean, it's literally replacing the word 'woman' with 'bitch' as if that's some sort of substitute which is really degrading, even if it isn't at all intentional.

I'm kinda surprised how much I agree with her. It's definitely debatable as everyone reacts to both words differently .
