Someone's interpretation of BTD (mentioned in that OURS discussion board, where someone posted its original link). It's... interesting.

It's a good look imo. Classy, but still casual. High heels would turn it into more of a night-time look.

I don't what that says about my taste, but I really *REALLY* like this.

Hey, she's the one who says her lyrics are '100% autobiographical'. And we're just taking what she says at face value because tbqh it's way more fun than the alternative.

@@Quentin Thank you for summoning me.

I love The Weeknd, I was completely blown away by House of Balloons when it came out! I loved all 3 mixtapes / Trilogy & my fave songs atm are High For This, House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls (especially the second part, like OMG!?), The Birds Part 1, XO / The Host & Kiss Land. The songs I like the least are those featuring Drake probably because I fucking hate Drake.

I also agree with Quentin, a huge part of his music's appeal is all the detail it has and most of it is lost during live performances, so they're usually kinda boring & lackluster when compared to the albums...

I don't if this has been mentioned / discussed elsewhere, and I do know it's kinda speculative, but bear with me...

Blanche Dubois. You know, of 'A Streetcar Named Desire'? I've recently re-watched the film and it got me thinking.

From Wikipedia - "(...) the former Southern belle has a lurid past (a marriage to a young homosexual who committed suicide when she discovered his secret; notorious sexual promiscuity; ongoing alcoholism, etc.) as well as genuine spiritual idealism and refinement."

Also her attraction to violent and "wrong" men / abusive relationships, the tragic death of her first love (albeit in very different circumstances), her insecurity and absolute need to be adored by everyone (especially men), and last but not least Blanche's iconic quote "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers", which Lana could be referencing in the Ride monologue as well as in Kinda Outta Luck and Carmen.

Carmen in particular sounds like it could have been at least partly inspired by her or a Blanche-like character --- Darling, darling, doesn't have a problem / Lying to herself cause her liquor's top shelf / It's alarming honestly how charming she can be / Fooling everyone, telling how she's having fun (...) Baby's all dressed up, with nowhere to go / That's the little story of the girl you know / Relying on the kindness of strangers / Tying cherry knots, smiling, doing party favours / Put your red dress on, put your lipstick on --- not to mention the little French interlude.

At the very least she's maybe a character Lana somewhat relates to / feels inspired by? I don't know, maybe it's too much of a stretch, but what do you guys think?

If one takes the whole Lolita thing at face value, I agree that it can be creepy.

But context matters. Lana is an adult woman who clearly has always liked older men (I gots a taste for men who are older / It's always been so it's no surprise) and probably enjoys a certain amount of age play, who's singing about her own experiences (real or imagined). To say that equals promoting paedophilia is just absolutely idiotic to me.

I also don't understand what's the point of these "opinion" pieces such as the article in question. They seem to assume that song lyrics' purpose in life is to promote certain lifestyles, ideals & philosophies, and that only those deemed acceptable and politically correct should be written and sung about. So... are they suggesting censorship, or...?

That article is one of the most retarded shit I've ever read. No, scratch that, skimmed over. So she likes the younger woman / older man dynamics, so fucking what? And how that tweet is even an issue I sincerely do not even know.

I think the "dark humour" thing is re: the retweet, since it's so fucking idiotic; Lana being and liking all those things doesn't make her pro-anything, she's not a walking manifesto.

I agree, but at the same I get the impression that in this case it went a bit further than that, if My Momma's lyrics are anything to go by.
  15. poetic jess liked a post in a topic by elllipsis in How do you feel about Lana's leaked songs?
I completely agree. In fact, I'd made a similar comment not long after the leaks. But I also reiterate what you said about this not excusing the leaker in any way.

2 flawless albums, plus they're fucking fabulous live!
And Kevin Parker, besides being a little genius, is an incredibly sweet & down-to-earth guy.

Probably my fave song. It is KILLER live.

Common problem with most fandoms, tbh; they simply can't deal when someone doesn't like what they like. That's what makes them so annoying.

I was actually thinking that when I wrote my previous post. Their 'love' is as incestuous as it is narcissistic. They basically love eachother because they love themselves.

I don't buy for a single second that American is about Barrie. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
Dude's white af, his skin certainly isn't 'golden brown'. He also doesn't seem like the type of guy who'd listen to Crystal Method or drives fast around LA flirting with random girls, he actually seems like the exact opposite of that.

And am I the only one who thinks Bel Air is simply about / inspired by Axl Rose? It's full of GnR references (run to heavens gates, sweet child of mine, idol of roses iconic soul) & this line - You've got a flair for the violentest kind of love anywhere out there - also fits. Besides, well, it wouldn't be the first time she wrote about him, would it?
