The whole point of releasing a single is that it is one of the most stand out tracks of a record being pushed to the public to promote the album - so saying to give it a chance because it’ll sound better within the album doesn’t actually matter because it has failed in its job as being a single. Nobody new to Lorde’s music is going to hear SATNS and pre-order the album. A single is supposed to bring in new people, and keep existing fans excited. This has failed at both imo.

Don’t get it twisted, I totally don’t want another Pure Heroine or Melodrama, but I wanted a mature, introspective 70s/80s inspired groovy sounding album like the title track promised - not fake-deep 60s/70s folk. Lorde deserves better than to sound like she’s singing Lana’s scraps.

Hope is a Dangerous thing to have Wild at Heart and Stoned at the Nail Salon - but I have it (so tell me How to Disappear)

omg let’s not forget that Wild at Heart basically samples (interpolates?) How To Disappear.  LMFAOOOOO we need to see how many songs Jack has done with this chord progression

At this point I hope Jack will produce something for Dobby Billie Eyelash and destroy her career

I’m not sure about that ? I might be wrong, but I believe she met Dan at a party, got to talk to him about her album and they decided he would produce. It’s Paul Epworth (Adele’s main producer at the time) Interscope insisted she met, to give UV a more “single-y” song and he decided the album was already good and didn’t need one (although he helped with Black Beauty).

Anyway, I'm so excited for Mood Ring! This track wasn't it for me, but I still have high hopes for the rest of the record.

Pitchfork sort of shaded her and Jack in the review of the new single lol:

"But her swings at profundity fall short—she is stoned, after all—and the understated production feels eerily reminiscent of another Jack Antonoff joint, Lana Del Rey’s Chemtrails Over the Country Club."
