Just listened to “The Grants” not sober and okay maybe I see why grant truthers feel like that. The progression of the verses have the darkness of A&W yet the chorus etc (idk what they’re called)  are more uplifting and I think this is truly a better opener than I originally thought. We need to just let Ultraviolence 2.0 rest because she’s coming with (perhaps) her magnum opus. Listening to lyrics, I (ofc) googled and the lyrics surrounding the thought of her death and the memories she hopes to bring to her deathbed I think that it’s truly a beautiful song. Maybe I don’t like the intro as much, because Ms Thunder girlies haven’t grown on me but I’ve listened to the song enough to appreciate it now 
Ik I’m late but when I listened at first I didn’t like it, but gave it a second chance 

The way if she dropped every single fully formed song she’s ever made that was never released as like a fucking 200+ track mega compilation she would literally chart #1 for over a year

While I agree that obviously your partner does influence who you are to an extent, I wouldn't discredit the natural progression of her artistry and songwriting as solely being tied to her partner. 

The real MVP is Jack Donoghue let’s be real Lana absorbs the personality of every boyfriend she has. If she was still with Clay we would be listening to the LDRXNikki Lane album right now.

People are entitled not to like this song or this sound for Lana. 
 
I personally find the song to be beautiful as it is, love the production, love the use of the different instruments, the sound effects and the intro. 
 
But acting like it's her best opener? It's giving recency bias. Ask again in three to six months and you'll have a different feedback in the post-release and "Unpopular Lana opinions" threads.

My only complaint about The Grants is that I prefer the melody of the last part of the chorus from the intro which is slightly different (which makes total sense since those were the backing vocals/harmonies).
 
It's a really pretty and straightforward song and it rolls soooo good into the title track so it's a perfect intro for me  but I get why some people are not that excited about it, specially as a stand alone track
