    1. tell me about coming up in the brooklyn music scene and the lizzy grant years? how formative was this to you as an artist?
    2. with the early reception of your career being so polarizing did you know you were creating a clear shift in the musical landscape or were you fearful of never being understood?

    4. tunnel seems to be your most personal album yet what made you feel ready to share something this vulnerable with us?
    5. why do you think you are so able to blend the pain of being alive in america today with a romanticism of americana past so easily? what inspires you today musically and lyrically?

The more likely answer is that blue is just a nice colour. It's sad, it's related to old american music, and it's the colour of the sea which she also loves using as a symbol

Theory for who Jim and Bill are

I do think Lana uses these names for multiple people but I believe the OG versions of Jim and Bill are Mikey Martin (Jim) and Rob Dubuss (Bill)

    Mikey Martin

In a 2006 post by someone named Dalene, she claims that Mikey Martin is an extremely abusive person who has relations with Lizzy Grant... obviously it lines up with abuse Lana said she has faced by someone named Jim (Ultraviolence, Beauty Player, Hundred Dollar Bill, Smarty, etc.)

    TW: heavy claims

    Rob Dubuss

There's not much on him, but he comes to mind with Bill because him and Mikey were friends and they worked together during shows

The main reason I think they would have been Bill and Jim is because of this interview where Lizzy says she drives around with Bill and Jim going to 7/11's
I would assume she used these name to protect their privacy, but there's really no one else who would have been friends enough to drive around together with Lana, besides Jimmy Gnecco and Reeve Carney who were also all friends, but there's no claims of Jimmy or Reeve being abusive so that theory sorta falls flat...

Lana allegedly dated both of them in 2006, staying friends with Rob and could maybe explain the song Get Drunk, as well as a couple lyrics in it...

"I am sleeping with your best friend
How do you like me now"

Rob and Mikey both dating Lana right after each other
    -
    "Come on, get drunk
    You know you wanna
    I am and you can
Won't tell no one about it"

Rob, Mikey, and Lana were all apart of a group called "ROAD RECOVERY" comprised of entertainment industry professionals whose lives have been touched by addiction and other adversities and now wish to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Road Recovery hosted many benefit concerts where Lizzy also played at a couple times with Tim Barr as said in this interview https://www.theaquarian.com/2014/05/21/an-interview-with-silverbird-dancing-with-the-spirits/
It seems like these lyrics seem to be Lana telling Mikey or Rob who were in recovery to drink with her in secret.

    I think thats all...

It's kind of crazy to me how many Lana fans don't realize that Joan is a music legend  Maybe I'm just pretentious or whatever, but she really paved the way for so many women in the industry including Lana. It's insane to me how many Lana fans are completely unaware of her and are so willing to reduce her to "old grandma flop" because they don't know anything about her or her music

I mean as she should it's Joan Baez, she's an icon  do some research and you'll see how untrue that is, especially her activism during the Civil Rights movement.

I did some snooping too! Chris is Aaron's brother - I found their mom on Facebook and she has a photo of Aaron from a golf tournament they do every year in his name. <3

exactly! even before then, she was always an adidas girl
it's a bit crazy to see her wearing nike. but that's billie's collab with nike so it might be just an exception

I also wonder if this is all related to Kill Kill, especially because it was originally titled “The Ocean” and she has that line in the demo that goes:
“Fresh from the shore, blond hair is wide
    The ocean makes me cry”

this paragraph, specifically the line "pulled me up by my waist" really makes me think of the "waist deep in icy waves" thingy.

i don't know if lana genuinely has a song with that specific title in the attic....but it could very much be about that experience of hers...getting pulled up by her waist after drowning herself in this cold cold water. what a thing to experience, especially for a child.

I think Dark Paradise and Fingertips are connected, and she has been talking about her su*cide attempt in the ocean:

"All my friends tell me I should move on
I'm lying in the ocean, singing your song
...I wish I was dead (dead, like you)"

"When I was fifteen, naked, next-door neighbors did a drive-by
Pulled me up by my waist, long hair to the beach side
I wanted to go out like you, swim with the fishes"

On these following lines she is talking about a rebirth, as she was saved from the ocean and became a star she is today; like the goddess Aphrodite was born from the sea:

"Let it crash over me like the waves in the sea
Call me Aphrodite as they bow down to me"
