i'm really worried that somehow, lana's smoking will eventually have a negative effect on her voice, beauty, or health.
i wish lana and lorde were at least somewhat friendly.
i have a sex/masturbation playlist, and lana has 8/21 songs on it

let's be real: lana, chuck, barrie, and rob are probably sitting down with glasses of wine and laughing maniacally like "lmao they thought it was gonna be released yesterday"
  3. Starsx liked a post in a topic by florencewelch in What Lana song struck you first?
Self-explanatory, sort of. Not what Lana song you first heard, or the song that made you like her, but the first song you listened when you were beginning to become a fan that made you go "holy shit."

For me, it's Carmen. I don't relate to it, but I'm a writer and I related it to one of my stories. It also sort of made me think "this girl has amazing lyrics and I'm in love with her."

This topic seems really confusing to just ignore it if you don't understand it bc I'm not good at wording things.

So I've been on a bit of a kick lately. I've always loved scary stuff, anything ranging from that old library copy of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark we all read in kindergarten to The Human Centipede: First Sequence, which I watched and thoroughly enjoyed at age nine.  Obviously I've got nerves of steel, because not even Martyrs turned me off to the whole gorno thing. I thought I'd make a list of all my favourite horror movies, creepypastas, stories, etc. I've included a brief warning along with each. If you don't think you can handle one, please, please don't force yourself to read/watch it. I really don't want to upset anyone! If you've got any other ideas, I'll add them!

    Here we go~

    MY FAVOURITE GRAPHIC HORROR MOVIES:
    A Serbian Film {EXTREMELY SEXUALLY GRAPHIC; NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. MESSES PEOPLE UP.} The Human Centipede: First Sequence + The Human Centipede II: Full Sequence {Obviously the most infamous of the gorno category. The first one is rather tame, and can be watched for a good laugh; the second one has a much darker tone. May give you a queasy stomach, at the least.} Melancholie der Engel {English translation: The Angel's Melancholy. MESSED. UP.} Vile {Sexual horror is kept to a minimum here, but watching may force yourself to curl up into a ball and cry. There is a very good plot here, though.} Megan is Missing {God knows we need another movie about the ~dangers of the internet~. Still, I only watched this for the shock appeal. This movie may make you roll your eyes and grumble "Damned teenagers these days," but the last twenty minutes are gruesome.} Martyrs {Again, rather shocking. Loads of gore here.} Audition {Japanese film. Not as disgusting as people claim it is, but a good twist. Will make you cringe in pain. Sort of the Misery of Japan.} Cannibal Holocaust {THE CLASSIC OF THE CLASSICS. THE ONE THAT STARTED IT ALL. Lots of gore, nudity, and rape here. Take caution.} I Spit on Your Grave {The original is better than the remake, but it's up to you. This started the rape/revenge genre.} The Last House on the Left {Another rape/revenge flick.} Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom {I'm ashamed to say I laughed all the way through this. A testament to modern cinema.} V/H/S + V/H/S 2 {Rather good, actually. I quite enjoyed them.} Teeth {Recommended for anybody with a vagina. No, that's not me stereotyping females. Not very gory, just funny.} Karla {Based on the true story of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, a husband-and-wife serial killer and rapist duo. I found this one fascinating because it doesn't focus on the crimes as much as the aftermath and the effects. Not recommended for anybody with a fear of kidnapping or harassment.} American Psycho {Also classic. My fave on the whole list.} A Clockwork Orange {S/O to my main girl Lana.}
Right. Onto the lighter stuff. Read this in the dark by yourself for full effect. Use headphones when needed.

My Father's Long, Long Legs {Interactive horror story. NO JUMP SCARES. Very creepy.} Leftovers - {TW: mentions of eating disorder; the twist at the end made me gasp out loud.} Annie96 is typing... {Wow. One of my faves. Very creepy. No jump scares, but the screen shakes a bit.} Dr. Ramsey {Creepy stalker story.}  Betsy the Doll {TW: mentions of drug use and abuse. I was not expecting that.} Russian Sleep Experiment {Lots of body horror. Interesting if you're into case studies and things like that.} Death at 423 Stockholm Street {FUCK. WOW.} 1999 {A bit disturbing. I love it.} That's all I've got for now. Feel free to share, discuss, etc. Enjoy!

Let me try to subtlety change the subject

Lana Del Ray - indie rock/indie pop. Coney Island/Nevada desert meets Lolita aesthetic.

Born to Die and Paradise- trip hop/baroque pop. Faded Hollywood glamour aesthetic.

Ultraviolence - desert rock. 70s Laurel Canyon, stripped-down aesthetic.

    Honeymoon - ? Maybe blues/jazz fusion with a 50s New York aesthetic.

    New releases are so exciting.

  14. florencewelch liked a post in a topic by spookytanooki in To anyone who thinks Gods and Monsters was a bad song choice in Freakshow
Definitely a little messy, but here is my interpretation of the lyrics in relation to the show

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the land of Gods and Monsters

[The land of gods and monsters is literally just the world]

    I was an Angel
Living in the garden of evil

[The garden of evil represents the freakshow, and Elsa thinks that she is a star, and a normal person, living among monsters. Hence, she's an angel]

Screwed up, scared, doing anything that I needed
    Shining like a fiery beacon

[Again, Elsa thinks she's a star. She's thinks she shines brighter than anyone else, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to become a star in everyone else's eyes]

You got that medicine I need
Fame, Liquor, Love give it to me slowly

[This is about the stranger that Esmerelda speaks about. She tells Elsa that he is going to make her a star]

Put your hands on my waist, do it softly
Me and God, we don't get along so now I sing

[Her life is a mess. She isn't getting what she wants, and she believes that God has abandoned her. She, herself is a "freak" because she is missing the bottom half of her legs, as seen in the first episode. "so now I sing," could just be a transition into the chorus, but it also makes sense that she sings to prove her worth to the world, and that she isn't a freak, and that she is better than everyone else in the show]

No one's gonna take my soul away

[This line, to me, kind of seems to steer away from the rest of the song, and instead, references Edward Mordrake. He is said to come and steal the souls of carnies if anyone performs on Halloween, which Elsa decides to do by singing this song]

    I'm living like Jim Morrison

[Everybody just shut up about this line. It's one thing to change one word, but changing an entire name in the song is a bit more difficult. Additionally, it is an anachronism. Every performance in this show is an anachronism. And anachronisms have already shown up, and will continue showing up thru the entire show. For example, Pepper is a member of the freakshow 12 years before Asylum happens, which makes no sense because Pepper was living at home, and was put in the asylum for allegedly killing her sister's baby, and there is no way that could happen if she was in the freak show. Anachronism. Get used to it.]

Headed towards a messed up holiday
Motel sprees sprees and I'm singing
'Oh yeah give it to me this is heaven, what I truly
    Want'

[she wants to escape. She wants to abandon the freak show and become her own act]

    It's innocence lost
    Innocence lost

[This obviously doesn't fit in so well with the theme, but the lost innocence could be her leaving the freak show, and destroying the lives of all the other freaks]

In the land of Gods and Monsters
    I was an Angel
    Looking to get hit hard

[she knows that the freak show is a lost cause. When she is looking to get hit hard, she is talking about the pain when she realizes that she is essentially talentless next to Dot and Bette's act]

Like a groupie incognito posing as a real singer
    Life imitates art

[Pretty self-explanatory. She acts like she is famous and glamorous, but she has no actual fans or recognition]

You got that medicine I need
Dope, shoot it up, straight to the heart please

[still talking about the stranger and fame]

I don't really wanna know what's good for me

[What's good for her is to give up her dream, but that's not what she wants to hear. She is determined to be famous]

God's dead, I said 'baby that's alright with me'

[God's dead. Her fate is in her own hands]

When you talk it's like a movie and you're making me
    Crazy -
    Cause life imitates art

[i think this references herself. She wants the world to feel this way about her]

If I get a little prettier can I be your baby?
You tell me, "life isn't that hard"

[Half about the stranger, half about the world. She's asking that if she were different, could she be famous]

Idk why it matters at all. Baz Luhrmann never cared, so why should Ryan Murphy? He took inspiration from Luhrmann; putting modern songs in a period piece. If it's that bothersome, don't watch the show

she just did a (brief) Q&A via Facebook and confirmed the following:

-iTunes link for Froot 'coming soon'
-She is planning a lot of things for the album
-She 'finally did what she wanted' with this new album
-Every song is 'quite different' from the next song on the album
-The 'motherfucker' snippet is from an album song
-Bubblegum Bitch is her favourite to perform live
-She is 'friends' with Facebook again now (so we can assume she will be posting more often on there!)
-She liked a comment asking if there would be a vinyl release of the album
-Writing/recording for the album began in July 2012

Still, it's a bit different. Jim Morrison is mentioned in the lyrics, so "living like Jim Morrison" would not sense make for a 1950's setting. Aside from that Gods & Monsters would be perfect, but I guess it's a bit too close to home. The Bowie song is timeless.
