In My Country Feelings
I'm puffing on my porch swing, watching the sunset
But I'm seeing wildflowers blooming
Could it be that I fell for another no-good cowboy?
I'm weeping while I'm wrangling
Making hay while I'm raking in that sweet money
Sipping on my jug of moonshine
'Cause I fell for another cowboy
Get that campfire smoke out of my space
You've been squandering my time
While you're rustlin' what's rightfully mine with the things that you're doing
Herd that herd, well, now they all know your name
And there's no lassoing back from the range where you came
Darlin', don't do it
'Cause you got me in my country feelings
(Got me feeling so much right now)
Muttering in my sleep again
(I'm making no sense at all)
Mumbling while I'm yelling
(Got me feeling so crazy right now)
Who's ropin' like this cowgirl? Who's freer than me?
You wanna ride the range? Be my guest, baby
I'm feeling all my darn feelings
I'm smoking on my saddle
This town, and you best believe it, honey
I'm giggling as I'm rounding up varmints
And jotting down names
I'm tearing up while I'm taming
In the dust, they can hear me claiming
If you were me, and I was you
I'd mosey outta my way
Get that campfire smoke out of my space
You've been wasting my time while you're cattle rustlin'
Well, you know what you're doing
Herd that herd, well, now they all know your name
And there's no riding back from the trail where you came
Darlin', don't do it
'Cause you got me in my country feelings
(Got me feeling so much right now)
Muttering in my sleep again
(I'm making no sense at all)
Mumbling while I'm yelling
(Got me feeling so crazy right now)
Who's ropin' like this cowgirl? Who's freer than me?
You wanna ride the trail? Be my guest, baby
I'm feeling all my darn feelings
Got me out on the prairie right now
Making no sense at all
Got me out on the prairie right now, against the fence
Got me feeling so blue
Making no sense at all
Gotta giddy up right now
'Cause you got me in my country feelings
(Got me feeling so much right now)
Muttering in my sleep again
(I'm making no sense at all)
Mumbling while I'm yelling
(Got me feeling so crazy right now)
Who's ropin' like this cowgirl? Who's freer than me?
You wanna ride the trail? Be my guest, baby
I'm feeling all my darn feelings

High by the Countryside
High-igh-igh-igh
High-igh-igh-igh
Hey there, y'all, gazing my way
I reckon you sense what's in my heart
Loving you is tough, staying here's tougher
You take the reins, play your part
Don't wanna tread this path no more
Feels like some wild dream
I can't make it through
If this is all it seems
All I aim to do is get high by the creek
Get high by the creek, get high
All I aim to do is get by by the creek
Get by, darlin', darlin', bye bye
The truth is I never fell for your sweet talk
When you praised me, honey, 'cause I know that
All I wanted to do was get high by the creek
Get high, darlin', darlin', bye bye
Hey there, y'all, staring my way
I know you just can't grasp
You might be a tough hombre
But that don't make you a man
Now you're just another headache I bear
'Cause you went too far, too fast
We won't make it through
We're sinking in the clay
All I aim to do is get high by the creek
Get high by the creek, get high
All I aim to do is get by by the creek
Get by darlin', darlin', bye bye
The truth is I never fell for your sweet talk
When you praised me, honey, 'cause I know that
All I wanted to do was get high by the creek
Get high, darlin', darlin', bye bye
Lights, camera, action
I'll do it on my own
Don't need your money, money
To get me what I want
Lights, camera, action
I'll do it on my own
Don't need your money, money
To get me what I want
All I aim to do is get high by the creek
Get high by the creek, get high
All I aim to do is get by by the creek
Get by darlin', darlin', bye bye
The truth is I never fell for your sweet talk
When you praised me, honey, 'cause I know that
All I wanted to do was get high by the creek
Get high, darlin', darlin', bye bye
High-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh
High-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh
High-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh
High-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh-igh
Anyone can start anew
Not with love, but with retribution
Through the flames, we're reborn
Peace through payback, ends the storm
(High-igh-igh-igh)

Happiness is a Chevy ride
Try to drive it like every night
It escapes from the farm into moonlight
Every day is a bluegrass song
I hum it in the truck like all day long
And sing it with the crickets from dusk to dawn
Oh Oh If he's a serial farmer, then what's the worst
That could happen to the girl who's already bailed? -

My baby used to dance underneath my agriculture
To the Houses of them Holy, chewin' on them pieces of hay
My baby used to dance underneath my agriculture
He was rural as heck
He was rural as heck
And we were so obsessed with cultivating the next best American crop
That we farmed the fields 'til the time we got to bed
'Cause we knew we could
We were so obsessed with cultivating the next best American crop
'Cause we were just that good
We were just that good
Whatever's for supper tonight
I just wanna eat some stew
The barn is hot tonight
I'm taking off my muddy shoes
You made me feel like
There's something that I never knew
I wanted
We play the banjo and the mouth organ too

Credit to @ts2003 for the idea.
In honor of Lana's next album being country, I thought this would be a fun way to pass the time (5 months feels like forever). It could also help those who can't visualize a country Lana song.
How to play: Pick a Lana verse or two from any song, released or not, and change the lyrics to make it sound country. You can also do tracklists and album titles

thinking about the singers who might not be conventionally pretty or attractive really creating a world with their powerful singing, but not being able to get a platform cus of how they look.

I almost pointed this lyric out too, but figured it could be a stretch, though it could be a double meaning - Mobile, AL & Mobil the chain of gas stations. Of course in a later version she changed the lyric to Citgo, a different gas station chain. It is interesting though that the lyric comes from a demo of Hundred Dollar Bill!
Perhaps her relationship with Billy led to her affinity for gas stations.. because if you think about it, where else is there to hang around at during a late night drive through Alabama except for a gas station? & you would certainly need to stop and fill up during a long drive…
Also while on the topic of LDRAKALG songs that may have been inspired by Billy and their Alabama nighttime drives - Mobile, AL is right by the border of southern Mississippi, and she references being picked up in a truck in Raise Me Up (Mississippi South) Perhaps they would drive through that area as well during their late night drives.
Lots to unpack & theorise with this! x

Best American Record and Unidentified Flying Bill both talk about Bill
these lyrics really give Loved You Then and Now, I wonder if it’s about Bill, too

Wait......
Ruby Tuesdays or Mobile
I love you then and I always will
I love your ultraviolence, I love your ultraviolence
Lana could be lying out of her teeth for fun like how she used to tell people she was born in a trailer in Alabama and raised by her grandma but I will ignore that for the sake of the lore

I’ve been meaning to make this post here for awhile, but recent discussion about Lana’s Alabama days in another thread have reminded me to finally share it!
For years, there has been speculation if Lana really ever lived in Alabama, as claimed on her old MySpace pages and referenced in some of her songs. When I saw Lana’s show in Alabama last September, I spoke to a fan who had met her in Florence earlier than summer and asked her if she really had lived in Alabama. She also recorded a video of her conversation with Lana, so she played that for me too so I could listen (the video was just of the ground, but you could hear Lana speaking.)
When asked if she had once lived in Alabama as per the rumours, Lana said that when she was younger she had a boyfriend named Billy who lived in Mobile, Alabama. She said the relationship was short-lived but was “the most fun (she) had ever had.” She said he would pick her up in his truck and they would go on late night drives around Mobile.
So, not only does this confirm that she really did spend time in Alabama, but also confirms the existence of Billy/Bill which had also been up for debate for many years! Some theorised this was a placeholder name, a made up character, or a real person we just didn’t know much about.
So, we can assume that songs that mention Alabama or Billy drew inspiration from the same time period.
Perhaps the most direct example we have of this is in Driving In Cars With Boys:
“Mommy's Mercedes or Billy's pickup truck, come home late at night and baby picks me up. Tell him, ‘Just drive on and don't ever stop. Don't take me home again, take me to a new land’”
That’s about all that I know, but it’s interesting that we can now finally confirm a few more references in her older songs! x

I’ve always associated the burnt coffee lyric with the AA given how crappy coffee is always served there. A couple lines back she talks about ‘church basement romances’ which is usually where the meetings take place. I also read a New Yorker article a few years ago discussing the NYC ‘Bowery bums’ which from my recollection was an area in New York that was notorious for drinking in the 70’s which aligns with that entire verse. Interesting stuff, the father son and Holy Spirit triad could also be tied in there too given her religious upbringing. Honestly it’s all up for interpretation though!

If Lana kept LFL's original "witchy" / mysterious vibe, the album would've been 100x better.
