    Beautiful People; Original Meaning

Response to her notorious Guardian interview fiasco. Putting her trust into the interviewer and he takes that to his advantage and makes an extremely controversial comment into the headline. The song’s chorus details the public’s view on the situation. The verses go ultra Lana Del Rey purposely to combat the comments about her songwriting, possibly too much as she describes abuse from her lover.

“You get so mad when I complain” The public gets mad at her for saying what she had said.
“You think I’m crazy but” While they get mad, they also don’t see why she’s hurt.
“I hear them talk, they say my name” The press, critics, public talk all about her.

Then in the chorus we switch to the POV of the public.
“All these beautiful people with beautiful problems//God knows I’ve got them” Celebrites with problems that normal people face everyday, the public doesn’t recognize that celebrities can have real problems and they discard it as them being dramatic.
“She wants to die, then she should fucking try” GP’s opinion on the situation, If Lana really wants to die then she should do it instead of complaining.

Then in the bridge background vocals come in “I can tell you what I really want”, she’s going telling the GP she doesn’t really want to die, but it’s a cry for help.

I won’t get into the verses since they don’t seem to have much to do with the general message other than being sarcastic. But the original song just goes to show how deeply she was affected by the Guardian interview and how much trust she had lost in interviewers and the public’s opinion on her. Even now today she’s obviously still affected, recording every interview, being cautious about what she speaks about and never letting herself feel comfortable in interviews anymore. Fuck the Guardian guy, It makes me so so so SO angry how he claimed to be a fan and to let her wall down and completely stabbed her in the back for a headline. Even going as far as leaking the audio when she tried to save herself. I hope he’s happy his favorite artist will never ever have love for him again

Tbh i dont even care anymore, there's loads of other artists to enjoy in the meantime. I desperately want new Lana music but we just need to let her live until she's ready to release something new

I know Love is in a league of its own, bc it's one of the most hopeful songs Lana's made but. I'd love another hopeful anthem. Her 'don't worry baby' s past the last chorus, post bridge just. That's what we need more of

So you want her to do trap...without trap rappers?

She may have grown up on hip-hop, doesn't mean that a trap album isn't trend chasing.

Anyway, I want an album of 13 Beaches, Heroins, and Get Frees. Esp. if they're all personal songs.

Re: Lana being slow/not slow. It's true that her album release cycles are actually a lot quicker than most artists, but I think we get impatient very, very quickly because her "eras" are full of unfulfilled promises, lack of promotion around the album, lacklustre live performances or no live performances of the new songs, next to no videos (and when we do get them, they're recycled bits of other scrapped videos), etc. Her eras are dead on arrival. And that's not necessarily a bad thing-- that's just the type of artist Lana is. For her, the fun is in crafting the album itself. Once it drops, she pretty much stops giving a fuck and just moves on to crafting the next one, making each "era" isolated events of dropping a lead single, its video, an album, and then pretty well ending.

So, that being said, I think it's reasonable for us to be constantly pining for her to let us in on where she is at in the album creation (whether it's planning, writing, mixing, w/e), because it's pretty much the only excitement we get. I never understand why she doesn't just create documentaries for each album, because again, she hates promotion/touring but actually loves making/writing the thing, so it'd be cool if she let us in on the fun by documenting the process. It'd be awesome to watch Lana taking random voice memos to full-blown songs in the studio.

I've been a huge fan of Florence's since 2010. The first song I ever heard of hers was "Heavy In Your Arms" and 13 year old me was absolutely shook lol. When Ceremonials came out I became absolutely obsessed and that album really got me into Lungs. Lana is my favorite artist but Florence is a very close second. I feel like she has really started to come out from this really dark place she has previously been writing her songs from. With HBHBHB there was this really big shift to these more mature lyrics and themes.

With High as Hope I can hear echoes of all of Florence's previous records in songs on it, however as a whole, to me, it continues on the same track and direction as HBHBHB. I know that High as Hope will be my favorite record of 2018. I really like how kind of stripped down and minimalistic it is (well, the most stripped down and minimalistic for a Florence + The Machine record that we've heard so far lol). Its different from what she has done before but still very familiar. My favorites so far are definitely The End Of Love and Patricia.

I usually can't rank for a couple of weeks after listening, but so far:

June I didn't even expect to be that good. I love the instrumental

South London Forever: damn is Florence just a grown up Skins character? And I definitely like the second half of the song better.

Grace: it's really beautiful and not what I expected either

Patricia drew me in so much from the first second. So far it's a favourite. It has all the best elements of Florences music. Emile, bring this shit back to Lana!

100 years has the same effect on me, and that turn halfway through! Song that do that are so ageless and special. Okay this is #1 so far.

The end of love is so heart breaking. But in a way it makes me feel like everything is going to be okay? The end is so hypnotic.

No choir: wow the opening lyrics get me so hard. I'm never a fan of acapella intros except for now. I love the instrument, it sounds like a fairytale to me.

in the end, the most forgettable are probably the first 3, but I always seem to have unpopular opinions so
I think I'll definitely be listening to this album lots. Tbh, I'm more blown away than I was with lfl. And also, I think this one ties with HBHBHB, but I think I just relate to HAH more. Ceremonials will always be my Bible though

I don't mean this as any shade to Dua Lipa, but her managers are clearly pushing her harder because she's still relatively new in the game and (again, no meanness intended) has achieved nowhere near the amount of success Lana has. Her (lana's) debut is one of the longest charting albums of all fucking time. She's had 2 albums debut at #1, including her latest. She has a sound and aesthetic that's completely her own and has been able to hold on to that while still evolving. I am sure in the coming years we will see upcoming musicians (if they aren't already) citing her as an influence. She sells shows around the world to screaming fans. There are a lot of other musicians (not naming anyone because it's not that type of post) who probably sell more per album or per show or whatever, but are they really memorable? Have they really made their mark in a way where, when you hear their name, you instantly associate it with a distinctive sound that's their own and not just whatever's current at the moment? To have really made your mark in the music world as an artist, especially in the era where music careers are blossoming and dying faster than ever, is fucking impressive. Lana's doing more than just fine.

happy birthday lana!!!!!! we love you!!!!!!!!!!!

also she doesn’t look sickly or bad lmfao. her skin is pale bc she naturally is pale, but her face has a healthy flush to it and she’s not wearing any makeup and she’s giving her lashes a break from extensions bc if u wear them constantly ur lashes can fall off, also they’re literally just like makeup in that they’re optional and she doesn’t need to have fake lashes if she doesn’t want them.. honestly i’m concerned some of y’all have never seen your own mothers and sisters without makeup . and saying that lana has to wear makeup any time we see her is fucked up lmao. why don’t y’all wear makeup every time you leave the house???? that’s what she looks naturally, that’s what most women look like naturally. let her be lmfao
  17. Swan Song liked a post in a topic by May in What if Lana was real?
if everything she sang about was real i'd probably look up to her a lot more and be a lot more fascinated in her. a big part of my (and others') fascination with her during the BTD era was that we believed everything she sang about was true bc we knew nothing else about her at this point. then she kind of let go of this persona, which was disappointing.

i do find it incredible though how she literally just plucks these random stories out of thin air and pretends they're about her, you need to have a pretty wild imagination to do that and pull it off in a somewhat believable way

IDK if this is unpopular but whatever: lana remixes are the worst pop remixes by far. All her songs are so slow it just doesn’t make sense. It’s like: depressing lyric and then a heavy electronic beat. Just no

you’re basically saying you prefer her to not express herself & heritage in her music...

I’d listened to none of the singles prior to hearing the album. Nuestro Planeta is beautiful & one of the best songs on the album IMO. This album really impressed me, honestly. I only liked about half of Por Vida but I loved at least 13/15 of Isolation on first listen. ♥️
