    From Huffington Post:

Lana Del Rey doesn't always give interviews, but when she does, she makes them count.
The sultry songstress sat down with friend James Franco for V Magazine's fall issue to talk about her new album, the criticisms she faces and, of course, that infamous "anti-feminist" quote.

""The luxury we have as a younger generation is being able to figure out where we want to go from here, which is why I’ve said things like, 'I don’t focus on feminism, I focus on the future,'" she told Franco. "It’s not to say that there’s not more to do in that area. I’ve gotten to witness through history the evolution of so many movements and now I’m standing at the forefront of new technological movements."
She continued, "I’m not undermining other issues. But I feel like that’s obvious, like I shouldn’t even have to bring that up."
Of her new album, "Honeymoon," Del Rey explained, "It's the word that sums up the ultimate dream. I mean, life is a honeymoon, y'know?? Life, love, paradise, freedoms ... that's forever."
Del Rey also appears on the glossy's cover, which was shot by photographer Steven Klein and left totally unretouched. "

Funny feelings on this. It's a gorgeous, morphine-drenched waltz, but there's definitely trouble lurking underneath. (I agree re: creepy vibes, but with Lana nothing is unintentional, and I truly believe that horror is one of her unspoken influences. I can totally see her worshipping films like "Eyes Without a Face" and "Persona.")

It's just a tad TOO much like the post-WWII 40s and 50s vocal pop I learned my grandparents as a kid. Stuff like Vera Lynn, or Connie Francis, minus something truly memorable meaning or hook to cling onto. Maybe that will change for me. Bridges and outro are my highlight.

    7.5/10

SO excited for the album, though.

    Lana helped me realize:

-It's possible to be strongly influenced by past generations/their respective cultures and infuse them into the modern day rather than just appreciate them in a stale, nostalgic way as an outside observer

-Your contradictions, motives, and the assumptions people make about you don't always have to be explained or clarified. People may attribute them to your intelligence and depth of character, or just accuse you of being completely fake, but ultimately it's their issue and has nothing to do with you

-Reinventing yourself in the eyes of others is always possible, as people forget easily and their judgements are usually pretty fickle

-The classic adage that you should be careful what you wish for (I don't know if Lana 'regrets' becoming famous but it's obvious that much of it has been a huge disappointment and source of struggle for her)

-And that getting really obvious plastic surgery doesn't always make you turn out ugly.

What really sticks out to me is the strings. They have this kind of Lee Hazelwood vibe about them. The song is very simple, feathery and light. She sounds younger, too. At this point in her career, I don't expect anything new or experimental from her. She's in a very comfortable place. As much as I would love for her to take a risk with it, I know that the chances of it happening are slim. One thing I've always liked about her, especially her voice in this song, was how unintentional creepy she is. The video snippets reminded me of those homemade videos of women who go missing (also pretty interesting when you think about the Honeymoon theme) which kind of gives off the whole trouble in paradise kind of feel. My favorite moment in the song is when she croons out "cruise" and the background vocals come swooning in, and the whole "dreaming away your life" in the end.

Four full listens and I'm warming to it. Man she just keeps getting slower!  I like the fact that she's still a maverick, and her competition (whoever we think they are) are probably scratching their heads right now wondering if they need to worry (assuming they cared enough to listen). I think there is enough technically interesting stuff in this song (not to mention the vocals and emotionality) that this is not a case of the "emperor's new clothes" or more appropriately the "wool of the king". It's nowhere near a single in character, which makes it courageous. A whole album like this would make an interesting niche album (anybody remember Elvis Costello's North?), but would it commercially succeed (and in which genre)?

However, this gives me hope there will be substantial variety on the album:
    from her HM IG comment:
"... there are so many other tracks on the record, 13 others to be exact- Some with a muddy trap energy and some inspired by late-night Miles Davis drives… But I love this song because it encapsulates all of the things that come naturally to me. "

Lana definitely has a lot of weaknesses in her songwriting. Like some people have mentioned here, she uses some of the same imagery over and over again. It wouldn't be so bad if she at least varied the way she described these images, but she uses the same exact phrases ("pale moonlight", "red party dress") in a lot of songs.

But I think a lot of the criticism (especially from professional critics) towards Lana's songwriting is honestly sexist. She is unabashedly feminine and loves to use girly imagery--gardens, jewelry, makeup, dresses, big Bambi eyes, etc. A lot of her music is written off as silly and not worthy of being taken seriously because she has this image.

Meanwhile men who sing about drinking their heartbreak away at a bar with some whiskey are taken seriously.

A lot of reviews of Lana's music are condescending and even use her girly images to talk down about her music, with this attitude like, "Here's that airhead Lana Del Rey singing about twirling in a garden again."

This isn't even connected to the people who object to her music because it's anti-feminist. There's just a common attitude that Lana's music is silly. It's like people who automatically look down on Taylor Swift because they know her music is very feminine and about love. Music by "little girls" or by "silly women" is just looked down upon.

As a huge PSB fan, love everything you're saying here.
They both capture indescribable longing very well, the little details that pass us by that say so much. The lingering thoughts that won't shut off.

I'm sure they appreciate LDR, and I wouldn't be surprised if she enjoys theirs work, too. If not yet, someday. Existentialist pop demands it.

I love the way she sings the word Pleasurable
I have been a big Pet Shop Boy fan since Day 1, and Neil Tennant over the years sang words like no one else until Lana came along
Check the way he sings Vulnerable  in the same titled song
Many of the PSB songs are very dark

(one day would love a Lana / Pet Shop boy duet)

The highly literate song "being boring" is very how do you say Lanaesque in its symbolism
