In her insta post, by “standard crew”, do you think she means her band and back up singers performed on the entire standards album with her? Omg! If so, is shaping up to be one of Lana’s best albums!

Lana’s giving us total 1930s vibes with this song and it’s all I’ve ever wanted.

.....but that’s literally what standards are. Songs become standards when they’re covered by everyone.

Been listening to this version a lot today (I know, predictable) to get me in the mood for Lana’s version. Love it. This one’s one of my favourite renditions though because it’s just so fun and cute. And like lots of people, my very favourite version is probably the Big Brother one. I’m a sucker for wailing guitar solos. I really wonder how Lana’s rendition will sound. What I love about standards is they’re almost always presented in different ways, so the possibilities really are endless.

The other day I related Lana’s current artistic schedule to the Beach Boys, but I’m realizing it’s even more similar to Joan Baez’s direction. After Joan Baez’s poetry album, Baptism, her husband was drafted and she started recording an album dedicated to him, David’s Album, in the country genre since that was his favourite music. And while she was working on it, she decided to also record a double album album of Bob Dylan covers in a country style, Any Day Now, which came out around Christmastime in 1968, the same year as the poetry album, with her other album coming out the following spring. I was just thinking about that when Lana mentioned she was working on 2 albums at the same time and I realized that maybe Joan even suggested the idea of recording covers album at the same time as Chemtrails! Also when Joan picked the Dylan songs, she put all the sheet music on the floor and closed her eyes and picked them at random and I think it’d be cool if Lana picked her songs that way, letting fate make the final decision.

I don’t have a discogs or even a specific list of albums I’m selling. I’ve got hundreds of records, so I’m more selling based on what people are interested in. If there’s anything you’re looking for specifically, ask and I might have it.

ummm in particular, ones I wouldn’t mind selling are some Charli XCX, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande, Kesha, Borns. Maybe willing to part with some LA Witch, La Luz, The Beaches, Melanie Martinez, fka Twigs if there’s interest here, but those probably won’t actually go up for sale to the public. And I might have others I’ve forgotten that I’d still be willing to part with if someone asks bc I really don’t listen to lots of my albums as much as other people would since I have so many. I could list every artist I have from this past decade since I’m trying not to be stingy about what I sell.

Are there any albums from the past decade any of you are looking for on vinyl in barely used condition? Lots of albums I’ve gotten that came out in the ‘10s I never listen to and are still in great shape, so I was thinking of maybe selling some before the holidays, so let me know if there’s anything any of you are looking for because I might have it (I don’t really have hip hop, but I’ve got lots of pop and indie). I’m putting a bunch up for sale next week, but I’m giving you guys first pick.

I like how first with all the different vinyl variations and now with the merch, Violet is having a regular era like any other album would. It deserves it.

Yesterday they probably just stocked a tiny bit to test how they’d sell and to see what was popular. They probably put in new orders with their supplier today for all the stuff that sold out right away.

I showed my husband the rose sweatshirt and he bought it for me as a Christmas present!!!

Damn I wish I could afford the rose sweatshirt, it’s so darling. I also really really like the good vibes box even though I know it’s insanely overpriced.

It’s cute and in general I wish Lana would release more 7” singles, but sadly I don’t collect singles (waste of time and energy for only 2 songs, plus they’re hard to take on and off the platter with my nails done lol). But I really hope the song does well because her voice really is so lovely on the track and if it’s successful she might feel obligated to put it on the standards album (if it isn’t already on it).

When the Beach Boys were working on Pet Sounds, their label needed an album out for the holidays, but Brian Wilson refused to rush his masterpiece, so they had to quickly put together something else. So they recorded an unplugged cover album, then brought some friends in to record talking and giggling and stuff to add to the tracks, took some pictures playing at the beach, and quickly put together “Beach Boys Party!” in time for the holidays. When Lana first mentioned the idea of “Pacific Blue”, I had brought up how I wished Lana would do something like what The Beach Boys did, but that she probably wouldn’t..... I just remembered that now and realized that now she’s doing exactly that...... freaky

The possibility of the album actually being called “American Standards and Classics” made me think how cute it would be if she went super 50s with the title and made it something like “Lana Del Rey sings Americana Favorites!”

I feel like this album will have a similar sound/vibe to Cat Power’s second cover album “Jukebox”. That one’s mostly Americana songs and it has a really nice bluesy atmosphere to it. It’d be cool if like that album, Lana also re-recorded one of her most famous songs in the style of the album and/or had a new song she wrote just for it, sandwiched between a bunch of classics, subtly inserting herself into the great american songbook and becoming a part of history.

Man it must be embarrassing posting on a site dedicated to her then. I can’t imagine your humiliation. If only there was something you could do about that....

I’ve kept making changes to that Violet vinyl sleeve because I always see room for improvement. I drew a new cover, this time a different take on the same stanza. I thought it would be less pressure if I wasn’t trying to replicate the real cover. I know I’ll likely make a new cover again too (I kinda want to get some good paints and pick a different scene from her poems to recreate). But here’s today’s changes.

most of Janis’ songs are just standards, so I can see Lana possibly doing a few songs Janis also did. If she didn’t cover Doin Time, I’d truly expect a cover of Summertime on this, but idk if she’d do it now.

I know “Get Happy” isn’t a standard, but I’d love to hear Lana cover that song, all slow and ominously.
