It’s time to decode what DNC means, methinks. I guess I’ll throw out some guesses (some mostly joking) just in case one of them ends up being right:

    -Dad’s Nineties Cadillac
    -Dear North Carolina
    -Dark Night Cruising
    -Driving Near Cali
    -Dreaming, Never Caring
    -Deadly Nightshade Callback (eh lol)
    -Damn-Near Crying
    -Dad Never Changed
    -Democratic National Committee (joking)

I honestly agree with that. I have been told that my dislike for 'NFR' is almost comical. But it's not that I dislike the album per say, I do find some songs to be good/great, like I appreciate songs separately (same thing with 'Lust for Life'), it's just that her album as a whole don't appeal to me as much anymore. I don't find them to be uniquely Lana, they miss that spark of oomph. Her work used to be characterized by her unique vision and lyricism, but on her past two albums it felt somewhat absent or sometimes almost satirical or that she was a parody of herself? It's definitely a combination of me getting annoyed at some of her lyricism and finding the production to either be atrocious and/or almost completely forgettable. I honestly hope that 'Chemtrails' marks her return to a more interesting soundscape and less "whatever"/random writing perspective.

Makes me wonder if she really the one writing all these lyrics.

I just feel like it's LA celebrities in particular who are in this weird bubble and they tell you they know what's going on in the world...but they really don't? There's something about lviing in that place that makes them become these insufferable privileged supreme beings. Very weird.

I'm going to boil her incoherent speech down to painkillers + morning brain fog.

Yes, she kind of implied that there is something going on in her personal life. I felt bad for her.

It is true, as a lot of you say, that she probably needs some time off. Honeymoon was one of her best eras because she was away from everything and had time for self introspection. It was hard to be a fan during those years because of her absence but she seemed renewed when she came back (artistically and as a person). If she decides to do that again we will support her, she probably needs some peace now too.

very this!! especially the part about the friends. my best friend and i used to have drunken lana nights where we'd get wasted and listen to all her music. im white and my bestie is black, and during QFTC she was already kinda side-eyeing lana really hard.... now, i know she's gonna be SUPER turned off from her just like im becoming  its even worse. so it seems drunken lana nights will be no more which im sad about! but there's no way im gonna sit there and encourage my bestie to listen to a woman who's THIS wrapped up in her white privilege that she continually makes ignorant comments.

I just listened to this, and while it had a few good moments, I can’t stop wondering if she’s doing okay. It’s either she’s on meds, or going through something.

And there are a lot of things that she said are incredibly unnecessary and actually might make the backlash even bigger.

I think she better stay away from social media and live interviews for a while. She’s just making things worse

sooo i listened to this live yesterday and slept on it, but my opinion stays the same: this interview needs to be BURIED and never talked about again lol. what a mess, she kept rambling and had such a chaotic energy, which i usually love and find cute but it didn't fit the topics that she talked about. i guess she really meant it when she put that quote in her bio:

my least favourite part was when she talked about racism and kept laughing... white privilege.
honestly though, it feels like something's off and i hope she's okay. i wonder how much longer she'll be able to keep ignoring the fact that she needs an actual PR team. i love and appreciate that she wants to be authentic and share her raw thoughts with us but at the same time, she might be slowly killing her career and i'm gonna lose a lot of respect for her. i just can't make up excuses for some of the stuff she says, she just sounds so ignorant and tone deaf, it's sickening. i mean, how was she not prepared for annie's questions? she sounded so out of touch.

on another note, she didn't seem that excited about sharing her new record with us. it might be the (deserved) criticism that she's currently facing. whatever the reason may be, she sounded like she is creatively blocked, as she mentioned she's not really working on a new album which she usually does. i'm expecting a long break after chemtrails, which i'm actually okay with! i hope she takes the time she needs to find herself creatively again.

"white dress" sounds like the most interesting song so far! i hope we get to see the video and this won't be a "cherry" situation.

i want to add one more thing about her being on meds and i think it's a very sensitive topic, which is why i'll put it in a spoiler:

I find it so bizarre how someone who's so thoughtful + insightful + well-spoken in her songs/poems is so incoherent and unintelligible in her regular conversations/social media posts. It's like songwriting is the only way she knows how to communicate. Her mind is genuinely so perplexing to me

She was so slurry and rambling on matters which were clearly not related to the questions she was asked, very suspicious. Obviously there's some bitterness from the whole drama over question for the culture (which she SHOULD feel hurt by, considering it's so triggering for her and yet she's made little progress in this department), but she was definitely off. Tell me what you think but I believe that might be because of the painkillers they gave her for her elbow ? It's very recent and like she said, it's a painful and long process. I'm like 90% sure it's the painkillers, it's the slow mix of elatedness and slurry speech.

i dont really think Lana is a racist. Being ignorant and racist imo are two different things. Racism is thinking one race is better than the other, it comes from a place of hate and needing to be supirior in terms of power, and I dont think Lana has any of that in her. she just fails to see bigger picture and gets things a bit twisted due to how ignorant and out of touch she is.
omg legit bye why are you even on a lana fan site if you want her album to bomb? go to BillieBoards and have fun luv

I just want to add, that her statement about trump was the exact statement Jay-Z made back in 2017/2018 and it is funny af people wanna try to make that a talking point as if she messed up saying what she said when she spilled tea.

i dont think lana is all mentally there. like she says shes crazy all the time and im starting to genuinely believe her. she's not coming from a place of hate, she has a really good heart and good intentions, shes just kinda ignorant. no one is perfect especially celebrities and our culture makes us think they are. Lana is a singer who makes music, shes not a moral compass or political speaker, looking at her for stuff like that is just silly. if you take this kind of stuff with a grain of salt and just humorous, and just enjoy her music, youll enjoy her much more!

Didn't she just say in that same interview that when things are good at home everything else goes right and the same goes when things are bad? And afterwards she mentions how she's been surrounded by controversy lately. To me she kind of wanted to imply that not everything's ok in her personal life (please tell me if I misunderstood).
Also don't you guys think she used to be way more well spoken in interviews? Maybe she was nervous but I felt bad for her.
Regarding her constant comments about racism, it really is an awful thing to be accused of something you're not/didn't do.

veryyyyy this!! she is a grown 35 y/o woman - she shouldn't require an army of fans to decode and un-twist her words on her behalf. she needs to think more! more thinking, MUCH more listening, and occasionally... less talking PLEASE LANA

normalise saying "im not really sure how to word my point right now given the time constraints or the restrictions of my on-the-spot articulation abilities" so that people like lana don't show their asses like this constantly ?

what i think lana might have been trying to say:
"Climate change is a really big issue, just like capitalism - but having Trump in office really brought to the forefront of the public consciousness the ways that narcissism and sociopathy allow these issues to continue and develop. We should pay attention to the ills of climate change and the effects of a capitalistic society, but when we are giving massive amounts of power to individuals we should also inspect those individuals for displays of narcissism and sociopathy - how can we expect someone to heal communities or an entire country if they are narcissists that only think of themselves, or sociopaths that have no remorse for their actions?"

what lana came across as saying to someone who is not a fan:
"As a privileged rich white woman who has shown time and time again that she is ignorant and certainly that she cannot take constructive criticism - hence the fact that I spent half of this interview trying to prove how totally not racist I am - I am dismissing the issue of climate change and pinning the terrifyingly catastrophic state of the world on some abstract strain of ~narcissism~ because I care more about making a fake deep point and providing an enticing pseudo-philiosphical headline and soundbite than being responsible with my platform. This will likely cause uproar and I know it. I do not care to find out why this will upset people."

what i think lana might have been trying to say, part two:
"The madness of Trump really emboldened a lot of very bad people. As bad as his presidency was, the one thing we can take away from it is that it exposed a lot of people for who they really are - some famous people, some acquaintances, some people we may even have been close to. Having Trump in office made these people feel free to be as racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic and xenophobic as they wanted to be, because he did the same. This isn't good, but it proves that we still have a very long way to go and a very hard battle to fight. I'm glad we had more of a spotlight on social justice, but it's a shame it came around because of someone as evil as Trump taking office."

what lana came across as saying to someone who is not a fan, part two:
"Trump's presidency was terrible. He is responsible for thousands of deaths - some due to his poor handling of COVID, some due to hate crimes that he emboldened his followers and supporters to carry out, some due to police brutality that he did absolutely nothing to tackle and in many cases encouraged, some due to the absolute poverty many Americans are living in, some due to stress-related organ failures as many American citizens work themselves quite literally to death. He is a fascist. He is an alleged rapist. He is awful. He has inspired hatred in thousands, if not millions, of Americans. However, literally none of this will ever affect me as I live in my bubble of LA millionaire privilege. Because of this, I will say that his presidency 'had to happen'. How else would my rich valley girl eyes have been opened if not for a literal fascist becoming President leading to the deaths of thousands of people? It means nothing to me that marginalised people have been living this reality since before he even ran for President. Thank goodness he came into power so that I and my matcha tea IG baddie friends could learn just a little bit about the real world. Yep, it totally had to happen!!! "

Now, let me be very very clear - I'm not saying this is entirely how her words came across to me. I'm just trying to put across extreme examples of how her words might seem to people that don't know her better - especially given the current social climate, where things are so hard for everybody and Trump has a hell of a lot to answer for. It is extremely fair for people to be mad over what she said, whether they are fans, non-fans, members of the general public, or even haters tbh. Lana is an extremely privileged woman who has had the luxury of ignorance (something she's displayed a lot of recently) while people are really really suffering. People are angry and are turning on the idea of celebrities in general tbh - so naturally many people are going to react to the absolutely ignorant words of a millionaire white lady with some level of hostility because people are going through hell, and hearing the words "it had to happen" regarding Trump's presidency - something that has destroyed the lives of a ridiculous number of people, as well as enabled hate crime and violence in the streets and in the Capitol - is going to trigger something in a lot of people.

Nobody has to be perfect. Hell, I don't think anyone can be! But there is a lot to be said for sensitivity and solidarity. No matter how deep and profound your potentially-controversial thought might be in your brain, if you're someone in Lana's position and you're on a huge platform on live radio with thousands listening and you can't word it without it coming across as insulting to the average working class person while on the spot..... maybe save it for when you can really articulate it and give it the nuance it deserves. That way, you're less likely to hurt people and more likely to be understood and potentially put a really necessary perspective out there! Who knows.

Also, about that "out of context" headline - the context really doesn't make it much better. Please don't harass the writer of the article. She said those words, they didn't lie about her. Clickbait is a given in journalism now sadly. Context or no context, people are gonna be furious with what Lana said. The headline isn't a good look but again, it's a direct quote from her so... yknow.

The fact that they apparently where on a video call, imagine being Annie Mac and trying to keep a straight face while talking at her "mmh", "yeah, sure", "that's right", and at the same time trying to decipher what the hell was the idea she was trying to create in her head. Definetly a special interview.
  23. braindamage liked a post in a topic by DCooper in BBC Radio 1 Annie Mac COCC Premiere Jan 11th 2021
Okay this interview was obviously a mess and she sounded all over the place, but I also think she made a lot of reasonable points that people will take out of context. The only really cringey parts where when she brought up race again, I don't know why she keeps doing that. We know she's not racist so she needs to stop overly explaining that she's not because the general public won't take the time to understand her and she's gonna get thoroughly dragged. What she was saying about Trump's delusions of grandeur, and how the people storming the capitol think that they're a part of a revolution and they have so much disassociated rage were really interesting. She is also right that Trump didn't cause all of this, it's been brewing forever. He did of course encourage it to come out in people. I also agree with her that self-obsession is such a huge problem and it contributes greatly to the climate crisis and the horrors of capitalism. I don't think she was implying that narcissism is worse than climate change or capitalism, but rather a cause of these things and should be viewed as seriously.

I really do hope she's okay, and also think the title track offered some insight to how she's feeling. In the song it's like she's asking us to let her be, because in the grand scheme of things she's doing nothing wrong and is tired of being judged for being who she is. Lana will always be misunderstood and even if it's often her own doing, that doesn't mean she deserves the aggressive hate that gets thrown at her.

Thankfully, her art is way too powerful for any of these controversies to ruin her reputation. In the future, as people continue to evaluate her contributions to music without the bias of her drama, it will be very clear that she's an icon.

she truly set herself up with this one. i still can't believe she disregarded the entire point of the interview, questions about the album, to make a political statement that nobody needed. on one hand trump's presidency did open the eyes of many people of the younger generation on social issues in the world but on a wider scale dismissing everything else wrong going on in america is not the way to go about that especially considering the current political climate doesn't affect her in the slightest as she has no idea of the harsh reality capitalism and climate change truly affect the working and lower class. her new "woke" personality that she now has in retaliation to the criticism at "question for the culture", i assume, is just embarrassing and she should really collect herself before she ends up saying something she'll never be able to bounce back from.

I appreciate what she said about Narcissism and Psychopathy being the biggest problem in the world, but I wish she worded it as "it's also the root of the Climate Change and Capitalism issue" instead of sounding like she's dismissing those huge problems. Everything was so poorly worded. She used to be really good with words wtf.
    All of this!!!!
