I like the swearing on Cherry, too. I think it kind of makes the song. There's something deliciously ridiculous about it, and it just works.

And though I do think hope is a really great song, lyrically, there's a couple awkward moments that should have been reconsidered. I don't mind the "shaking my ass" line because it feels warranted, and the crudeness of the phrasing is in step with the casual, honest tone of the song, but the "fucking white gown/nightgown" lines feel and sound stilted, and they bother me every time I hear the song. It's like "fucking" was added there just so that she'd have enough syllables to fit to the melody, or something. I am here for her cussing up a damned storm if she pleases, I just can't help but cringe when it sounds awkward or forced, and not like how people actually talk.

Funny enough, I think the swearing in Cherry is really on point. The whole song is not really a lyrics-heavy piece, everything from the words to the production is just super intense, sexual and melodramatic. That's what makes it such a good tune. The swearing is random but I really like it and feel like it actually adds something to the tracks vibe.

The song where I do find her use of language annoying is hope is a dangerous thing.
It's such a stripped down, intimate and beautiful track and then she sings about her "fucking white dress" and how she's "shaking her ass". It just feels out of place and kind of kills the vibe

Not basing on just "good/bad", focusing on the actual criticisms. For example, if someone hates Cherry for the swearing because it seems random, it's a sign of wee bit of media illiteracy that one wouldn't even acknowledge the satire in the song, not to mention in others... like Brooklyn Baby, where people complained about her hydroponic weed line when UV first dropped, but backed off when they realized what the hell she's doing as a musician.

Not saying someone's dumb for disliking it or disagreeing with my own, but it's kind of crazy what it implies about the criticism of the swears in it being random. That's just not true.

i disagree, i think the swearing in cherry was purposeful in a tongue in cheek way...idk how to explain it, it does add a lot to the song for me.

The font itself feels a little tonally mismatched with the very honest vibe of MAC and VB and HIADTNKJDFSNDFKJ-BDFD, but maybe instead of a comic book vibe, it's more like a vintage brochure in some seaside town? The Bronco may be for a single cover, or something, too. I'd assume the actual album cover would already be shot.

The photos of her and that guy are giving me a bit of a surfy vibe, and a little Mickey Hargitay and Jayne Mansfield, it could be cute. Definitely not what I was expecting for the album, but cute.

Not trying to contribute to like....any off-topic-ness, but I just wanna say that you're not incorrect, technically, but in the White Bread American Vernacular, which is definitely Lana's language, you say Spanish and nine times out of the ten you mean Mestizo Latinos, not Spaniards. Nationally Spanish people are largely White Europeans, anyways, so it wouldn't be a big deal if she borrowed a bit of paprika to zest herself up, or whatever. The problem is that we have the added context of Tropico with all of the cholos and her general aesthetic to know that she's aiming more for East Los Angeles.

I feel like arguing about Lana's like...problematic aspects is pointless, anyways. Nobody should be looking to a pop star for political input, because as well-intentioned as many of them are, they tend to be insulated from the working class and therefore their input is vapid as Hell in the best case. Lana's your typical upper-middle class White Neoliberal, with a touch of yoga kombucha mom. She's not really got much to add, and her interaction with the cultures of people of colour is not the greatest. Those blatantly racist lyrics are not hers, though, I think that much is obvious. She's got a lot of blind spots, sure, but she's not that kind of stupid.
