I'm waiting for the late night TV ad where they've pooled their weekly allowances and hired Sally Struthers to come out and hit us with a "For just 2$ a week, you can help feed this elusive underfunded artist, who is being held captive by an awfully oppressive record label. Every night, they bring her to an underground room, where she's forced to witness the masters she recorded that day thrown into a wrestling cage with 18 screaming macaques. When they're done ripping the tapes and shattering the hard drives, she's made to sweep up the pieces. If she does it quickly, her manager lets her have 18 minutes of screen time on her phone. She uses it to cryptically tweet old photos, hoping it will drum up enough noise to appease label execs. When she's done, she sleeps on a concrete slab. A small bottle of Jimmy Choo "Illicit" sits next to the air vent, reminding her of a branding partnership from a different time. While she sleeps, a goblin bleaches her roots."

....I don't know where this creative writing exercise came from but I hope I took you all to a place.

Not @'ing you at all but rather commenting on this line - I honestly hate that aspect of fandom/standom so much. Work cannot exist on it's own, it's GOT to be compared to other artists, and there HAS to be a "this is better" argument. Someone always HAS to *win*. Newsflash to annoying stans - the presence of another artist's work doesn't devalue your fave.
 
I understand that we exist in an "attention economy" now, where everyone and everything attached to media consumption is vying for your attention and deliberately trying to starve out anything else so that you only focus on one thing, but...we don't have to buy into that??? So willingly??? This is art. it means different things at different times of the day, at different times of the week, of the year, of the decade, of our lives. It's going to come in and go out with the tides.

Tons of absolutely garbage music hits the top of the charts - quantity of streams/album sales isn't indicative of quality (correlation/causation), tons of absolutely amazing music never sees the light of day, and vice versa on it all. I always look at people who are going hard on "This record is better because...." and start stan wars - I'm just like "are you trying to convince me, or are you trying to convince yourself here?"
 
Superstans who make an artists' success a part of their personality and rank their own position in life relative to others by how well their fave is doing is just....so weird to me.

Tonia needs to chill. Where the fuck was she when her child cut school and was alone in a room full of execs signing shit at 15? Her daughter is in the predicament she's in because her mother wasn't on top of her. She wasn't there to see what her daughter was signing nor did she drag her back to school. 
 
She's screaming from the top of her lungs and going crazy on social media because she failed her own daughter. Her conscious must be bothering her now. 
 
She's not helping Sky with her outbursts the same way those crazy Free Sky idiots aren't helping either.
