Blue Banisters - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll

Ok did Lana put actual drugs in Dealer because I seriously grin every time it starts playing. Never have I had a reaction to a song long this before, it just makes me so happy. -
“I got guns in the summertime and horses, too” should’ve been “I got guns in my head and they won’t go.”

I'm going to willingly expose myself as the asshat I am, because after repeatedly expressing my disappointment with the album yesterday, I am happy to say that it has grown on me significantly. My top 3: Dealer Black Bathing Suit Nectar of the Gods Also, I feel this lyric SO hard: I canNOT put up with the crypto tech bros. They're exhausting. -

Beautiful has to be the worst track. That chorus is annoying and cringe. Definitely not beautiful. -

The lyrics definitely contain a lot of healing, and I think they’re the most mature of any Lana album so far. But sonically, it just feels very heavy to me. -

I think this is her saddest album to date. Queen of sadness has outdone herself in this department. I don’t see how you can sit through this whole album and not feel emotionally wrecked, whether you like it or not. The fact that it’s rainy, cold, and dark here today might not be helping. -

Nectar of the Gods is underrated. -
I appreciate someone who lists AKA and Sirens high up on the list. How do you feel given that Lana’s most recent 4 albums are your least favorites?

I don’t like the album, and I don’t want Lana to get her long-sought “approval” from the critics for songs that, imo, give up a lot of the qualities that made her music unique. A reason I’ve always loved Lana and her music is that she experimented and made something completely unique. There are some aspects/moments that are unique on this album, but overall, this feels like an album that could be sang by anyone who’s known as a singer. It’s just an album of classic/standard ballads. Compare this to AKA, BTD, UV, HM, NFR, her unreleased music, or, hell, even Sirens, which sound like nothing else around, still, to this day. Both Blue Banisters and Chemtrails are just so dull for me for this reason. There are a few songs I really connect to off of each,, and that’s it. -

On first listen, definitely my least favorite Lana album. The lyrics are her most mature though, I enjoyed how personal they were. This feels like a more mature, experienced, dramatic piano version of Sirens. I love Sirens though, can’t say the same about this… When I first started Dealer, I was like “y’all really hyped up Dealer so much just for THIS?” And then her vocals came in, and I understood. Still don’t like it overall though. Black Bathing Suit and Nectar of the Gods are really the only songs I want to replay. The distorted guitar (or voice?) in Living Legend was cool. I love when artists are experimental like that. -
nothing groundbreaking, but I love the cloudy dark skies and the "wind" scene. the last shot of her looking into the camera was also pretty stunning.

COCC - Spotify Picture Disc vs. Neil Krug Picture Disc
Venice Jesus Whore replied to Manson's topic in Lana Thoughts
To me, the horse one is a better representation of how the album sounds imo. The Neil Krug one has never matched the feel of the album for me, and it looks like a stylistic ripoff of Taylor Swift or some other pretentious indie artist (sorry, not sorry). However, I do think it's a prettier picture with the colors. but mainly: -
It's hearing day! There's a lot on the docket, including petitions to remove Jamie/her dad as conservator and to terminate the conservatorship altogether. Pray for Britney y'all! #FreeBritney

Pain is so unbelievably good. I've really liked everything I've heard from her so far.

Lately, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about if we had all of Lana’s songs from one album in the style of the songs on another one of her albums. Like imagine a song from BTD in the style of a Honeymoon song. Or a NFR song in the style of an UV song. I need it.

Objectively, very good song. The lyrics and concept are beautiful. Subjectively, just like the rest of the Blue Banisters singles so far, it sounds too musical/theatrical/drama-ish for me. Fully expecting not to care for this album. Thankful for new content either way.
