Yesss! I never know when it's gonna happen, but sure enough all of a sudden when listening to Born to Die I have a revelation about how beautiful and innovative it really is.

I honestly believe that BTD is gonna be one of those generation-defining albums that will get mentioned in music history books in 50+ years and I feel lucky to for once be alive and witness such a career unfold.

^true, there's not much you can say about her walking down a street. I mean, they didn't even stalk her all the way to her friend's house

I'm not saying Circus is the worst, but for me, In The Zone and Blackout are much better albums than Circus and Femme Fatale. That's just my opinion though

This or Lacrimosa (or anything in Requiem). It's such a masterpiece and that's how I'd like to be remembered.

The BTD album production is repeatitive and at some parts boring. The demos top every single album version.

I hate Dark Paradise, Diet Mountain Dew and Summertime Sadness. I just can't with them. This confession connects me to the next thing I'm about to say -

I feel like Paradise was released as an addition to BTD because BTD ain't really Lana, she IS fake in that album, like they made her mainstream and radio suitable and the "perfect depressed alternative singer" (it's kind of hard to explain with my weak English so I hope you'll understand). So when I listen to Paradise I feel like Lana is honest with me. That's one of the reasons I like Paradise MUCH better than BTD.
For example - Look at the BTD video against the Ride video. You can feel where Lana is real and where she is what her record label wants her to be.

I love black-beauty-black-hair Lana. it's more mature, and again, more HER.

Oh, and I wish Lana success because I love her but deep inside I don't want her to get famous because I have this fear that when She'll be a worldwide superstar she won't be so close to her fans and won't sign stuff after every concert etc., I still fear that every single day

That's it. I feel better now.

I mostly agree with Lorde about how mainstream music glamourize a lifestyle of opulence that is not even close of what people can afford it – and it is very sick to think that people can’t really relate to it but somehow are obsessed with this lifestyle. But I think that Lana has a very different take on this subject.

Lana sings as someone who lived a life of opulence but she doesn’t associate this with happiness - she is all about the dark side of the “American dream”. She sings “Everything I want I have: money, notoriety and Rivieras” in a song called Without You and she claims that all this “it means nothing if I can’t have you”.  Children of the Bad revolution, Carmen and National Anthem are songs that portray the tragic consequences of a life involved with opulence. Differently of a rapper who manage to sing about how life is fucking amazing now he has a new car, in her songs Lana plays the *miss America* girl who had everything  and done it all, she drove the rights cars, wore the right clothes  but she not is satisfied and found love in a doomed relationship. So I would not really include Lana as an artist who glamourize money.

Like Lorde, mostly people are really confused by Lana because she doesn’t have really a statement about this:  for some, lyrics like “money is the reason we exist” makes her a shallow girl and for others she is actually criticizing our society. It seems that nowadays either we are pro or against something, either you are the girl who sings about Hamptons or the girl who makes fun of it, there is no midterm anymore. But Lana is just someone really aware of all aspects of her own life, she doesn’t really have a massage, she is not really trying to change the game, she is just telling her story through music. That’s it.

The variety of the votes just show how she always delivers

My fave is Born To Die - It is the video that made me fall in love with her, and even after all this time, I still think that she in that throne is the best look she ever had. So damn beautiful and elegant. Plus if you watch it enough times you actually get the message of the whole thing which is a nice extra.

    Blue Jeans.

I just love everything about it. The cinematography is gorgeous imo, and both Lana & that one dude who talks way too much look very, very sexy in it.

Honourable mention for National Anthem though, which is my close 2nd; I like the concept, it's beautifully shot + it features A$AP Rocky.

I agree with you, why Lana is "controversial" is because she's not a man.

Being a feminst to me is believing women should have the freedom to do/say what they want, equal opportunities, etc without being bound to judgement or expectation because of their sex..

Like does anyone pick up on the lyrics male musicians sing about? Most of the time they are a lot more superficial than Lana. Lana sings about feelings and relationships and a lot of people relate to her...idek.

  25. Philomene liked a post in a topic by Hello Heaven in Lana, Lorde, & Feminism
I agree with this. I'd feel weird calling myself a feminist just because I want women to get equal rights to men and I find it pathetic and offensive when men say anti-feminist jokes/disagree with it or whatever because, like you said, surely all women want equal rights? I really don't see how anyone could be opposed to it, it doesn't make sense to me
I'm sure Lana would support it too even if she prefers being in a relationship where she's very submissive and is dominated by her boyfriend although I can see why Lorde and other people would be opposed to her lyrics/opinions, it shocks me sometimes tbh.
