  1. ...But where is Bounce? :defeated:

Apparently Iggy never liked it all that much, and was pressured into releasing it by her UK label because it was radio-friendly. They actually wanted it to be her first single, which she vehemently refused. She thinks Bounce doesn't fit her album; she tweeted "faith has zero to do with something flowing and belonging to a body of work. Either it fits or it doesn't and it does not." She also said "FYI. Those are not the official names of songs on my track listing I tweeted. Many are just beat names I've recorded to."

She doesn't sound too happy about how the music industry works, in general...

  2. Yay for another PJ Harvey fan! I'm only 23, but I feel like I'm ancient for still remembering Mazzy and PJ. I'm not alone! ;) I saw her last tour too! I was right on the barricade! Which show did you go to?

I saw her at Paléo Festival in Switzerland, in 2011. And you?

  3. Hi, I'm in love with your taste. Mazzy Star AND Dirty Beaches?!  :flutter:

    PJ Harvey - Catherine

Thank you, and you like PJ Harvey too, so right back at you! ;) A concert of hers about 2 years ago is one of the best I've ever been to!

  4. Ooh, I like that cover! It's not the most original one or anything, but Sharon has a great voice & the heavier instrumentation fits the song nicely.

I used to be kinda into metal a few years ago, but it was mostly doom. The symphonic / gothic stuff was never really my thing, although I did like Lacuna Coil. I saw Nightwish live once and it was okay, but other than a couple of songs I could never get into their music.

  5. I also have some trouble buying an actual meth addiction tbh. Meth really is bottom of the barrel, only second to, what, bath salts? She was apparently an alcoholic who also did a fair bit of coke... maybe she was an occasional meth user and had those 'bad experiences' she's mentioned a few times in interviews while on meth, and maybe that scared her enough to want to get completely clean? This is just me speculating, of course...

where da fuck you buying your coke from.. an ounce is about 300$???????
I think you mean a point of cocaine for $20 lol

Where the hell do you guys buy cocaine this cheap?! :hdu: Here the going rate is almost 50 euros for 1 gram!

I have ADHD so something like Meth could really make me spin. I am naturally spining all over imagine with something like that. Meth here is cheap like crack. Is considered "poor peoples drug". I guess is different everywhere. I am curious about coke tho. I always wanted to try it but I never got the corage to do it. My drugs experience are simple like acid and ecstasy. For begginers I assume and I pretend to keep them tthat way. And something called "Lança Perfume" is a carnaval drug basically. Comes in a tube and looks like a vaporizer. You just spray it on a tissue and smell it for a while. Is great because the effect only lasts a couple seconds. I don't drink more than 2 times a week because I have really strong constitutions. I mean it really takes like half a bottle of vodka to make me drunk. And I don't have hangovers so in the next day I am ready to do it all over again. Everything is fun until is not fun anymore I guess. I do love vodka redbull tho. Hummm

You tried acid?! Actual LSD?! That's my dream drug! :icant:

I've been wanting to try it for such a long time but I've never met the ~right people for that, the ones that claim to have it always try to sell me cheap knockoffs like DOB or DOI. Anyway, how was it for you?

And omg, me too! (I'm not even surprised anymore... :toofunny: ) Even though I'm pretty thin, I can handle my alcohol way better than most men.

  6. The original japanese version The Ring (or Ringu) scared the shit out of me - and that's saying something, 'cause I'm not easily creeped out by films.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) is genuinely disturbing imo. Not exactly 'scary', just plain old psychological terror.

I'd also say [Rec], Suspiria (I love Argento's films!), Village of the Damned & Children of the Damned (there's just something really creepy about evil kids, idk) and Hostel (yeah, it's exploitative and pretty stupid, but it's one of the goriest I've ever seen).

I didn't feel attached at all to the 3rd generation. I didn't surprise me though, I knew it wouldn't be the same without a Stonem in Skins. The whole show tbh was about them.

Totally agree. There was a certain continuity / link between the first 2 gens, while the 3rd seemed like a completely different series imo.

And everything felt contrived - the storylines, their appearance... Like the writers were trying way too hard to seem 'cool'.

I liked Rich, Grace too (to some extent), but by the end of S5 I was already annoyed with what they'd done with the couple. I kinda sorta liked Mini but other than that either disliked or was indifferent to everyone else.

Imo the series should have ended after S4 tbh. I'll eventually watch S6 for, you know, ~closure but it's just not the same.

  8. I think it would be better if you left the "is this offensive to certain ethnic or racial minorities in the USA" to Americans.  I am seeing a Brazilian and a Canadian arguing over whether something is offensive to some Americans.

We are pretty good at that ourselves and those of you from other countries unless you've lived in the US for awhile just don't get it and you look foolish arguing whether or not something is offensive to certain Americans.

Oh, forgive us ignorant and unworthy swines for having and expressing an opinion on your country, that was way out of line. :derpna:

  9. @@elllipsis Did you watch the 3rd generation ?

I watched all of S5 but none of S6.  :$ I don't even know why tbh... I liked most of it (and LOVED Rich's episode) but I guess I never really managed to relate to the characters as much as I did during gens 1 & 2. I never felt, idk, 'emotionally attached' (for lack of a better expression) to any of them the same way I did to Cassie, Effy or Cook, for instance.

Did you watch it? What did you think of it, in general? In your opinion how does it compare to the other 2 gens?

Please try not to spoil me though, I will watch it eventually... :P

This is an actual (and kinda huge) spoiler, so to those who haven't seen S6 yet - don't open this.

I already know that Grace dies though. :defeated:

  10. I also think this incestuous feelings were there because they didn't know how to love someone else. I mean, come on, they are much more like twins than the Fitches. Effy's basically a female Tony.

I was actually thinking that when I wrote my previous post. Their 'love' is as incestuous as it is narcissistic. They basically love eachother because they love themselves.

I'd like to find a movie dealing with incest the way it was done with the Stonems. I watched the Dreamers and ... just no.  :derpna:

I actually really loved The Dreamers. :awk: :runs:

It was uncomfortable to watch though, for sure.

  11.

@@elllipsis  Yes I'm talking about Tony and Effy.

There are so many subtext ... Like in Tony's episode in season 2, the girl is called Beth (->Elizabeth->Effy) and she wears the same underwear as Effy.

This unseen is pretty clear imo : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDEQSt0FPwQ

They looked each other in a way siblings don't ... In the very first scene I though that Effy was his girlfriend ! (and I know a lot of people did)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDE2zd-QiaQ

I always felt there was something going on between them but I just couldn't put the finger on it.

I wish Skins would have been brave enough to face it.  :crossed:

Tony's episode was basically a huge dream and the solution to his erectile problem was not viagra.  :hdu:

I see it tbh. And Skins writers would.

The fanmade videos are more manipulative than anything, as they include completely unrelated and/or decontextualized stuff just because it fits the narrative, but the Beth/Effy thing is too obvious to not be intentional. I mean, she was literally the girl of his dreams, the one he picked to guide him out of his troubles and doubts and erectile disfunction, and she had the same name as his sister, looked and dressed similarly & even acted a fair bit like her.

What was always obvious to me is that she was the only person in the world he considered his equal and truly respected, and the same happened with Effy re: Tony. So it's not hard to imagine (especially given the whole dream sequence episode) that, had she not been his sister, he would've easily fallen in love with her / wanted to be with her. I don't think it ever went beyond this though, it was never more than platonic imo.

I kinda disagree with what you said about Skins not having been brave enough to face it though; I think they did (through his dream + her mental health issues). Maybe not in a super obvious, 'foolproof' way, but it could've easily become crass and distasteful had they done it any other way imo. I also think there wasn't much else to face or do with that theme; it was something that existed and would probably never completely disappear for as long as they lived, but each of them dealt with it in a more or less conscious way (dream + therapy) & tried to move on.

  12. @@Philomene Totally agree. I'd personally pick Cook over Freddie (or Tony, tbh) any day of the week. I like my boys bad, I guess. :hooker:

My favourite episodes evaah of Skins are 1x08 and 3x10 and Tony's in season 2. Don't you think the show was full of incest subtext ?

Hmm, I don't know... I mean, there were those obvious references to it in 1x08 and it's true that Tony and Effy had a very close & kinda unique relationship, but it never felt creepy or weird to me tbh. But it's been a while since I last watched it, maybe I'm missing obvious allegories or something... Btw, are you referring to Tony & Effy only, or any other characters as well?

My fave episodes are 3x10, 4x02 & also anything involving Cassie.

And his death ... Gosh, some crazy fans wanted her to commit suicide so they could be together in heaven.

    And OMFG what?! :runs:

  13. Some of you are taking this way too far which is cool in a way. But you  to have understand that a lot of artists choose lyrics because of the way they sound and while they may have meaning they may not be biographical. In some ways her lyrics are like Bob Dylan or even S Malkmus of Pavement.

Sometimes she may just like the way they sound and may have picked up influences somewhere.

Hey, she's the one who says her lyrics are '100% autobiographical'. :hooker: And we're just taking what she says at face value because tbqh it's way more fun than the alternative. :creep:

  14. I love you then  :defeated:

Cook&Effy had a proper developpement, they had sex together a whole year basically and, feelings appeared after that. They spent time together and had fun, When everyone turned away from Effy after the Katie incident, he was the only one here for her. While Freddie always judged her and tried to change her into someone she's not; Cook accepted her the way she is. Maybe because they're so alike.

They represented what Skins is about and are both 2 iconic characters. They had so many amazing moments together, the Bonnie&Clyde journey is one of them.

Kaya and Jack had so much chemistry together, they dated IRL and Kaya said that if she wasn't so young at that time she would have married him. The scene under the pouring rain where Cook tells her he'd do everything again must have been so awkward to film.

It breaks my heart tbh to think about CE, I shipped them so hard but the writers screwed up everything.

Freffy, it felt from the very beginning that it was shoved down the throat with their ~love at first sight. S4 made it all worse with Effy's mental illness. When they isolated during Freddie's episode it felt like he was trying to keep her all for himself and they were very toxic together.

Everybody kept repeating how much Cook was bad for Effy, but it was more the opposite.

Lana's songs fit perfectly CE :

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifRq8GoL1SI

That Bonnie & Clyde episode was perfection. Except for the ending, of course. :icant:

I'm convinced that the reason they were paired as the main ~romantic couple is simply that they were the most conventionally attractive of the bunch. Also the reason why they have so many shippers imo. Because lbr, they had no substance whatsoever.

I liked Freddie & his own story, I thought he was a very relatable character; he ended up as my least fave character of that gen though, and only because of his relationship with Effy. It was incredibly contrived and made no sense; like, completely out of the blue these 2 people are suddendly madly in love with eachother?! Like you said, their relationship was never developed; they were just paired together & all of a sudden we were supposed to buy their mad, neverending love. :lanasrs:

I'll never forgive the writers for fucking up Effy/Cook the way they did. They had such great dynamic as a couple and, for instance, it would have been really interesting to see Effy deal with her mental health issues with someone like Cook by her side, imo. Idk, I just think their relationship had a lot of dramatic potential but that was completely disregarded for the sake of, what, a prettier pairing?
