is the bbc stream only audio? I'm trying to access it but the episode is unavailable even with a VPN, I don't know how to work that website guess I'll just wait for Rob lmao -
It's kinda funny to me that she's throwing Southern Gothic around now, instead of back when Ocean Blvd came out. The themes of religion, decadence, generational trauma and abuse were so present in that album, and she even took inspiration from a movie that was based on a Tennessee Wiliiams play for the cover. Even though her experiences didn't necessarily happen in the South, she managed to transpose the themes to fit her life, so Ocean Blvd is probably her most Southern Gothic album. I hope I'm articulating this correctly lol So yeah, I'm curious to see (and hear) what she means. But if I wanted to make a bet, I would say SG is the aesthetic, and maybe Southern music in general is the genre she took inspiration from. We know that the writing is less autobiographical, though she could still talk about heavy themes, but it looks like the album will be lighter and easier to listen to, so yeah. I'm curious.

I was thinking the same thing, her most ~southern gothic~ moments are the unreleased Tropico songs. Alabama in the Springtime is heavenlyyyyy

She said southern gothic production idk what that means. As long as the aesthetic isn't gloomy and the lyrics aren't too heavy (which we know they aren't) it's fine by me, I'd really rather have a hillbilly country album with banjos and shit than something too gothic or religious

One thing that we know is that Lana usually hints the themes of the next album on the last song(s) of the previous one. So I've been looking for evidence, and here's what I have so far. Get Free - commiting to heal, and to make music reflecting that - into NFR --> Hope - admitting that she's not happy yet but she's trying, very poetic song, minimalist production, reflecting about the past - into COCC --> Dance till we die (not considering the actual closing track bc Lana didn't write it) - talking about how she's reflecting on fame and that she prefers to live a simple life, mentions a daughter - into Blue Banisters --> Sweet Carolina a song dedicated to her sister, with involvement from her family, a reflection on maternity and motherhood - into Ocean Blvd --> an album which dealt with very heavy themes that we all know. Then the album ends with Taco Truck let's see what that'll mean for the themes of her next album
