Wow, lots of Lorde hate around here... guess I'll just have to agree to disagree with the lot of you.

I was listening to "American" on the way home today, and in that song, you can hear that same smile when she gets to the line, in the second verse, "Honey put on that party dress." Specifically, the last 2 words. When a person smiles while they're singing, you can hear a change in their tone, and I'm sure that's what we're hearing both at that point and in "Old Money," at the point you were referring to.

I noticed that too! Makes perfect sense.

Weird Al has been around since the late 1970s. His first parody song, "My Bologna," aired on the Dr. Demento radio show in 1979.

Yeah, that was one I had in mind as well. "Dark Paradise" could be worked in as well. I was envisioning it starting off with "Blue Jeans."

Wow, just RAIN on my parade, why don't you... All I can do is send a suggestion to him via Twitter or maybe through his web site. I'm not expecting that anything will actually HAPPEN, but I can dream, right? But I still think it would be rather cool, and funny, if he actually did it.

He doesn't parody artists that he feels are nuisances. Sometimes, he will point out certain traits about an artist in a parody that some may consider a nuisance (like Lady Gaga in "Perform This Way," for example). But he does his parodies based on a song's popularity. After all, why parody a song that no one has heard of? Most artists consider it a compliment when Weird Al parodies them, because they know they've made it big. (Lorde, for example, was ecstatic when Al's label contacted hers about making the parody song "Foil.")

First chord is C# minor, then F# major. He goes back and forth between those two, and then after a couple of measures, he goes C# minor, B major, F# major. When Lana first starts singing (not actual words), her notes are E, D#, A#, then E, D#, C#. Then it varies after that.

I don't know if this was the first time it was performed live, but she included it in her set during the iTunes Festival in 2012. At that time, it would have been a new song, since it was part of the Paradise EP, which came out in November 2012.

I'd be very happy to hear some UV stuff, but I'm also hoping to hear some of her BTD/Paradise songs as well, since I love those albums so much. I'm sure it'll be a mix of both, plus perhaps a cover or two.

    OMG that's funny!

It's actually "I grew up on..." rather than "I was into..." But it's kind of interesting how Lana pronounces certain words when she sings. In that line you just quoted, she loses the "h" in "hop hop," so it comes out "You were kinda punk rock, I grew up on ip hop..."

She also tends to say "Wit" instead of "With." Video Games: "Heaven is a place on earth wit you." Ride: "I've been trying to hard / wit one pretty song."

Maybe it was subconscious inspiration? Perhaps she heard the Romeo & Juliet melody at some point, and then when she was writing "Old Money," the theme came to her on a subconscious level.

Just got my tickets for the Friday show! Was a much better experience with Ticketfly than with Adventures In Wonderland. No slowness on the site, and got tickets right away. Stoked!!!

Pretty much, with an occasional cover or UV track thrown in. So far, I think the only UV tracks she's performed at concerts are "West Coast" and "Ultraviolence." (Has she done others?) I'd love to see her perform some of the lesser-known tracks from BTD, like "Lucky Ones." She's done "Radio" a few times, and occasionally does "Dark Paradise." I also haven't heard her perform "Blue Velvet" from Paradise very often, though it's a more common one. I'd love to hear "Old Money" from UV, too. She sang part of it a cappella once, but that's the only time I'm aware of.

First song I heard was "Once Upon a Dream" when we were watching Maleficent at the end of May. I had no idea who Lana Del Rey was at that time; I had only heard her name because I had recently (in April) become a fan of Lorde after hearing "Team" on the radio a lot, and had seen a lot of comparisons between Lorde and Lana Del Rey, Grimes, and Sky Ferreira. I didn't know who any of them were and didn't care at the time, but then after hearing "Once Upon a Dream," I realized that I really liked Lana's voice and wanted to learn more about her. (I also understood the comparisons between LDR and Lorde, since they have a similar vocal range.) I started searching Google and YouTube, and the first song I heard on YT was "Summertime Sadness." After that, I was totally in love and, like @@Anthem, listened to pretty much nothing but LDR for the next couple of months. I bought a few songs from Born To Die, and eventually just bought the entire album (I got the Paradise Edition, since it was this year). I also bought a few Ultraviolence songs, and then just bought the whole album (so I could have the insert).

True, though in that case, I would've interpreted it as in "red, white, and blue," meaning the Flag, is in the sky.

I'm sure these "mistakes" are intentional. Some are probably meant for rhyming purposes. For example, in "Lucky Ones," the lyric "Could it be, you and me are the lucky ones" rhymes better than "Could it be, you and I..." She also sometimes changes syllables... for example, in "Video Games," she turns "only" into a 3-syllable word: "On-a-ly worth living if somebody..."

I'm not faulting her for this; I just find it somewhat amusing. The first time she was asked to sing "Young and Beautiful" live in Luxembourg, she said "We haven't sang that one live yet." Should've been "We haven't SUNG..."

    I get what you're saying.

But the NA chorus is different, she's not saying that red, white and blue ARE on the sky, she's just saying that the flag shares it's blue with the sky, so it wouldn't be a grammatical error since blue is the only color from the flag in the sky.

Personally I love these little mistakes in her writing such as 'bestest friend'. They add so much character to the lyrics and charm to the songs, as if written by a girl in her teen years...

    Here are mine:

From Born To Die: Tie between "Radio" and "Lucky Ones"

    From Paradise: "American"

From Ultraviolence: Tie between "Old Money" and "Is This Happiness," although since ITH is a bonus track, if we're not including bonus tracks, then it'd have to be "Old Money."
