I know people around here act as if it was super cewl n edgy and a sign of advanced artistry, but that's just what happens if you don't do nothing beyond the album itself.
Most indie artists with a much smaller target-audience put more effort into their promotion, and it's not like music videos, performancea and photoshoots are just marketing - it's also a way to artistically express urself.
Lana herself used to absolutely rule this aspect of visual artistry, no matter if it was about big budget stuff like Blue Jeans or her homemade videos during ger Lizzie-era.
Now most she does in this department seems uninspired and halfassed. Noone but fans who force themselves to like it care for content like the BB-mv, that NFR/B/HIAB thing or the LMLYLAW performance.
I'm not saying she should force herself to do something she doesn't want to, but it's not suprising that the attention for her output sinks when she obviously doesn't care.
And that decay of visual quality is not "niche". Lana just does not care about it anymore. It's fine, but let's not overglamourize it. A lot of small "niche" artists who really want to create something beautiful to accompany their music manage to do with a much lower budget. Because they actually burn for it. Lana is past that point, and with both herself and her fanbase taking her way too serious, she now does things like the BB-video or the CoCC-cover.

Okay after listening to this album at least 20 times, i can firmly say that this is clearly not her strongest album. The songs are amazing and it’s cohesive but i think the issue is the tracklist. i think cherry blossom should’ve been somewhere else in the tracklist because it’s honestly not easy to listen to after living legend. living legend is pretty slow and i’d expect something else coming after it but it’s another song that starts with piano and it’s in the same key, which just isnt my favorite. it’s in no way on ultraviolence tier. chemtrails on the other hand was amazing, almost perfect minus the collabs, which i will forever erase off my library. chemtrails was a cultural reset but blue banisters couldn’t possibly live up to its legacy.

Arcadia still amazes me and it being Lana's favorite track makes so much sense since it is poetry at its finest as the metaphors are very subjective but not hard to interpret and get, plus the outro's a persevering & sweet "fuck you" and a display of confidence in reference to carry on. It's a comforting tune <3

I posted about in the Text Book thread, but I'm too floored by it for it to go unnoticed lol.
Text Book is actually far more layered than I initially realized. There is the obvious distinction between herself and Sean in terms of where they may stand on certain sociopolitical and/or human rights issues that is used as a backdrop for the dissolution of their relationship – but I am realizing that there are nods to the karmic family lineage that she keeps referring to peppered throughout the song. I think there is a level of genealogical ill situated in a historical and racial context that underlies this song, too (think about the track’s declaration to “rewrite history”, nods to the Black Lives Matter movement, and references to "Ol' Man River").
It is brilliant how she manages to create a lyrical and thematic interplay between the end of a committed relationship, reparations of historical family karma, public infamy, and strained parental relations. This is one of her best – if not the best – written songs. I think it is absolutely one of my top 5 favourites from her ever.

Agreed. It’s no coincidence that every time she collaborated with someone new, she created some of her best work.
What makes BTD and UV so good and so special was that by the time they got to the production, the songs were already somewhat finished and they could focus on sewing them together to the cohesive, yet individually distinguishable masterpieces they were. She said herself that Dan A. reignited the flame inside of her. Before UV she was already somewhat burnt out after non-stop recording music for 3-4 years straight.
I personally believe that right now would be the perfect time to release some actual unreleased songs mixtapes. Her unreleased catalogue is going viral and we know some of her favourite tracks are in there. She wouldn’t even need to try to fit them into a new album which always feels somewhat inauthentic and out of place.

In regards to the polarized reactions to Blue Banisters that echo the mixed initial reviews of Ultraviolence and Honeymoon, maybe she was onto something here
