For me it's "Coconut & Key Lime Pie" and "Sugary Sweet". Also really anything from NFR-Ocean Blvd.

but is Lost In Translation really that depressive? wasn't it labeled as rom-com?
To me, Lost In Translation is neither depressive nor a RomCom (but especially not the latter!).
It's a thoughtful movie of two strangers crossing paths and having an impact on each other's lives. The nature of their relationship is also not completely clear and it has an open ending.
(In my view, their relationship is affectionate and special but platonic. Idk why people always have to make everything about love and sex.)
I'd recommend watching it in full. It also has an amazing soundtrack. Sofia Coppola always has good music in her movies.

Oh true
Guess my theory doesn't work then

For now the title tracks have been first and second alternately
1. BTD, HM, NFR, BB
2. UV, LFL, COCC, DYKTTATUOB
Which means the title track is the first song in the album this time
Edit: whatever, BB is 2nd too

When I listened to National Anthem the first time by watching the music video. That song and mv made me a fan and I was so mesmerized by Lana and her BTD world.

Tbh I always thought Lust For Life sounded a little too on the nose, or too "flat", whatever. It's the sister of live laugh love. White Hot Forever would have really fit Lana I think. Other than that all album titles are iconic.

Agreed. And I feel kinda bad because I still really appreciate that video.

It's more like it's missing something. It's not the length of the video - I watched Ride, Freak and Tropico a thousand times. I also love Candy Necklace and the idea behind the mv but tbh it turned out a little boring.

AKA rerelease or unreleased album could be amazing.. but if they do it badly then it will be horrific
tour; also amazing.. if she tours in your country and you can get tickets
a new album will always be good.. I’m gonna give it my vote even though it sounds less exciting and not “big” considering she’s renown for having an album lined up after just releasing one
Agree!
A.k.a re-release would have to be original recordings and artwork for me. If there'd be any new element, like re-recordings, new instrumentals or new artwork it'd ruin the entire mood.

Me and God we don't get along so now I sing /
God's dead I said baby that's alright with me
It's innocence lost
Edit: also the lyrics 'No one's gonna take my soul away' are very simple but it hits me every time I have a feeling this song is about SA but idk if you get it you get it
"No one's gonna take my soul away" has the same energy as "I am my only god now"

I have to say I listened to this song in a different way. I thought it was about a relationship. With the new visuals I have to rethink the lyrics completely.

A bit off topic but imo Marilyn was not suicidal, at least not when she died

Definitely more of a short film to me as well! I wish it would have been even longer and maybe would have included another song.
1 hour ago, barttttender said:but she gets a hollywood star in the afterlife. And the industry will keep making money off her image.
I don't think it's supposed to be the afterlife. I see it as a different reality. The death scene is a what could have happened scenario while the walk of fame scenw is reality with Lana doing well.
6 minutes ago, Pink Flamingo said:who's the second girl?
Veronice Lake. She was a famous 40s actress who died fairly young because of alcohol abuse. She was treated awfully during her career, was called a bitch etc. but today we know she was diagnosed with schizophrenia and would have needed help instead of judgement.

On 5/3/2023 at 9:04 AM, Rorman Nockwell said:I know she said she doesn't feel the need to partake in world building anymore, and of course that is her prerogative
And she really doesn't. Someone already mentioned that the younger fans have no idea about Lana's impact from 2011-15/16. She was so enigmatic and the albums and Tropico really sent you into a completely different world. It was so exciting.
To me, all of that is gone. NFR onwards aren't that exciting anymore. I listen to BTD, P, UV, HM to dive into different worlds. If I need some pleasant noise in the background while studying I might listen to the rest.
I'm not attacking Lana. I hope she is happy where she and with what she is doing is right now. But a big part of her music and lyrics nowadays just don't hold a candle to her earlier stuff. Which is also the reason why songs like TNBAR (demo though), Bartender, Yosemite, Nectar of the Gods, Living Legend and Thunder (demo though) are album peaks - they weren't written recently.

12 hours ago, irvnex said:I honestly think her "new" writing style is for her true fans, and with this I mean people who are interested in her as a whole.
The concept of "true" and "fake" fans is a bit meh in my opinion. Artists are liked for their art in the first place and not as private people. I admire Monet for being a great painter and still don't care about his private life. Does that make me a phony?
Idk nowadays it's like if you aren't interested in every meal and fart of your favorite artist you're "fake" fan.
It's interesting to know a bit about her private life and where her art comes from and I really enjoy Violet because of that. I also would have loved to get Behind The Iron Gates. But I don't need to hear it in every song, that's all.
I'm not saying she shouldn't write these lyrics, it's her choice. But that true fan/fake fan thing needs to be dropped.

someone’s mom called her and Lana said “your son is making a huge mistake/acting badly”15 hours ago, marryingkind said:Basically she’s saying that she told jimmy’s mom that he’s being an asshole lol
I really think Lana is Jimmy. Antonoff calls her that. It also connects to the second line of American Whore (I haven't seen my mother in a long long time). Someone probably said this to Lana, either as a joke or seriously, and she's quoting them.
Or maybe she's also talking to herself. She talked to her mother on the phone and knew in her mother's eyes she was "fucking up big time". Maybe Lana even agrees.
Anyway, that's how I understand the whole second part.
Other than that, this song is so deep and dark. The first half especially. It's not a "slutty revenge bop" but I already know some fans are gonna claim that. To me "It's not about having someone to love me anymore" is not about silencing the haters, it's about loneliness or giving up. Together with "When's it gonna be my turn / Don't forget me" that's such a sad thought.
