My thoughts on this are that this album is the rawest, the most sincere, the most personal thing she has ever put out. There’s so much to relate to or to think about, whether it be family themes, trauma, love, loss, friendship, observing the world, evolving, building one’s life. It’s just so heartfelt and this is why the vast majority of us love it. In 2021, literally none of those 80 minutes existed and she managed to craft them all. It’s incredible because of how much emotion there is in every single minute of that record, it’s incredible to think all of this could have never been created and it still was. I think it’s not moving in the exact same way as her older work was, because I think what she used to do was simpler and maybe more directly impactful so it got more to the point: I think the structures were more clearly delineated, the melodies too, the lyrics were less enigmatic, there was definitely more world-building, and I miss this older style too sometimes. It’s hard to explain, but I think we can all agree she doesn’t make songs like Old Money or Dragonslayer anymore, without being able to pin down what it is exactly there used to be and there can’t be anymore. But her new music has a lot of qualities and I think more of us will be glad she took that path when the undeserved Chemtrails / Blue Banisters hate fades away. I personally hope she’s going to continue to explore whatever she feels like exploring because I’ve been satisfied with and deeply moved by all of her albums. I would also love for her to go back to her lower register, to starting electric guitars again, or to do songs that have bridges with a different chord progression than the verses (an element that used to really enrich the songs up until the Honeymoon era), but I think it’s important to realize the worth of what we got and to be thankful for it and for the unique path she has taken. There’s so much we got (including her unreleased work) and so much that we’re going to get and we can not even imagine yet.

Obsessed with your comment! Here is a 2nd live of today's Margaret performance, and I'll review it, below:
The song starts a minute in, so I timestamped it there to skip the intro. Thanx to Lana Del Rey and Jack Antonoff for the care they take setting up the audio, to give the audience a treat of a softer song, where the voices do not get lost under the buzz of plugged in instruments giving off an electronic hum . . . From the two youtube videos shot from different sides of the stage way back, Lana & Jack's voices are clear, showcasing Lana's "three octave captivating and highly emotive [voice], ranging from high notes in a girlish timbre to jazzy ornaments in her lower gesture." - Wikipedia Lana Del Rey Voice and timbre. I am discovering Jack as an artist, and appreciate his vocal here, esp. when he sings "run away like your head is on fiiiiirrrreee" and his voice trills as it trails off on his verse, he's showcasing his softer vocals.
Lana did a cute lyric change up 2nd chorus, from "like Hollywood and me" to "like Charleston and me."
    In the crescendo, Lana sings:
    The diamond on your ring
The soul that you bring to the table
The one that makes me sing
    In a minor key
'Cause when you know, you know
    When you know, you know
it's beautiful, no flaws. Lana hits those notes. What a moment!
Followed by two soft saxophones - Evan Smith & Zem Audu - for subtle and soft receding horns . . .
    They slayed!
And the audience - so cute - barely could contain themselves as Lana's fans do at her concerts, cheering in appreciation, then quieting themselves so they can take in the soft notes!
    Thank you to
    alibye77 &
Lauren Garner for the first two youtube videos.
Note about Lana's appearance: in still photos Lana looks amazing, but the videos show how the dress makes sense with the breeze blowing the ruffles and her hair worn hippie-style, long and straight.

honestly we need some more lizzy grant tea in general, i'm sure it's a lot more elusive compared to tea/information about more recent eras when lana was already famous, but i know that there's things we still don't know

This line really reminds me of Fine China

“The Earth shattered, the sky opened”

If you think about it, fine china being shattered and stuck together is basically Kintsugi. Instead of trying to protect her china (herself) from being broken, she now realises that breaking and healing is a natural part of life and often things become more beautiful after this process. Not sure if anyone’s made this connection before

just another example of lana making music just for the sake of making music and art instead of just doing what's mainstream and what will "sell"  a true artist

Thanx! Thanx for collecting and posting the audio tracks! It is as though the louder tracks lack texture . . . not a treat to the ears as much as Candy Necklace for its variety of ups and downs . .  . Appreciate this kind of discussion. I have one ongoing with a musician friend who is high up in tech understanding. There aren't many musicians I would bother to make a case for a quieter production around their vocals, because I do not listen to the pop girlies, and I wear hearing protection whenever I go out, and quit gyms to protect my ears! It isn't for me to say their offerings . . .  because to each his own . . . Here is a little live fan cam of Ann Wilson which the image is out of focus, but for once the band around her dials back to allow the star, Ann's voice, to mine the gorgeousness out of Simon Garfunkel's folk song, American Tune, which melody I recognized from a documentary about Haydn's Emperor Quartet came from Serbian folk song! The piano is too loud, but because it is only the piano which is competition to Ann's voice and louder and softer in parts, finally you could hear the artistry, the inflections.

I just want to put my 2 cents in about the quietness/muffled sound of the album. This is because Lana has gradually stopped competing in what’s called “the loudness war” in music, which is where pop music is made to be as loud as possible without distorting. This is great for streaming and shopping mall speakers and stuff because any song from any musician can play in sequence and it will all be at the same volume. Here you can see the waveforms of Born To Die, Norman, Candy Necklace and Say So by Doja Cat. See how Say So is just a solid bar of black? If Candy Necklace wanted to explode into a loud outro, it could, but Say So is entirely a loud explosion and can’t go anywhere else. It also means that in the context of an album, if Lana wants one song to get louder than all the rest as part of the emotional trajectory of the album (Grandfather), she is able to do that. In comparison to any given pop music right now, Lana’s will sound quiet and muffled because it hasn’t had the Father, the Son AND the Holy Spirit compressed and EQ’d out of it

why do people think music is just her hobby  does lana have another full time job that i’m unaware of?? her main source of income is making music and selling it. and it’s her JOB. her music was her hobby back when she was singing in bars for free while working as a waitress. her writing was a hobby when she was 12 writing poetry about autumn days and singing in choirs.
people really love to undermine her artistry, fans or not. it’s really sad because she’s a genius and one of the best writers of our time and yet again people think she’s only doing this for her fans or for the public. was she doing all this for the public when she quite literally had no fans and was recording music in studios for which she had to pay? was she slaving away for the fans when she had no fans and was a nobody? damn right she wasn’t, she’s always done it for herself, we just happen to listen to it and like it

wtf are you talking about? she's a singer, music is her job, it takes work for artists to write music, record vocals, work with producers to get the exact sound they want, and decide what gets released, she also does the occasional photoshoot or interview, also, not to mention the fact that it can take hours, days, or even months just to do one song, she shouldn't have to do anything she doesn't want to do, her job can be difficult, being famous isn't easy, but even if her job was easy or more like a hobby, she still doesn't owe anybody anything

she just released a great album. what more do you want? as far as i'm concerned that's enough. artists shouldn't have to continue to do a bunch of silly things following an album release to keep our attention. she did her part. either enjoy the album or pick up some new hobbies to occupy yourself with.

the way some people cannot wrap their head around the fact that their favorite artist is not a circus animal designed to dance and perform for them 24/7 to "keep them entertained" is truly something

i am so glad she does not listen to her "fans". some of them are truly her biggest enemies truly.

huh i missed that part of the interlude.... wait no i didn't bc that's not apart of it. who he is outside of that interlude is completely irrelevant to the album. plus i don't see people throwing fits over the problematic behaviours and opinions of some of the people lana's featured on her albums in the past.

omg I love this cover so much it's incredible AND one of the greatest music moments ever is her performance with Adam Cohen SPECIFICALLY  at 3:15. Just the way she sings "I can't keep track of each fallen robin" Has ALWAYS given me chills.

“A&W” has now officially surpassed 50 MILLION streams on Spotify.  It's Lana’s fastest solo song to achieve this milestone.
