(Speculations) Symbolism & Clues in Lust for Life Trailer
longtimeman replied to Ultra Violet's topic in Lana Thoughts
Nobody thinks that. John was killed in public by a mentally ill stranger. (And she didn't split up the Beatles, but that's another argument for another day). -

This is the best! I never thought I'd see the day where we got this level actual insight into Lana's symbolism, from somebody involved. -

I'm dumb and sleep deprived - what are we thinking this is referring to? -
New Song Title Registered: "Lust For Life" (With The Weeknd)
longtimeman replied to Sitar's topic in Latest News
Nicely spotted, but especially strange because a) Lana had nothing to do with the naming of that track, and b) the name 'Lust for Life' seems like it was picked totally at random by the person who did choose it, because it has absolutely nothing to do with the interview. -

Could be a cover/reference to Iggy Pop and David Bowie? -

The full title is 'Happy Walpurgis Night (Eclipse is Over)' -
I like all of the Bathory records up to Twilight of the Gods, including Blood On Ice, which I guess was recorded somewhere in there and remixed and messed around with later on. Although Blood Fire Death is an epic record, the vocals were still the old growly sound, and I still remember how confusing it was when Hammerheart came out, with that slow introduction to Shores in Flames, and which I loved straight away. As for Hawkwind, the early years are great, but I also really like the New Wave Psychedelic era. It's a little hard to recommend records because there are so many of them, but 25 Years On, Levitation (particularly the version with a live show as bonus) and Live 79 are all good. There's also a compilation called '77' which is great (I think most of it is from the first few volumes of the Weird Tapes series, which is pretty hard to find these days). There are a couple of Youtube channels that between them have pretty much everything by Hawkwind that you'd want to hear: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPdzTNyWwKObN7aTSD3p5XA and https://www.youtube.com/user/Robbsart/videos

I have to ask - early, black metal Bathory, or mid period epic/viking Bathory? (I'm assuming it's not late period 'Rock and Roll' Bathory). Also, if you're into Psychedelic music, definitely check out Hawkwind.

This is obviously her way of trolling the leakers and everyone who thinks they've got the exclusive 'insider knowledge' -

Can someone please list what's on the playlist? -
The line in Born To Die about 'Lost but now I'm found, ...', like the Cat Power song, is probably referencing 'Amazing Grace', which takes its imagery from the bible.

Knowing how much these magazines pay attention to what they're writing about, they would have had the same article if it was a collaboration with Ice T and Napalm Death. But I agree, it's nice to see her being talked about. -

I was out last night for a bit at a bar, only for about 5 minutes, and Love came on over the PA! I don't know if it was radio or an internal playlist, but this isn't the type of place to have a DJ or put much effort into selecting music. -
I started to write an essay on this, but remembered that nobody needs to read that, so here's the short version. Lana has a lot of songs about different types of self delusion (or, if we're being kinder, extreme overconfidence). Whether it's Carmen thinking she's made it ("Lying to herself 'cause the liquor's top shelf"); the narrator of National Anthem suddenly discovering her mojo ("I said to get real, don't you know who you're dealing with"); or the unfortunate object of Is This Happiness ("You think you're Hunter S Thompson, I think you're fucking crazy as they day's long"), the only way to succeed in the world of fame is to start by believing you've already succeeded. But, in LA, if you take this delusion too far, you end up like the central character in Mulholland Drive, living in a fantasy world. Whoever she's singing to in BAR has fallen victim to this. The title of the song echoes the idea of the Great American Novel, which a long time ago was something that authors would try to write, but now is generally used ironically as a put down about somebody who is writing a book that will never see the light of day, but who, in their own mind, is going to write "the greatest American book on American culture which could ever be written". The "You did it all for fame" is the icing on the put down cake - not only are you wasting your life, "you're not even doing it in the name of art, but just to get from all of those girls in the audience, what you could be getting from me at home". In that way, it's an extension of her put down for the guys in Video Games/Blue Jeans - she's asking them "why are you getting lost in fantasy when I'm right here?"

100% that the line is 'The Houses of the Holy', and it should be capitalized because it's a title.

Not sure if this thread's about to disappear, but the second line is 'To the Houses of the Holy'
