I don't think Lana is a weak !!! quite au contraire!!!  she likes to be submissive because for a moment she can let go, instead of always be in charge of everything (like she is) she admires strenght ... She longs to be desired ardently because it makes you powerful, the thought of a man that can do crazy things for you is beautiful and empowering... She wants to find a man, a strong man that can keep up with her and '' tame her''

@@letsescapelizzy   okay... I have a friend that was sexually abused as 12 year old. the monster that did this to her was someone she knew ( a close family friend), all her family knew and her mother was the only one that secretly blamed her for it  ... now she's 17 and what can I say she's been through a lot, she's suicidal and bulimic and got pregnant twice , she's attracted to the wrong dudes and so on.. and she reminds me of Lana in some weird way that I cannot pin point lol. So of course I can't prove anything because OBVIOUSLY I don't know her , BUT  she did say that most of her songs are autobioographical excetera ... but that's not enough right? because lyrics arent reliable and on some extent I have to agree with you, so you ask me where did I get this Idea from? Well first of all I found extremely sad and unusual for a 14 yo to be an alcoholic, I mean.. Apparently she comes  from a wealthy and respectable family right? So what on earth made her drink daily and why she was sent to a boarding school? what she was trying to escape  from? so I began to think the causes of so much upheaval .. She has a wonderful relationship with her dad so he has nothing to do with her problems, she's really close to her brother and sister so they too have nothing to do with anything traumatic.. but then I noticed that she never mentions her mother, so something must be off. My personal theory is that something profoundly disturbing happened to her ( it could be sexual abuse or not) and she was left with long lasting scars, she began to act erratically and her mother decided to send her somewhere else instead of dealing with her, and from that point the hostility began...  I mean really guys? we all argue with our parents, and we all have problems but would that transform us in alcolholics? AT FOURTEEN FUCKING YEARS OLD?? that's not ordinary ... and apart from that all her life is shady and purposefully concealed...  her university years are foggy and there are rumors of her being in Alabama after graduating high school.... and we all know she comes from a family with cash, so why did she lived in a trailer park for  18 months????? So that's  what produced this thread...

@@Rayse I didn't think she was sexually abused by her mother, I think that she was abused by some family friend or something of that kind, a male figure and that maybe she developed some unhealthy attachment to this man.  And I think her mother is very cold to her and never liked her. Her father is the holding glue that keeps her family from falling apart. So I'm guessing that from this unstable family environment she kinda went crazy, ( alcohol abuse, living in trailer parks, realtionships with shady, old and charismatic men)

And that her mother instead of supporting her, blames her for all her problems, like '' you went looking for it''

  15. HawaiianTropic liked a post in a topic by labionda in How Do You Relate To Lana ...
When she first emerged in the international music scene back in 2011 I didn't pay much attention to her.. In fact I found her boring and her music bizzare....  But in 2013 something was begginning to change that was when Tropico was released . I began to be interested in her and started to listen to her songs and follow her on social media, but still it was nothing intense. but  all that changed in the summer of 2014 , the first song of Lana that got me hooked was Shades Of Cool, and from then it was no looking back. I began to worship her and became let's say....obsessed it's the right word  . And now I'm going to explain why in detail
1 Her voice and her musical style.... It's profoundly original and so different from all the music that's around these days. from the lyrics to the instrumental part, and last but not least her voice.. Mesmerizing, sultry, deep and sensual
2 Her beauty she's so beautiful .. but something that striked me was her eyes. I was flipping the pages of a cosmopolitan magazine and there was this HM ad that she was campainging for. Her eyes were apart from beautiful, profoundly sad and melancholic, like greta garbos. I always liked this kind of tragic beauty. And I wondered what has she been through, and that she must be a strong woman.
3 Her personality. From what she says on interviews , from her music and for her overall demeanor she comes off like a loner, an introvert, a woman that's not scared of what people think of her and doesn't care of what society expects from her ,she lives by her own rules.
So I relate with her deeply because I'm a lot like her. I was always fascinated by the hollywood culture ( particularly from the 40ies to the 60ies), and there was a period in my early teens when I was obsessed with Marylin Monroe. I love Kurt Cobain and all the culture that he created, I listen to a lot of rock music . I relate with her need for strong men that make you feel desired , and I'm not afraid of a little roughness here and there. I'm a very passionate person and by no mean ''light'' , prone to depression and daydreaming, and use recreational drugs from time to time. Also when I listen to her songs I imagine myself in an L.A of the fifties  , where I'm in madly in love with a  violent but handsome police officer, a turbulent relationship where we love each other  but there is some violence involved, pretty much like a James Ellroy novel. I'm all for intense and dark things , at the edge of society approved behaviors.I also like whitman and nabokov...  so in conclusion I relate to her because she reminds me of parts of myself and she has the same values that I have. Her music is dark but seductive and ADDICTIVE, she's a creative genius and she'll be an Icon of the american culture. Oh and I forgot to mention that she can be extremely sexy without baring an in inch of her lovely pale skin, unlike the various Katy perrys, beyoncè,lady gaga or rihannas. And I bet she has an awful relationship with her mom... As I do

    in my opinion:
I think Born To Die was her losing what she thought to be her "soulmate/true love" and her struggling to move on/find a light at the end of the tunnel. (Dark Paradise, Without You, Summertime Sadness)

Ultraviolence is a mix of her finding a new love (although not as intense as the one she experienced on BTD) and then losing that love too, but this time she doesn't seem to dwell on it as much as she did on BTD. (Brooklyn Baby, Cruel World, Black Beauty, Is This Happiness, Flipside)

Then I see Honeymoon as her experiencing a different kind of love where she's just obsessed with and fascinated by this person/interested in just having fun with them rather than actually being in love with them. (Religion, Freak, MTWBT)

It's a nice development really bc with each album she becomes more in control of her affections and less vulnerable to heartbreak

I think this is her very essence: equal parts art and science. I think LDR as a persona/identity is meant to be someone who lives poetically, driven only by emotion and whims, makes her 'life an art', etc.

But the reality is she would not be where she is if she were just a wide-eyed innocent, dreaming about life from her window sill all day, or being led around by boys. Lizzy Grant is the shadow master and commander of the LDR concept; she dreams big but she is also a doer, the ruler of her own destiny. (Her critics who think she has no agency need to wake up —  who in pop music right now has more control of their own vision than her ?)   She is very calculating, knowing, and aware of how to give form to her dreams. It surely all starts with intuition and artistic intention and emotion, but then Science Lizzy kicks in — the one who researches, studies, analyzes, experiments w/ a hypothesis, puts in art in action. A good creative director is always equally artistic and scientific, and Lizzy herself has hinted at this in interviews.

I also think someone like this is naturally driven to explore esoteric and marginalized philosophy/psychology/cultural topics; I'm sure she's even aware of Crowley, Theosophy, and the like. Not sure if I buy she was in 'a cult', but the chronology specifics don't matter so much, the essence of how it shaped her does. What's exciting is that she can bring these super niche topics into the warmth of the spotlight, even if she has to paint broad strokes to do so. I honestly can't think of someone else so widely known and loved that is able to pull this off in the 21st century. Maybe Grimes, but with her, it's literally the Wiki-meets-Tumblr remix version of everything. Young artists everywhere should be inspired that women like Lizzy are finding ways to make the outre and strange palatable.
