I feel like we haven't talked about this enough, and it's totally speculative but this is the LDR9 meltdown thread after all so who cares. Do we think Lana will tour again? Even if it is a few shows here and there on the west coast or even a full tour like LATTM? I know with Covid and everything the last two years have been really iffy for live performance planning but now it seems like a lot of artists are falling back into the groove. Given that, what are the lipsters thinking on this one?

We do know that she said she did appreciate the times she was able to perform with Nikki Lane and was genuinely enjoying performing for an audience even if it was a much smaller audience than her usual shows. We also know that the tour page on her website had been altered in some way even though we don't quite know how yet given the new website rollout is still a black screen.

I personally think we might be able to look forward to at least a few west coast shows and even a few major cities, given the way this rollout feels so much different than COCC and BB especially. Obviously nothing is for certain and maybe I'm just being ignorantly hopeful but I really do feel like if this era continues to give the way it has been the last few days we might actually be fed.

I disagree. I didn't give Honeymoon a chance because it was an underdog. I thought it was the least popular for a reason, then I fell in love with the music, the ambient, the vibe not looking at the numbers. Honeymoon may be the least mainstream album but it's still one of the faves among fans, all of the Lana fans I know irl absolutely love Honeymoon. Yeah, it reminds me of Artpop because it was quality underappreciated music but because the previous album (Born This Way and Ultraviolence) were such an edgy iconic moments, the following albums looked like a downgrade or fans weren't ready yet for a different era.

while i’m here. Video Games is one of lana’s most boring and uninterested songs. it’s cool that it’s what made her breakthrough, but i think the reason for that is that any other talented artist could write and sing Video Games, it doesn’t really stand out. in my opinion it’s the only songs in her discography that someone else could pull off, maybe Love Song too. i forget that it exists sometimes and i’m pretty sure i’ve skipped it every time i’ve listened to Born to Die for the last 5 or 6 years

ik this is the unpopular opinion thread so i’m not coming for your unpopular opinion but 😭 i wouldn’t say that lana’s poetry is a side project; if anything it’s her true passion project because she’s always said that she considers herself to be a poet before a musician, before a songwriter, before a performer, etc etc. she’s a poet first in her own eyes and within the context of her own art

    What a masterpiece of songwriting.

But I lost myself when I lost you
But I still got jazz when I've got those blues
And I lost myself when I lost you
And I still get trashed, darling, when I hear your tunes

Was just listening to Your Girl and realized how similar some of the lyrics are between it and The Blackest Day. The Blackest Day is almost like an evolved completely reworked Your Girl, wow. She really has created such a rich and interconnected universe with her music, no contemporaries can compete.  Another perfect opportunity to add how prolific she is, we are blessed.

Now that I’ve been sitting here thinking about this for a bit I’m 99% sure I’ve made this connection before but forgot since I haven’t listened to YG in so long. Either way love the Lanaverse!

I've been getting my euro dance pop EDM trashy bimbo fix from that album cause I can't keep listening 2000s dance hits over and over, it makes me feel like a middle aged person who primarily listens to 80s hits.

High By The Beach is one of her worst songs and such an awful introduction to Honeymoon. It sounds like a parody of herself. It's super generic and the only people who love that song are the same ones who think that Born To Die and Summertime Sadness are hee best songs. The video sucks too.

Since the year is coming to an end, I thought it might be fun for us to reflect on the albums released the year. I was originally going to have this be a favorite/least favorite album thread, but I have a hard time ranking some of the albums, and I think having a more nuanced discussion will be more interesting anyways.
My favorite albums (I already know I'm going to be judged hard for some of these, but they're the ones I loved and found myself going back to the most):
Dirt Femme - Tove Lo Slut Pop - Kim Petras Call me a tasteless trashy gay all you want, but this album is everything I've been missing in pop music since the early 2010s ended: oversexualized bad bitch EDM anthems Honestly, Nevermind - Drake CAPRISONGS - FKA twigs CRASH - Charli XCX (How was this 2022?) The Hardest Part - Noah Cyrus My biggest disappointment
Dawn FM by The Weeknd After Hours was my favorite album of 2020, so I was really looking forward to his follow-up, but Dawn FM didn't really click with me. I liked quite a few songs, but others I couldn't even tell whether I liked them or not. While an insanely impressive production, I just didn't connect with it. And while the Jim Carrey interludes were cool and helpful in building the storyline, I found them very annoying when I just wanted to listen to music. Mixed Feelings:
Renaissance - Beyonce Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers - Kendrick Lamar Listen... I loved this album on first listen, but I found it to be too big and too heavy to take in. It's an hour and 13 minutes long, and some of the songs are just very heavy. Every time I try to listen to it, I get about halfway and can't make it farther. We Cry Together just DRAINS me. I feel like I only processed like 5% of this album there's so much to digest. I need more time to go back to it. So Far So Good - The Chainsmokers I remember liking it on first listen, but I don't think I ever listened to it again. 😬 Not for me:
Midnights - Taylor Swift I've tried listening to this multiple times, and Lavender Haze is really the only song I come back to, and maybe Snow on the Beach... rarely. The Loneliest Time - Carly Rae Jepsen I keep hearing how good Carly is from other pop stans, and every time I go to listen to her, I can never get into her music. It's too bubbly, feminine, & bubblegum for me. Albums I have not listened to that I'd still like to listen to
Ivory - Omar Apollo Motomami - Rosalia Un Verano Sin Ti - Bad Bunny Gemini Rights - Steve Lacy Harry's House - Harry Styles Traumazine - Megan Thee Stallion Hold on Baby - King Princess emails i can't send - Sabrina Carpenter Ramona Park Broke My Heart - Vince Staples i used to think i could fly - Tate McRae
What are your thoughts on the albums released this year? Was it a good year in music for you?

Please I want Crazy For You on this album so bad… I need I Can Fly, Yayo, Old Money, and the My Dark City snippet vibes

okay but imagine how hilarious it would be if this was mainly a jazz album and she does scat-vocals  it would just be too much for us...

I'm getting Ultraviolence in colour vibes, actually. With a touch of Honeymoon as well.

The orchids pic is very David Lynch-esque: nightmarish, yet alluring. The mountain laurels pic has this sort of vintage/technicolor/grainy/American suburbia feel. I have to say that I didn't expect colourful flowers, LMAO, given what she said about the lack of colours (lyrically, I suppose), but it's an interesting contrast. This is going to very lush and dreamy, I think. Orchestral music with Drew Erickson + Jon Batiste's jazz work + Father John Misty = this will be her jazzy masterpiece.

still crying at the fact she’s about to release her 4th album (if we count Violets) this decade and it barely started 3 years ago
