Ugh, the "Jealous Girl" intro was one for the ages! Poor baby looked flawless but scared to death and kind of frozen for the first part...like the china doll of "Without You" in fact. I loved that the band played "West Coast" but...she didn't sing it. Instrumental and then backing vocals, with her back to the audience. She seemed to visibly relax with Jon Batiste, though--that man is pure sunshine, just the most wonderful energy. I wondered what she was saying to him before the song; he was making a concerned sympathetic face like she was saying "I'm freaking out and the audio is fucked" or something. She was disturbingly convincing when she whispered "feeling super suicidal". But she started singing more strongly and freely by the end of the song. And then she went for the pole!! Their improv bit was SO GOOD and she seemed way happier then. They made it sound like "candy necklaces" were either drugs or something sexual, whew. It's all they ever wanted. When she said, "sometimes you need someone else's spirit to move with you", that was so real. She was happy after that and totally relaxed with Billie, and they were ADORABLE together! Whew, what a rollercoaster.

I feel like I’ve seen the pink-purple-orange “sunset” colorway associated with Palm Springs a lot, so it makes sense for Coachella. None of this is my taste, but… she’s ahead of my time!

I think she knew after not winning earlier in the day; I don’t mean literal spoilers, but knew in her heart. I thought so the moment I saw her outfit… this is just speculation, but I don’t think that was her planned dress. It looked to me like she chose to dress, not like the spotlight winner (which she DID dress as for the gala the night before, when she still thought she might win), but like the mysterious eccentric genius, the artists’ artist, too cool for a mainstream award but there to support her basic bee friend. I really liked Taylor bringing her on stage; that was right. Lana IS the living legend.

I'm confused but supportive! She's clearly going for a statement instead of generic big glamor evening gown. She's kind of giving young Helena Bonham Carter--quirky, dark, Victorian Gothic, absolutely in-your-face nonconforming. I dig it.

Her voice sounds amazing but Unchained Melody was the big win this week! This one is… not fully committed to a direction? I would either slow it down and make it more Lanacore, really reinterpretating it, or go all-out country like the OG. It feels like something fun she’d do around the piano with friends rather than a single. A sweet bonus track. But Unchained… my god. Deserves professional recording and a big rollout. That was a Lana culture reset right there.

Lana can definitely be a bit L.A... but who are we to love her? The video was so cute! Miles better than the interview. So who do we think she broke up with for not liking her house? I figured Jack because she said she was shocked... he seems so grungy that I wouldn't think he would care if her house was simple, but I guess not?? Edit to add: she said she's not in love, but the interviewer failed to ask the more important follow-up: are you hooking up with anyone? Who's your 2 AM booty call?
