Hope Happiness and Bartender just fall flat to me. There’s so much that could’ve been done with the production. There’s nothing “weird” about them at all like she described imo, they should define NFR but to me they just kinda fade into the rest of the project.

completely agree. imo hope and HIAB have a different sound than the rest of nfr. it's like a surfy ballad album but those two songs have a more raw, piano ballad sound if that makes sense

legitimately most of her recent songs. majority of them are fantastic but they don’t feel clean to me, they feel muffled or messy in terms of production/structure. i just feel like they need to be refined by a lot.

i agree that, for the most part, her songs are the way they are meant to be, but i feel like there's a few exceptions... or, well, maybe more than a few

i feel like the final version of lolita should've just been the 4th demo, it's the perfect mix between the first demo and the album version, keeping the bass guitar and the james bond feel of the first demo, and including the strings of the final version, or, alternatively, it could've been more sly and subdued, like the second demo, which is the version i like the most

i do not like the paradise version of yayo, i just find it to be so much inferior to the original version on AKA, which is my #1 favorite lana del rey song, i would've just preferred she never re-recorded it, but if i had to change anything about it to improve it, i would change the vocal delivery, and get rid of all of that extra, unnecessary reverb

i would change the sound and execution of the other woman, the only song off of ultraviolence i don't like, i just... don't like it, but i can most certainly hear the potential, and it's a song that's very her

i would just get rid of don't let me be misunderstood, i feel like swan song would've been a great closer, although i do like the ending-credits feel that don't let me be misunderstood as a closer has, i haven't listened to it very much, but when i have, i feel bothered by the production, maybe the amount of reverb

summer bummer should have more of a hard, raw beat like the so good demo has

i agree that coachella - woodstock in my mood would've been better with a more stripped-back, vulnerable production, like with mostly piano, but i still like it for what it is

beautiful people, beautiful problems should've retained the stripped-back, raw sound of the first demo, it doesn't have to be as depressing as the original demo, but i sort of don't like the new lyrics in the final version, and... i would not include stevie nicks, nothing against her AT ALL, but i don't think she works on that song

change should've had better production, recording and including a song on an album you recorded like a week before the release of said album just isn't really a good idea

    TNBAR shouldn't have been changed

if you lie down with me probably should've just retained whatever sound it had during the ultraviolence era, depending on how complete it was... i didn't like it when blue banisters first came out, and i listened to it the other day, and... it's worse than i thought it was...

    beautiful should've just been scrapped

wildflower wildfire should've used a real piano instead of the MIDI piano

thunder, nectar of the gods, living legend, and cherry blossom all needed to be COMPLETELY re-recorded and re-worked

judah smith interlude should've been replaced with zodiac

    kintsugi should've been less muffled

grandfather... needed a complete lyrical re-work, also, it just doesn't honestly feel like a lana del rey song

    [Lana Del Rey]
You've already won me over, but I'll never confess
'Cause it's just much more fun to mess with your head
You've already won me over, and I'll love you to death
But I'm gonna keep lyin' while I'm in your bed

    [G-Eazy]
You think you got me, but the problem is
I'm already hip, I see the play, I just been watchin' this
Ha, I see the way you call me every day, it's obvious
Plus it's 2am, you know what time it is
You just wanna have me come and chase your bullshit confidence
Shower you with flowers, daily compliments
    Could do that
Be careful if you fall in love, then it's gon' be a consequence
We keep going, there's no turnin' back, it ain't no stopping us
Had you at "I'm Gerald, what's your name?"
Burnin' in a flame, a little flame you turn into a game
& since we started fuckin', it's never been the same
The idea of stoppin' now can't even entertain
You drivin' me insane, the craziest I met
Drinkin' champagne, we started fuckin' on a jet
I took you to the Malahide and we start to sweat
I got you in the back, but you still playin' hard to get

    [Lana Del Rey & G-Eazy]
You've already won me over (yeah, ay you drippin' wet) but I'll never confess (nah, man)
'Cause it's just much more fun to (is that right?) mess with your head (uh)
You've already won me over (I know) and I'll love you to death
But I'm gonna keep lyin' (yeah) while I'm in your bed (uh)

    [G-Eazy]
Yeah, won you over, this is lightwork
Know that I been drinkin', so come over in a tight skirt
If we took a chance, I'm thinkin' maybe this could might work
You're sleepin' over almost every night, wake up in my shirt
Oh fuck the heavy shit, we livin' in this moment
When I beat it up, I treat the pussy like I own it
Six missed calls, but ain't trippin', where ya phone went?
& thinking 'bout that now, nothing matters, got you so wet
Light a couple candles in the room and pop some Moët
Every single night I'm tryna go, but we ain't go yet
Finish as she clenches like she ain't tryna go yet
Yeah, I mean you crazy and you know that
You crazier than me, keep on playin' mind games
I ain't got time for that shit, it give me migraines
Only the realness is what's runnin' through my veins
& every time I'm in that, she always screamin' my name

i can see why she didn't release this, only because of how people treat lana, they would think she's "romanticizing the killings" lmao. but it's very interesting that she wrote about this, and i think it deserved better than getting scrapped.

I don’t know why this is hitting me so hard. I mean, obviously the subject matter is EXTREMELY dark — but something about it is just really impacting me

It’s so beautifully written and the different vocal styles throughout the track make it seem so fresh and interesting. Idk if it’s just me, but at certain points it somehow reminds me sonically of Thunder?! I need to relisten to find the exact points

But, wow. It’s just beautiful. The tribute to the women at the end is heartbreaking. “The prostitute pickup / and the pantyhose thriller” is sticking with me. I can’t get enough of this song

As much as I would’ve loved it to have been released, I can’t imagine the moronic backlash she would have faced for “glamorising” abuse/prostitution/murder, even though nothing in this song glamourises any of that. Also, unpopular opinion but… I don’t think it would have fit on OB in the sense of the storyline. Yes it’s thematically similar in that it deals with death, legacies, abuse, general darkness etc, and it definitely would have fit sonically and lyrically, BUT..

it’s not solely autobiographical in the way that the rest of the album is, and I’m not sure how it would have fit into the overarching ‘storyline’. But I obviously wish it had been included, because it’s amazing. Not at the expense of Candy Necklace though. But they’d have been a nice A & B side release

Wow that was unnecessarily long.. but I just love Zodiac. (Which is a much better name than Purify imo, it’s less in your face and self explanatory)

And I agree with everyone else about Lana most likely feeling some sort of personal connection. So many people clowned on her for the response to the Candy Necklace video backlash, when she said she could’ve ended up in a similar position, but anyone smart knows what she meant. Considering the GK was active whilst she was living in nyc, a young woman in a somewhat transient and chaotic/unstable lifestyle.. I get what she means.

I immediately got Get Free vibes from Zodiac. Sucks when she keeps these career-defining songs in the vault (I Talk to Jesus is another song that comes to mind for me).
