I got bored waiting for more talented people to make a Summertime Sadness picture vinyl so I cooked up my own (warning: the picture is pretty LQ) and made an Ultraviolence while I was at it:

Don't forget 2 things- shortly the industry is shifting to a universal Friday release date and the billboard charts will also change the days the first weeks charts cover

Also- artists now are dropping surprises, and one has to take into account, like movies do, that release dates are important in securing a #1 album. So the album may be surprise released without much advance or any advance

As they say, Sam Smith who basically copied Lana, made a huge mistake releasing his debut the same day as Lana and only debuted at #2.
Sam did not reached #1 in the US.
And Billboard was predicting Sam would get to #1after the Grammy's, and guess what? Drake surprised and Sam will have to be happy with a #2

BTW-didn't it irritate some here that Lana did SNL, and she was crucified for just standing by piano and singing
Sam does SNL, basically imitates Lana standing at the piano, holding the microphone stand and he is loved? The disconnect is amazing.

She's definitely got what sounds to me like a New Yawk accent (whether real or put on) on a number of UV tracks, but I've personally never really thought of her sounding "Southern" on AKA, more vaguely rural American.

I'm pretty sure I've seen references to Grant family vacations in Florida. I think she mentioned in an interview that her dad bought a trailer down there and I think Rob has tweeted pics while on vacation in Florida. I've also seen old social media posts of hers about visiting friends in Miami and going to a Heat game.

I'm from a northern state in the Midwest and I done known lots of people who talk like that who done never lived in the South.

I'm unsure if this has anything to do with this, but I find it curious that she uses a (bad) Southern accent on AKA. It's most prominent in Mermaid Motel (because ah am) and, infamously, OSCYS (and ah weeyill). Listen to any of her interviews and you'll be able to tell that this is not her native accent (neither is the exaggerated New York accent she uses on UV, but that's a different topic). If her time in Alabama coincided with her recording AKA, it could explain why she puts on this fake accent - she's feeling inspired by the people around her, who possibly had Southern accents (the Iggy Azalea defense? ) It also explains why it hasn't shown up since then - nothing from Born To Die on has had that fake Southern accent.

The odd thing is not all of AKA has this accent. Yayo doesn't really have it. Smarty doesn't. Brite Lites does (ah'm goin' back to Arbor Dean, where when I was a beauty queen). Kill Kill does in the 2nd verse (do ah know rye is going to meet you). Inexplicably, Raise me Up (Mississippi South) does not have this accent. Why? And why did she feel she had to put use an accent other than her native one for her debut album? I do think it's got to have something to do with her time in the South.

She also talks about Florida a lot - Aviation (Pensacola), Florida Kilos (title and "we could get high in Miami"), Florida Dark (Kill Kill), Axl Rose Husband (you look like a Florida native), Delicious (South Beach). That makes 3 Southern states she's mentioned: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi. And she says she got the name "Lana Del Rey" when hanging out with Cuban friends in Miami. Do I believe her? Who knows.

She also experiments with non-standard English in Sirens, with My Momma: my momma, she would say you was a hoodlum but I done known a hoodlum, you don't pass the test. She's still singing with her native accent, but she's clearly trying something out since she does not speak like this in her interviews or at concerts. "You was" is pretty run-of-the-mill in non-standard English varieties, but "done known" narrows it down to Southern American English.

OK after a few more days and some new bad talk from Kim, I am now convinced-
Kim herself is the protagonist in the song "Old Money" but in her case, Kim is looking back at a time she remembers when she had it all, she thought, but it all went bad. Kim had success on a cult level, her band one of the most critically acclaimed in history.
And she had a happy family life.
Now, she is moaning that she would run run run if it came calling again, and in Lana, Kim sees herself and is jealous that Lana now has it all, and Kim lost it by becoming bitter and not moving forward.

If Kim were AUTHENTIC in her thoughts, she would mentor Lana to be what ever it is she claims is "inauthentic". And show her the ropes...could it be that Kim and kim's humor meant Kim and Sonic Youth were just pulling one over on everybody?

    Ask yourself-
why is she bullying Lana, yet never mentions any of the 30 other talented female out there that are all the same in the last 30 years- from Mariah to Celine to Whitney to all of those that sound the same and one can't recall who sings what.
Yes all of those singers are talented, but none are unique. They are each other, all pining to be the next the last was, up to and including today's Miley, today's Rihanna, Beyoncé, etc.
Why do people never question the "authenticity" of any other female singer, NOR at any time any male singer or band? Sheesh, it seems the term was invented specifically by the haters of Lana and just a bullying word.
Lana is unique. Kim was unique.  The thing too is, Lana though not trying for hits, has had more hits than Sonic Youth did.
It seems Kim though feels no one loves her now that she is not "young and beautiful".
I guarantee people will love Lana when Lana is 61. And Lana won't need a book to get publicity off of, as Lana will still be producing movies, music, tv,  and whatever is in 30-35 years the current media like a Paul McCartney or Brian Wilson or Aretha Franklin
who don't look back, but keep moving forward.

Invite Kim to a concert and do a duet.

My reply to a question in another thread got me thinking about "Aviation" and the whole Alabama mystery again. In "Aviation", she mentions Pensacola and flying "fighter jets all over the nation", clearly a reference to the Naval Air Station there. But what hadn't occurred to me before is how close Pensacola, FL is to the Alabama state line, within commuting distance. If it weren't for the fact that she said she's lived in Birmingham, AL, which is farther away, in an interview and on one of her MySpace accounts (though on another that may or may not be legit she listed Dauphine Island, which is closer), I'd speculate that "Aviation" is possibly written from the perspective of someone a few years ahead of her in her degree program at Fordham who decided to become a military pilot after graduation, perhaps a boyfriend she followed down there. (I see @@PrettyBaby beat me to the punch on this theory.) Her comments in her Fader interview would align with this:

Whatever the story may be on this guy, I wonder if he ever said her pussy tastes like Pensacola.

Other possibilities, fitting with @@Monicker's non-literal "state of mind" theory, are that it was fantasy based off the True Romance character Alabama Whitman, that clearly influenced her, especially during her Lizzy Grant days (@@TrailerParkDarling beat me to the punch on that one, RIP), or the name of a subway station she used to go to.

Was bored and decided to try and make a few alternatives for this more suited to my tastes, so here's another back cover if anybody's interested. The text looks slightly off-center because of the numbering, not much I' can do to correct that and keep it looking relatively clean. Anyways ~

Its actually pretty cheap if you are making several. I bought a pack of 10 cases for like $5, the printing was roughly $5, having them cut the booklet was an annoying $4 but tbh its worth having the professional look. I tried cutting one out on my own and it went pretty bad. I haven't made the CD or label for it yet, but I can't imagine it would be too terribly much. It could be lame to have to buy several cases or CDs at once when you only need one, but in my case I needed to replace some cases for other CDs and I am planning on making a few more LDR ones so it didn't bother me.

I'm going to write out a detailed guide for how to make one but I just have been so busy this week since I made mine. But I can help you and anyone else who needs it and talk you through the process if you want.

And nope, I had it printed at two different places (my university print shop and a professional store) and no one even looked twice or asked. As long as you aren't making 20 (i.e. look like you are making them to sell) I doubt anyone would care, if even then.
